1980 Shibaura SD1643 3cyl diesel
Can anybody give me some advise for injectors on my shibaura Can they be rebuilt or removed and cleaned ? It smokes a bit and i'm thinking the injectors may not be spraying the way they should. May be getting to much fuel or something...
Or do I just try to find new ones ? It has 1300 hours on original injectors. It only smokes at lower idle and once I turn it up to 1200 rpms it clears out then no more smoking.
Its been doing this for quit awhile now.....but I would like to get it repaired. I did run some Seafoam through oil and fuel but not alot of change. Any suggestion ..Thx Mike

Mike,
After reading through the manual on my old Kubota, I discovered that a valve adjustment should be performed at 1000 hours. This is done by adjusting the rocker arms to provide the proper clearance.
You may find that you'll need to perform this rather simple procedure.
I no longer own my old Kubota. It now belongs to my neighbor. We adjusted the valves on it last summer. The engine now runs with quite a bit more power and with far less smoke.
This project will cost you nothing more than a new valve cover gasket. It's worth doing, but you'll need a shop manual, unless you know a diesel mechanic who knows the valve specs on your engine.
Hope this helps.

Hi I agree with Candoarms that an overhead service is a good first step. If that reduces the amount of smoke great, but if it still smokes I wound not pull the injectors not quite yet. You stated that it cleans up at 1200rpm and if the power is good with no miss I would continue to add some commercial injector cleaner or dump a couple of quarts of Type "F" auto trans fluid in the fuel tank. Run it for a couple of tanks and see if that does not help. Remember keep your RPM where it should be, don't lug the motor it builds up carbon. Good luck ....

Mike,
I found a video on Youtube of a man adjusting the valve clearances on a John Deere 4-cyl diesel. While the specs will not apply to your engine, the process of adjusting the valves is explained, and you can get a good taste of the procedure.
With a little searching, you might be able to find a video explaining how to go about this on a 3-cylinder engine.....but it's really pretty much the same on any engine.

Hope this helps.

Injectors can be rebuilt. Have the pressure & spray pattern checked first. Sometimes the solution will clean them if they are dirty. ....
