I wish there were a way to edit posted messages. I didn't mean this last comment to sound as harsh as it does when I re-read it. I thought maybe the original poster already had plenty of 9N experience but just didn't know how it would handle the blower he specified. Sorry.

Seems the front bucket mount snow blower(hydraulic) as used by the Skid Steers should work if your bucket is quick tach as some of the other Deere buckets are.
The skid-steer sno-blowers I am familiar with work well, but its a bit frustrating when its so hard to tell if they are filling (plugging) up with snow. The only and first clue is there is no snow coming out the chute. By then, its too late to back off and let it discharge the snow before advancing. It is helpful to be able to reverse the blower and hopefully get the slug out of there. Careful operation with some experience is the key to getting one to work smoothly, which isn't too hard to do.

Two have mentioned about dirty glass on the woodstve. I too had dirty glass upon the first burns in the Defiant stove. I cleaned the glass the first time, and it was a real chore. After the second time, I sprayed PAM on (stuff used on cookie sheets, and frying pans, so food won't stick). That seemed to help a lot, and the stove went a long time before I cleaned the glass again. Much, much easier to clean too. Now its been a long time, and while the glass is a bit dirty, one can still see through it.

You can get an over-running clutch for the PTO (about $60) that will overcome some of the "pushing" problems caused by the simple PTO system you are asking about. This clutch goes on the PTO output stub and then the mower PTO shaft attaches to it. The tractor can be stopped, and the mower blades will keep on spinning. Without the over-running clutch, the spinning mower blades will push the tractor until they stop spinning. Also, if the blades are spinning and you are in neutral, you will not be able to shift into gear until the blades stop (that is if the PTO shaft is connected to the transmission on the side of the rear axle gears).

Toyota used to make a small pickup with a diesel engine (early 80's). Freind of mine had one and it went forever and ever. Long after the cab and body rusted away. He patched and patched and replaced parts with treated wood just because the diesel kept on running. It was not an overpowering power plant, however.

If just the "leakdown" is what you are describing as the problem (don't understand what "sparadic" means), then your dealer may just be chasing stardust. I found out with my 4300 that the loader cylinders held just fine, until after I transported a major amount of top soil about 300 yards. After that the loader will "leakdown". I attribute that to the hard use I put the loader through. I rarely find it annoying except when hanging a deer from the bucket to skin and butcher it. But then it just means I need to keep working and get the job done. Otherwise, I don't rely on the bucket holding its position for any length of time. If parked the bucket is lowered for safety reasons, whether there is a load in it or it is empty.
Now leakdown is not something I like, but I will tolerate it.

Some threads in another site talk about aluminum in the cylinders that cause FEL problems, but I interpreted (as in 'remember') the problems were more serious than leakdown. Also, some here have previously described early 4x00's as having steel filing debris (from manufacturing) in the hyd. fluid, and some debris might be stuck in your system (but that sounds like what your dealer has already been chasing). I doubt that your Deere is any more prone to this problem than the other brands, as leakdown seems like a common aggravation with CUT owners.

Now, your "handle" seems to be a potential giveaway to your propensity to have "problems" (smile). Hopefully we collectively can shed some light on them for you to be less 'fickle' about your "leakdown". (There is a form of "leakdown" that comes with age (smile)).

Have you a snow plow on your loader or tractor now? So far, I don't have my plow on, as we have only been getting a dusting of snow. Not far enough south to get the good snows, or along the lake for the lake effect snows. Just putting up with the global warming single digit lows. What part about global warming do I not understand???

Just jumped on here, and from your description, I don't see any problems with anything. The cyl. rods are supposed to be that color - come new that way. Up to you on the fluid. I would visit your Deere dealer (first to make a good, friendly contact for later, and second, to see if they will run a history check for you). I have only great things to say about the 4300, and have not had any bad experiences. Major (not really, but relative to anything else) was the foggy dash, which Deere corrected. Sorry didn't get back to your questions sooner.

I have the pallet forks for the Deere 4300 w/430 loader, and there is a receiver built into the fork frame that will take a bale spear. Seems talking with your dealer to look into it for you will help greatly answer your question. The forks I have are about equally useful as the bucket is, to the point I store the tractor without either attached. It is so quick to back out of the shed, and attach whichever (bucket or forks) to do the job I want to do - move brush, load gravel, dig rock, etc. Very handy attachment, and wish I would have purchased the forks much sooner. Your idea of dropping the feeder over the bale seems to make a lot of sense. It would then be in a new position in the lot each time too.

Seems the only main difference there is from one side to the other is the fact that the blade is cutting in the direction of travel on one side, and on the other side is cutting in the opposite direction of travel. The appearance of the stubble may be what is most noticeable. Speed of travel may be affecting the cut, as well as the height (and amoount) of the grass (or whatever) being cut. One side of the rotary cutter usually leaves a windrow of cut material which may also affect the relative cut on each side. Likely the nature of the beast, not any difference between the blades.

Not sure why you cannot attach the Deere i Match directly to the 3ph, and then use the ballast box from Deere that is i Match compatible. I like the idea of having a ballast box that quickly can be attached or dropped via the i Match, and is the way I have been planning to go, as soon as I can get to Deere. I plan to use it on my Deere 4300. Are you talking about an older ballast box that is not i Match compatible? I am interested in knowing about such problems, but didn't think there were any.

Which is stronger, will depend on where the knots are (if any), what species you are comparing, and whether you are talking bending (MOE) strength, or ultimate (MOR) strength. If the 2x6 is a low-density wood but graded std. and btr, and the 2x4 is a clear, straight-grain high-density hardwood (white oak), the white oak will probably be stronger. The comments by Tom are very good. If its not graded, it may not be a question of which is stronger, but one of it not being graded by (or under the auspicies of)an inspection bureau. Once a builder (carpenter) cut off all the grading marks on one end of the joists (they were too long, and needed to be shortened) and lost to the inspector (ungraded material). In spite of what the material looks like, the grades are good and consistent. If machine graded, often the lumbert looks so bad appearance-wise, that a visual grade is applied just to cull out the poor lookers.
As Tom says, get the inspectors advance approval first.

Have you ever plowed ground with -say- a 2 or 3 bottom plow on a 3pt hookup? I mildly suspect you have not, as I would think a whole lot of the mystery about draft control and positioning would drop in place otherwise.
Only curious to know. I don't mean this to sound un-friendly in any way. Just trying to better understand your curiosity and wonderment about this subject.

VERY WELL SAID. I find the same thing when I talk to my Deere dealer. Now he seems to only take the competitor for 'consignment' if it is orange or blue 9not a trade-in), as they are hard to move. This dealer also has a dirt pile, and it is a basic selling tool for him.

My experience with blue, vs green in the dirt pile was how slow the blue loader would operate, compared to how fast the green loader was (comparable bucket size and tractor size). I usually don't like to make these comparisons public (here), as I know there are 'lovers' of all different types and shapes, and that is a good thing.

The competition is great for all of us. I respect the desires of those who want orange, or blue, or yellow. I don't understand, but I am happy for you regardless.

One 'rule' or response regarding dropping the bucket to the ground when losing rear wheel traction and sliding downhill likely won't always apply. If the traction on the rear wheels is lost, it is quite possible dropping the bucket will decrease weight on the front wheels and add weight, thus traction, to the rear sliding wheels. For sure, if there is a load in the bucket, it would be important to drop the bucket to the ground, hoping that the leading edge of the bucket is curled up and won't dig into the ground. I would also apply both brakes to keep one wheel from rotating forward and the other rotating in reverse. The positraction will work too. Just letting the rear wheels work through the differential, will cause one wheel to rotate counter to the other, thus increasing the chances of turning the tractor away from a straight downhill slide. Been there, done that.

About the car trick on its edge, I suspect the rear end differential was also modified, to get power to only the one rear wheel on the ground. I wasn't surprised that the cars were fixed up to do the trick. Thanks for letting us know how it was done. I remember being surprised they could keep the car on edge as long as they did. My original point was only to relate to the steering reaction to keep the car balanced on the two wheels i.e. turn 'downhill'.

Tom, its difficult for me to explain myself clearly to someone short on experience, and long on mentally rendering what might be happening. I don't mean that to be derogatory, as you contribute a lot of thought to most messages in jplan.
My comparison with the use of the FEL was NOT using the FEL as a log carrier (I would find that next to impossible, except to maybe lift a log onto a wagon, truck, or trailer for hauling - and then doing it with the forks, not the bucket and chain).
My comparison between the 3pt log carrier we were discussing (like the one on e-bay) and the use of the FEL was the stability of the tractor vs. the load. My experience using the 3pt arch and log tongs to move logs is this is much more stable and easier to control than when using the FEL to move a bucket of dirt, or other max. load one might use the FEL for. With a load on the FEL, the tractor is much more unstable and not as easy to control than when using the 3pt to carry an equivalent load. And the closer the load (on the 3pt) is to the rear wheels, the more stable the tractor is. Putting the load out on a boom pole for an equivalent load will make the tractor more unstable.
As I have probably added more confusion to the issue, I am out of here. Only to say, the 3pt lift for logs is a GREAT way to cheaply move logs out of the woods. Been doing it safely (i.e. no flips or unstable moments) for 40 years - beginning with an 8n Ford, then a TO30 Ferguson, then a JD 420 Utility, and now a JD 4300. I will not recommend anyone else do this as there are more difficult and less safe ways that one might want to pursue.

I am in the process of repairing woodpecker holes in the boards of my board and batten siding. I use a hole saw to remove a round 2" plug, then use another hole saw to make the plugs that I put back in the holes. Did about 20 of them today. Will pressure wash before applying semi-transparent stain next week. The plugs look like oversize knots, and don't seem too objectionable.
For the woodpeckers, I use the shotgun when I can, but also use rat traps baited with suet and hanging near the new holes they are pecking. Only solution I know of is to get rid of the occasional woodpecker that seems to be marking out its territory.

One question, would be why do you want the speedometer? Just to know? or are you using the tractor to apply a pesticide or such? GPS could be accurate for a certain time (access to three or more satelites) in the field but not accurate if not in the open. Ground sensitive instrumentst would by-pass any slippage of the wheels, such as the case when monitoring the internal shaft rpm's and also not be influenced by tire size. If calibrating the tach( engine rpm's) to speed would be sufficient, then it can be done on a measured stretch of road and a stop watch (or the second hand on a watch). Once the tachometer is calibrated, then it can serve as a pretty accurate speedometer. Not sure which is best for you?
