My Kubota bx23 came with a Land Pride PD10 post hole digger, and it was fine. I don't think the PD10 is specifcally sold as "for CUTs".

If anything I wish the auger was a little bit longer but I haven't found an auger extension for the PD10 yet.

That kubota will be great to put your fence in! I put in all my horse fencing plus a big fence at my parents' place all with my BX23.

I should've videotaped the fireworks- good idea. Sometimes you get so mad you can't think straight. I'm going to keep camcorder handy from now on.

I think I'll take a few photos of the back of his home so if he drags me in front of the HOA or lawyers, I can show them his standards. He's the type to keep his front yard immaculate and have dogcrap and weeds for a backyard which only I get to see.

I can't afford a $1500 for a special video camera, and even if I wanted it I'd need several cause the property line on his side is really 450'. Honestly the problem with him isn't so much him tresspassing but rather the trouble he causes from his own front porch or telephone.

I'm also looking at real estate ads just to see what's out there.Land in Cecil Co is overvalued and a 10-20 acre parcel w/house may cost $500-$900k+. I REALLY wish I could relocate to somewhere rural like Kentucky or Carolinas. I've seen 150 acre farms there w/barns, pond, and everything for $150-200k.

You all who live in rural areas are so fortunate. What I wouldn't give for a 30 acre farm in a peaceful county town!

Scam!!!

Tell him you'll only do it if his agent brings the full amount by in CASH (which of course he won't do).

He'll send you what *looks* like a certified check. You'll deposit it, the money won't go through, and by then the tractor will be picked up and disappeared.

This is a commons scam they've been pulling for high-dollar items, from tractors to horses to cars.

Weird question but could a wheeled log skidder (like the kind used for horse-drawn logging) work with a tractor?

I've seen pairs of draft horses pull amazingly large logs with the help of these wheeled devices.

I've pulled out stumps that size with my kubota bx23. Enough time & patience and my bx23 can dig out (almost) anything. Part of the equation is how fast do you need to clear the land? If you need acres & acres cleared, might just be easier to pay someone to doze the stumps out.

For hay, definitely look at the larger hp tractors. I can actually find a small baler rated for CUT tractors, but they're so costly & hard to find used ... you're better off putting your money into a bigger tractor and get a standard size used baler.

That's alot of money in my opinion... and are you sure you want to coat your home in lots of poison on a regular basis?

Carpenter bees bore holes in wood and are drawn to softer wood. If you're seeing tons of them, you may have a moisture problem somewhere that's damaging the wood. Same goes for carpenter ants; if you see a zillion of them it might be a sign there's wood rotting somewhere in a wall or floor.

As far as wasps go, just knock down the nests as you see them. Or get a can of hornet spray and stand back 20' to hit the nest at sunset. Try to discourage them from coming in the first place by closing up soffits, making attics bugproof,etc

They're doing it in little ways to all of us. They're micromanaging zoning so you have so little freedom of what you can do on your own property. If you have "wetlands" forget about having say in what you do with your own land. Try to fix up your property & you'll be paying a fortune in permit fees (and lousy code inspections). They keep upping prop taxes; it so high now it's forcing oldtime farmers to sell out to developers.

You can spend your whole life working to buy & keep up your home, and the government can just pluck it away from you one way or another. Thank you big government (sarcasm)

Fiddled with all the quick disconnects. Pushed every lever back and forth on tractor making sure something wasn't stuck halfway on/off.... and it now magically WORKS! Needless to say I am very happy!!!

I am disappointed in my dealer. I called them almost a week ago to schedule a service call to fix this & they never even tried to call back. I'm so glad the problem is gone.

I went with kubota partly because my local NH dealer was run by dingbats and their prices were much higher for a similar unit.

If the price, features, and warranty are the same then go with the dealer who you like better. They will be the one you'll be working with long after the sale with warranty/repair questions.

You got to think of it from their point of view.They feel they won't benefit if the nice edge of your lawn is protected...or your driveway has a nicer entrance. Their interest is simply in keeping the roadway passable and directing roadway runoff away from the road.

Fair or not, they're the government and can do what they please.

I think you're better off not staying angry. If this project is important and you have the $1000, do it... otherwise try to find a cheaper way to control erosion (line top of ditch with stone?) or just forget about it. Either way it's not worth losing sleep over.

If it's a garage with a nice cement floor or something you'd want to finish off later, i'd go with traditional framing. It'll allow for hanging drywall and be more finished looking inside.

Whenever I abbreviate "at" with the at symbol, it refuses and complains saying ads are not permitted. But I'm not posting an ad, link, or email! The first time it happened it took me 10 minutes of removing all symbols from my long post to realise it was that one little "at" symbol that did it.<br>

Can't comment on your pricing since it seems prices vary ALOT region/region or between dealers. I got my bx23 late last spring w/MMM, PostHole digger setup, and bar-tires for about the same ballpark price at 0% financing.

No idea what the snowblower costs; I remove my snow with my FEL and a rear blade.

I don't regret getting the bx23 at all. It's small but powerful, manuerverable, and reliable. I have no idea why whenver the topic of buying a new bx23 comes up, someone always chimes in "they're not big enough".

I'm on 15 acres. I use it for weekly mowing, snow removal, gravel drive maintenance, moving dirt, cleaning horse pastures, landscaping, clearing forest, installing underground water/electric lines, removing stumps, installing acres of horse fence, and pretty anything else you can think of. It's the greatest thing since sliced bread... all in a compact size that I can park in my normal-size garage or that I can slip between my orchard trees for mowing.

It's good you're keeping records. The only thing I wanted to add is that you may need to add "video survelliance" signs (depending on state laws and where the camera is pointed)... otherwise the courts may make the videos inadmissable in court since you're violating his "privacy". Just a thought.

Off-brands are fine as long as you understand you may not get the full service/parts as the big brands. I can't fix my own tractor, so I had to choose a brand with a local dealer & repair center.

That 4k quote didn't include FEL or snowblower, did it? seems pretty inexpensive to me

If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend "Horse Keeping on Small Acerage". It'll help you decide the # horses/acre. I just learned that in some PA townships they do limit the # of horses/acre, too.

My answer: it depends alot on the land, the weather/ conditions, the horses themselves, and how everything is managed.

Will the horses be allowed to roam it during the dark, wet winter? Lots of damage happens to the grasses when horses hooves plod over dormant grass. Add to it the mud, and the soil quickly becomes compacted and bare, especially along horses' favorite spots.

Do they live on it 24/7 or is it just daytime turnout and stalls the rest of the time? Will someone be overseeding the fields or are we totally relying on nature to restore the grazed areas?

You said 4-7 acres. With proper rotation it could easily support a few horses, more if horses aren't on it 24/7 every single day. I'd divide it up into three 2ac plots & rotate. Depending on how picky you are about how the field looks, two might be the right # or you could allow 4 or possibly more. But if he said he had a dozen, I'd definitely worry!

If you're seeing lots & lots of weeds, the pasture might be becoming overgrazed. Rotate the areas being sure the horses are removed when the grass is really short (rule of thumb is i think 4" or less). What's happening is the grass is being stressed too much and weeds are going nuts in the holes. Weedkiller won't solve this problem long-term. Focus your energy on keeping the grass vibrant & strong. Aerate if you can (hooves pound the ground solid). Overseed & fertilize as needed.

I have 2 horses in smaller areas too. What I'll do once the area is grazed well is remove/ breakup manure piles, then mow at a tall setting. This knocks down most weeds before they go to seed. I'll let the area rest for at least a few weeks before horses go back. Really scary (potentially toxic) weeds are removed by hand or spotspraying & keeping horses off area till sprayed plants die off. In the winter horses are on a small sacrifice area so that their prime grazing areas aren't damaged.

I thought it was just my computer acting up when I noticed tractorpoint no longer fits. I'm at 1024x768 and I have to scrrrrrrrroll to the left&right to see everything on the screen. It's been driving me nuts!

I'd like to suggest maybe consolidating the two advertising columns on the right into one to help with the scrolling/pagewidth issue.

I'd rather not see the text going to a smaller font. With so much text to read, it'll be hard for some of us if the text is made tinier.

Or maybe this is more an issue with the message board settings? Is the width of the column the board itself uses a fixed # pixels or %? Can you set it to make the message board text fill up the width not already in use by the ad columns (but never exceeding site visitor's res)?

I'm NOT a grass expert but I have done what you're suggesting. Last fall I cut out the trees, dug up the stumps with the bx23, and then used the FEL to fill in the holes. I didn't use a rake or blade afterwards since my ground was pretty level except where trees or rocks had been.

The trouble with land clearing is that any big holes you backfill may settle over the next few months leaving your perfect grade full of dips; my advice is don't sweat making the grading 100% perfect right now.

I seeded with fast growing/periennal mix and when it comes time to overseed in the fall I'll also take a handrake and some topsoil to fill in the depressions to fix where big stumpholes really settled.

I didn't have a thick layer of pine needles or too many roots, so your results may vary. I didn't do a soil test either, but it probably would be a good idea.

the bx23 and 2210 are both compact tractors, not designed for huge jobs. Don't knock the CUTs till you've been on one awhile; I was amazed what my bx23 could do! I opted againt the Jd because theirs wasn't really designed for the BH. They'd have to add a bunch of hoses and a valve and some other stuff (compared to kubota where it's totally designed to run a BH). New Holland was even worse-they wanted me to remove the MMM every time I hooked the BH up (stupid!)

Tell us what you want to do and how big the mowing -plowing - digging projects will be and we can give you a better answer.

I would ignore where the tractor is made. Even "american" cars are assembled of parts made anywhere in the world. Focus instead on the warranty and on the quality of your local dealer.
