I have a 1983 Wheelhorse C125 12 hp Garden Tractor I have owned since new.

I have been pondering buying a compact tractor, but I guess I am just too frugal to part with so much money. My wife says just go out and get one.

Well even if i do get a compact, I would still like toi fix this one so I can sell it and the snowblower, front blade, and garden cultivation kit i have with it.

So back to my problem, tractor started to sound like it was running out of gas, and finally stalled and won't start.

It has oil, it has gas in the tank, not sure if anything could be wrong with the gas feed I don't think there is a filter (maybe I should drain the gas tank), and it will crank.

I am going to pull the plug to see if it is getting spark.

Any ideas on this problem or where to look next

I have a Wheel Horse garden tractor that did the same thing a few years back.
My Wheel horse has a Kohler engine, there is a fuel pump mounted on the front of the motor that went bad.
I installed a rebuild kit for $14 and its worked fine ever since.
A new pump was $45, but a rebuilt kit was only $14 and very easy to install. ....

I have since driven down with my truck and tools and pulled the spark plug, grounding it to the head. I do not see a spark when I crank it so I think I will replace the plug, coil, condenser and points.

They are all the original so they are overdue. Now does anyone know what the setting for the points is, and how it is set relative to timing? Or maybe I should punt on the points, I used to do it on cars with my timing light, or an MGB with the flywheel index. How is it done on a one clylinder kohler? ....

Well I filed the points and it started right up.

I was feeling all the glow of success, hmmm then I mowed the grass for about an hour, and then it started stalling again.

Do coils and condensers fail under heat?? ....

I know for a fact that coils can fail when they get hot. Condensers probably can as well. ....
