 John Deere 4310 electrical short

I am finding this site very confusing. where do I post a question, nothing to do with engine rebuild. 4310 turned key lights flashed heard a pop no power at all totally dead. sound seemed to come from starter area, but im thinking ignition. ignition fuse was blown that could have been the pop sound. I took out the blown 15 amp and put in a 10 that's all I had,no results whereto begin?

Not positive, but I believe there is a fusible link by the starter. It may look like a piece of melted wire.Hope this helps

Check the draw on your starter. 10 amps seems pretty low to kick the bendix so you may simply not be getting enough feed. The other common problem with open tractors is water in the switch assembly. They are easy to take apart (watch for the spring loaded bearings on the outer rim of the switch plate itself, -don't want to lose them.) I just bought a spare switch assembly and plug it in when necessary. They take about a day to dry inside in a warm area when they get wet without your having to take it apart. Another thing is trace all the wires from the starter back to the switch and check for wear. It only takes a couple of minutes and it could save you a whole lot of frustration from intermittently blown starter fuses later on.

Did you check the new fuse you put in? It might have blown as soon as you turned the key if you have a short. If fuse is blown again, you need to inspect wiring for any damage first. If no damage is found, then you need to start disconnecting things one at a time until you find the component that is bad. Try unhooking the alternator first and then the fuel shut off solenoid.

after reading good advice, started at battery.2007 replaced it. cable ends where cone shaped inside, replaced cable ends(battery clamps) lights come on,but keeps blowing ignition fuse .start cleaning ignition terminals, fuse box terminals, remove and clean fuses, unbelievable amounts of dirt and grime mixed with loads of grass. now when turning key I get a click but it does not blow the fuse, ithen clean the connection on the seat switch(the seat switch does not stop the tractor from starting,it only shuts the tractor down when pressure is reliesed while pto is engadged)now I turn the key and no click the starter trys to engadge and the lights dim, so I blast the new battery with 200 starting amps and it fires up thank you so much for the expert advice saved me at least $400.00 just for the dealer to come get it and look at it im starting to like this internet thing
