There is an old saying: "when the government bans all weapons, only the criminals will have them". There is a lot of truth to that statement.

Also, those for banning all weapons failed to realize, "guns don't kill, people kill people". Of course the media has picked up on this by referring to firearms as deadly weapons. More people are killed by vehicles than firearms, but you never hear the term "deadly cars or deadly trucks".

The farm machinery show starts tomorrow in Louisville at the Fair Grounds. I have never attended, but plan to spend most of Wednesday at the show. I have been told it takes a full day to see it, looking forward to seeing the big boy toys all in one place. I will give a report later in the week. Dave

The utility company I work for has a telecommunications department which provides broadband service in addition to IPS, local & long distance phone, security, & HDTV. The demand is high for the cable modem and IPS service. Right now we are booked about 3 -4 weeks out.

My daughter moved into a off campus apartment last fall, she is a student at University of Kentucky. Their provider is Insight and it took her about 6 weeks to get connected.

The demand is high throughout the country for high speed internet service. We have added temporary contractors to help cut down our lead time.

Ncruch32, your engineer friend needs to read the Engineer's Code of Ethics, and review the oath he took when he accepted his license. His attitude is a disgrace to the profession.

With my company, you can schedule a disconnect for first thing in the morning with a reconnect prior to quiting time. That is provided your electrician (and passes inspection) can complete the job within the time frame. We take pride in being responsive to the needs of the customer and do our best to work with them.

Depending on the location and accessibility of the distribution panel a main service disconnect maybe required, ref NEC art. 230.70, between the meter and distribution panel. Dave

Rap is not music and never will be, now with that said:

Our youngest daughter got married this past summer, church wedding and reception at the Country Club. The wife gave me the assignment to find a band or disc jockey.

We set a budget for the band of $1K. I called an entrainment agent about bands and she asked how much I wanted to pay. I said I didn't have any idea how much bands cost. She said the groups she represents begin at $1K and go over $50K.

With her help we got a band for $1K that was normally $1.5K, but wasn't booked, this was about 6 weeks before the wedding. The band was excellent, wore tux, and played a mixture of music, mostly soft rock and light country.

The wedding cost in excess of $20K. We based the wedding budget on what we could afford. I am glad I was able to provide our daughter a wedding of this type. But, I am glad its over. Dave

Here in Kentucky the weekend didn't get as bad as originally forecast. Maybe an 1" of snow, low Sunday morning of 8 degrees. The wind was gusting to 40 mph Saturday night.

I watched the NFL playoff games Sunday in front of a warm fire. I have deer hunted in temperatures similar to the Pitt-NE (11 degrees)game and tent camped in zero degrees. That was 20 years ago, not any more.

AV8R, in Kentucky we typically bury water lines with 36" of cover. That would be too shallow for your area. Call your local water utility and ask for someone in engineering. Ask how deep they bury water service lines, this is the line from the main to the meter.

Installation in conduit is an excellent idea, I would recommend schedule 40 PVC.

You want a minimum of 10 ft of separation from the gas line or any other underground utility.

In Kentucky we have a "BUD" (before you dig) one call system that is mandated by state law, before you dig. However, utilities will only locate those facilities which belong to them. If its after the meter it probably won't be located.

My wife and I both like to travel and the majority of our trips have been in the USA and the Caribbean. A few years ago our friends wanted to take a cruise to Alaska, the wife didn't want to go, she likes to cruise. Her comment, it will be cold.

I promised her a trip to Hawaii, which I had no desire to go. We did both trips and she liked Alaska and I liked Hawaii. We plan to return to both places.

We agree together on trips, unless it's a company paid trip, and she just tags along. I tend to make all of the arrangements and allow time for what she wants to do, shopping.

We have two other couples we travel with and most of the time we split up during the day and get back together for dinner.

As someone else said, you need to compromise. We have been married for 36 years. If you cheerfully agree to go on the trip, then she will probably agree to a shorter time.

I would agree, Mexico is not my favorite vacation spot. However, I would return to Cabo San Lucas. There are better vacation places in the Caribbean, i.e., Aruba, St Thomas/St.John, St. Lucia, Caymen Islands, to name a few.

Our ramblings about SONET and T1's didn't scratch the surface, this subject gets complicated quick. I will retire in a few years and don't spend the time trying to keep up with technology, like I did a few years ago. I hire young computer gurus, to deal with these issues.

There is a lot to be said for the simple things like seat time on your tractor. Dave

I just visited the web site and played the video. It is well done and touching. We owe a lot to the soldiers in Iraq, as well as those who fought in previous wars.

When I was younger and did all of my own service work, I changed the fluids more often that the manufacturer's recommended schedule.

Now days I don't fool with it, I take it to the dealer, whether it's the tractor, the SUV or the car, per their recommended schedule. It's not something I enjoy doing, dealing with the mess and proper disposal of the oil.

However, until now I always owned gas engines and this is my first diesel engine. I kept my previous tractor over 16 years. The engine was still in good shape, just everything else was breaking. Dave.

A couple of years ago I purchased a three acre tract that has been in grass for several years. I did a soil sample and the results where very low lime and low phosphors, also recommended adding nitrogen.

In October I added ag lime at the rate of two tons per acre. December is the recommended time to add nitrogen, but I haven't done it yet.

A soil sample is the only way to go, then you know what you need to add. My cost was $5 with a two to four week turn around. Dave

I didn't think there where expensive. I would assume most tractor supply stores would carry them.

I have wanted a welder for some time, but just haven't made the move to purchase one. At one time we could use the welders at work. However, due to abuse by some, now no one can use them except the garage personnel. Dave

Kubotachick, where in Mexico are you going? Is this your first visit there? I have been to Cancun (too many college kids), Cozumel (beautiful water), and several places on the west coast known as the Mexican Rivera. We really liked Cabo San Lucas. The only place I don't like is Acapulco, too many beggars and very aggressive, including the taxi drivers. Dave

Blueman, those first pictures where taken right after delivery. The tractor now has 50 hours and a scratch or two.

I would love to have a 50th anniversary. But it will have to wait until my youngest graduates from college. My all time favorite corvette is the '62. Maybe one of these days.

My company has an annual fish fry at our clubhouse in July. Excellent fish, slaw, baked beans, and hush puppies, and its free. Up until a few years ago we also had kegs of beer. Now you bring your own or go with soft drinks.

Ann, nice to know there are UK fans in Ohio. UK didn't do very well this afternoon in their game at North Carolina. Oh well, we have two freshman starting but we have owned NC the last four outings. Gave them their second worse home court loss in '02.

The threads on this board are interesting in how they ramble from one subject to the next. This one began as a possible strike and ends up talking about dogs and moles, and now basketball.

Ann, maybe you ought to setup a program to determine what percentage of the threads stay on the subject from beginning to end. I bet it would be small.

Early this year I made an offer of $4000 for a '92 B7100 with a 60" MMM, 1100 hours, and HST. The individual was asking $4500 and didn't accept my offer. I test drove one at a dealer which had 700 hours, same setup, asking price of $5000. This tractor was rough and didn't make an offer. I found these tractors as high as $6500 and as low as $3500. Ended up buying new. Hope this helps. Dave
