I have a Kubota L2900 that needs a new negative battery cable. I can’t get to where the old cable attaches to the engine block because of sever rust and corrosion. I was wondering if it is OK to attach the new grounding cable to someplace else on the engine block. Is there anything I need to be aware of?
Thanks,
Sophie

Yes, you can do that as an alternate means of grounding the negative cable. Just be sure to use a bolt of equal size or larger if it will work/fit as well as the cable is long enough to accomodate the new location, and be sure to thoroughly clean up the area where the new ground/negative cable will be fastened down to the engine block/frame. A very clean and solid metal to metal connection is essential for BOTH the new cable end and where it fastens up to the block/frame. Be sure and check the routing of the new cable to ensure that it is not likely to rub against anything and will not come entangled in any workings of the tractor or engine. I would suggest using the OEM routing if possible and any OEM clamps or otherwise use your own or perhaps some zip ties to secure it. After you have tightened everything up, I would suggest painting the area around where the new cable is fastened to prevent any further corrosion or apply a good quality corrosion prevention spray. ....

Yes you can connect it to another place on the block. Make sure you clean the contact area well.
Make sure you unhook the ground cable first and connect it last when working with the battery. ....

If you use a new bolt into the block be sure it is not too long. You wouldn't want to crack into a water passage. ....
