 bx1500 v bx1800

I have 2 acres. need to level and cut.
Is the bx1500 w fel adequate w 54" deck.
Or is the 1800 worth $2,000 more to get a 60 " deck
I noticed the 1800 fel has 200lbs more lift.
Currently use a toro 48" zero turn.
will the 60" deck on the 1800 be close to time spent since the deck is 12" wider?

If by leveling you are talking dirt.... the 1800 would be better.

I used to pull a 5x5 chain harrow with my BX 22 to groom the driveway. Even when pulling low from the drawbar the drag from the chain harrow would pull the front end off the ground just enough to affect the steering. I had to put extra weight in the bucket to keep things leveled out.

I would imagine the same would occur pulling any sort of dirt mover. The extra weight, horsepower and longer wheelbase on the 1800 will be worth the money.

I have 2 acres of which about 3/4 of an acre is rolling lawn. I have a BX2230 and am really happy with it. I have a 4' box blade that I have been using to level some of the rougher spots and it performs well. I have a bunch of fir trees that I have been thinning and cleaning. The tractor works well in pulling fallen trees, and the FEL for hauling cut wood, dirt etc. Personally, I would not want anything smaller than what I have. At the same time it has done everything I have asked it to, so I don't think I would need anything bigger. I agree with DRanking that a BX 1800 is the least I would go and would encourage you to also consider a BX2230.

Good Luck!

Disclaimer: I too, own a BX2230.

I may be wrong here, but for mowing only, your zero turn will (literally) mow circles around a BX. For the additional work, however, you'll need the BX. For light FEL work and mowing there is nothing wrong with the 1500. I would encourage you to consider the 2230 over the 1800 for the reason I chose: simple economics. I paid only $600 more for the 23hp over the 18hp, not much of a decision there, in my opinion.

As a BX1500 owner I feel I must chime in. The 1500 will certainly do everything you described. The 1830/2230 do provide more HP but do not have any appreciable difference in weight. If you're planning a lot of FEL work, I'd go with the 2230. If just pulling a box blade, there won't be much difference between any BX. They will all run out of traction before HP. If you need add'l traction, step up to the B-series for the larger tires and wheelbase. In any case, test drive each of them WITH implements.

We've had only a few that were dissappointed in their choice of the 1500 and when they went up they bought the B not the BX which was recommended to them at the time of sale. The 1500 for the size of your yard would be fine and would not be overkill. There isn't a tractor built that would be able to keep up with a good zero turn mower.
