1990 Belarus 250 Questions and Introduction

Hey all,
This seems like I have found the place for answers. I have read a few posts and I apologize in advance if these questions have already been answered. I just bought a Belarus 250 and drove her home to my farm it took about 3 hours. Anyway she ran like a top until I got home. I went to turn around in the lane way and couldn't get er' back into gear?? The next day I went out and started using her to move some manure around and she worked for about 10 min, then no more gears again?? Ideas?

The next issue. One I already new about was the starter. We had to bum start her at the point of purchase but only took half turn of the rear tire to start so I bought it anyway. My brother in-law who is a mechanic looked at it and we found that the starter is spinning the wrong way. The guy I bought the tractor from said that he had the dealer do something to the starter and he was charged $100 but then he broke the solenoid when he tried to reinstall, ( I get the feeling he is not a mechanic or is he mechanically inclined). I mean the starter is in a giant open space how do you break it installing it?? He put a new solenoid on and installed starter but has not worked. Anyway, as you've guessed I'm long winded but my question is. How is the battery supposed to be wired, is it positive ground. I know that this was a common practice in the Russia back in the day. Even better does anyone have a complete wiring diagram or manual for this tractor?
Thanks..

Jim, first off, welcome!!

It looks like you've already guessed the answer to the starter, a positive ground system was rewired to negative ground, which means the starter would spin the wrong way.

BTW, Ontario is a pretty big hunk of dirt, how about narrowing your location down just a bit. Wink yeah right

Best of luck.

Thanks Murf. I'm in the 1000 Islands area in the middle between Ottawa and Toronto.

The question is still out there. Is the 1990 Belarus 250 a positive ground system? With the way it's wired now negative ground you'd think I should have fried something on my 3 hours drive??

About starter: It has always been negative(-)ground and + pole is going on solenoid on one bolt and another bolt is connected with copper wire to the dc motor.signal for starting the solenoid goes from lock to safety relay and to the solenoid. There is elecric switch on gear handle so if it's in gear it wont start.so put it in 2. or 3. gear put it out of gear and crank it up Smile.

About your gears: are you sure that you put it in the fast/slow or forward/reverse gear banks correctly, all the way to the left or right???how many work hours has it got?Maybe your gears are worn out or clutch is defective.I cant belive that mechanic's in USA dont know how to fix so simple tractor.I've been here on foum about a year and i cant belive what suggestions i have read many of them dont haven't got any logic. This tractor is constructed so that you can do engine overhaul in field, you can crank it up using screw driver etc...there in no elecronics, pure mechanic.I CAN'T BELIVE IT.Bye and good luck! Wink yeah right

Can this tractor be started by a push or pull from another tractor? How would this be done?

I don't know this tractor but feel certain you can pull it to start it. Assuming you will do so with another tractor.

You need operator on each tractor who is comfortable with that tractor. I use about a middle range gear in each tractor. Be 100% sure each one knows how they will be stopping and what they need to do to prevent the towed tractro from running into the tractor towing it. Of course have the tractor switched on. You would begin pulling with the towed tractor in gear with clutch depressed and slowing engaging when you are moving good. Depressing it when it starts.
