 L2050 Clutch Problem

Hello, I have just purchased a used L2050. It seemed to be working fine when i bought it. However, Before I could even use it, I went out to back it off the trailer and the clutch totally was not working. It worked fine before. I was wondering if there were other things I could check for before i take it in to the local dealership to see if the clutch has just gone out. Are there any fluid levels or hydraulics that could be causing this problem. When I push in the clutch nothing happens and trying to put in gear just grinds gears. I can get it in gear but as I said the clutch just seems not to be working at all.

 L2050 Clutch Problem

DC, start with the basics, it will likely prove to be something VERY minor.

Check all the linkage first.

It doesn't make sense that it would happen the way you describe, something went south in transit.

Best of luck.

 L2050 Clutch Problem

How much free play does the clutch have and has it ever had a clutch installed?

Check the linkages but the clutch disk could be frozen to the flywheel. How long was the tractor sitting on the trailer? You can look through post as to how to free a frozen clutch. There are a few tricks.

 L2050 Clutch Problem

I HAVE CHECKED THE LINKAGE. THERE IS A LINKAGE THAT GOES TOWARDS THE FRONT OF THE TRACTOR. wHEN I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH IT APPEARS TO WORK FINE., THERE ALSO IS A LINKAGE THAT SEEMS TO BE MOUNTED FRON THE SAME PLACE AS THE FRONT LINKAGE BUT IT GOES TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE TRACTR. WHEN I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH IT DOES NOT SEEM TO OPERATE. iT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE LOOSE OR NOT CONNECTED IN ANY WAY. ITS WIERD THAT THIS HAPPENED. WHILE I WAS CLEANING THE TRACTOR UP IT WAS WORKING FINE BUT IT JUST SEEMED TO STOP WORKING. THANKS FOR ANY FURTHER INFO

 L2050 Clutch Problem

Some of us recently had great time diagnosing a pto that wouldn't disengage on another 'L' model Kubota. Turned out that it has a hydraulic pto engage and our ideas were about mechanical linkages. Our diagnosis was great otherwise. I don't know this tractor, but if it has a hydraulic clutch that might suggest trouble shooting ideas from people who do know these tractors. Hope your problem turns out as easy to fix.

 L2050 Clutch Problem

Thanks Art! Mechanical it is; so when operating the pedal there should be some free-paly at the top and then some pressure as the pressure plate is compressed. If the pedal has that feeling then the clutch probably is being operated. If not I'd look at where the linkage goes into the housing to see that something actually moves. For example, a broken pin on a shaft collar can look like it's moving but the shaft doesn't actually turn.

I'm guessing that it's a used tractor from a dealer and the dealer warranted it for 30 days. So unless it's a simple problem the dealer will fix it. If that's the case you just need some simple checks to go through.

I wonder how many hours the tractor has? Also if you were around when the tractor was loaded on the trailer (did it hang up or was the clutch slipped a lot) and whether if shifts when the engine is off? I guess it's off the trailer now. If it has 4wd I'd put it in 2wd and backup a bit. I can't think of much else in the way of simple checks other than to adjust the free play to spec. For a little bit of diagnostics, you might try adjusting all the free-play out and then some. If it shifts then, it'd probably be a warped clutch, but that would be something that should be repaired. A tractor should not be operated like that. If the tractor has a removable splash pan it could be removed and the clutch inspected.
