I have skylights which were installed when my house was built about 6 or so years ago. They've never leaked. My only issue with skylights is that without a vaulted cieling, you end up deep boxes going from interior ceiling to skylight...in winter all the heat goes straight up away from where people can appreciate it.

I owned two El Cheapos before I upgraded to my Kubota BX23. I used them mainly just to mow normal height grass, no extreme conditions or excessive wear.

My first one, MTD, had the trans die early and for no particular reason. My second one I believed to be an upgrade for the MTD cost $1,800 new. Its front wheels actually fall off! Stupid design had cheesy little c-clips holding the wheels on; turn too sharp and -pop- no wheel. Mower deck, a fancy "easy to level system", refused to stay tight no matter what I did to it. Manufacturers never seemed to care, retailers don't usually accept returns on gaspowered mowers after 15 or 30 days... so in a month or two you'll realise the problems and then you're stuck.

I won't even get into how often both these mowers had belt problems. Mower #2 also has one of the mower deck bearings suddenly sieze up (shortly after warranty expired), costing me alot in parts plus another new belt. #$^# things.

Both had reliable b&s engines though #2 had alot of starting problems in each spring once it was no longer new.

Oh, and did I mention these things have no resale value. They're build to be disposable. For $900 you're going to get a self-propelled pushmower that someone tacked a seat and a cupholder onto.

Hang onto your $900 and keep an eye out for a quality used riding tractor.

What's wrong with people being held responsible for what their dog/pet/children do? Whose fault is it if not his?

Jail time might be a little extreme, but he should definitely be sued in civil courts and forced to pay damages. Can you imagine the anguish of the poor cat owner? Some people's pets are like family, and to have one chewed to bits by a careless neighbor's vicous dog isn't right.

Maybe if people were always held accountable for what their pets (or kids) did, people wouldn't think vicious animals are so "cool" and owners wouldn't let their pets run at large.

$I feel your pain. I have a bachelor's in computer science from a great university plus a ton of college credits after graduation... plus years of work experience. But the IT market is all oursourced now. Programmers in India will work for a tiny fraction of the US prices. Now I can't find work anywhere, even if I consider commutes to philly or baltimore. My options are to go out and get a truck driver's licence or to work for Walmart. I don't care what anyone says, this economy stinks. Corporations are too greedy. And outsourcing everything is going to end up hurting america in the long run.$ My job just went offshore

If you're not using it anymore, get rid of it... end of problem. To discourage them from messing with your new grill, consider one of those tight fitting covers.

Re: chimney birds. They may be chimney swifts (a protected species). Instead of pulling out a gun next time you see an animal in the house, try a net instead. If you have an ongoing problem with these birds, have a cap put on the chimney.

My nextdoor neighbor mows his lawn all the time with his very small son in his lap... zooming along high speed on his JD CUT. He's the kind of guy who'd turn VERY nasty if I said anything to him, and I wondered maybe it was dangerous enough to ask social services to talk to him? (I don't have kids, but it didn't look safe at all to me)

P.S. This is the same adult who races his motorbike (no helmet) along side neighborhood kids (also no helmet) on our narrow development lane, doing wheelies.

Was I really seeing this dangerous act

I opted againt the JD because JD doesn't set it up their CUT for a BH. I would've had to buy an add-on one, and then pay the dealer $$$ for an extra hydraulic line. I was also concerned about the frame strength issue using a BH on a small tractor not designed around it. In my area, the bx23 was actually cheaper anyway (0% financing, good dealer price) vs 7.9% JD financing + extra $$ for BH modifications. I've had my bx23 since last summer, and it's been great.

I've installed laminate floors several times. Tried Pergo and Armstrong. No idea about your brand, but be aware some brands are a PITA to install... seams weren't 100% straight. Laminate floors look like poo if there are gaps, even small ones, between pieces. Some floors (the glueless ones) *require* a good, straight fit on all sides.

it does hold up well. I have a room in my basement done with it years ago and had no problems.

You'll want to rent/buy the install tool as this will make your life soooo much easier.

If the fence is in good order and through freak accident he escapes,you are usually protected. If you are responsible for fence maintenance and don't...and he keeps breaking free 10 times till a car accident happens, then it's likely you will be legally responsible. The law understands that an animal escaping can happen, even to extremlely careful property owners.

Also be aware of the liability you have to the horse owner. If something you are responsible for causes the injury/death of a horse, the law can force you to pay damages. Make as much of the maintenance/fencing responsiblity his (in writing); it's that much less horseowner can find fault in you for.

Yooberpete, you know as a female I can't let you get away with saying that without saying something. <g>

The only reason women get into trouble is because they haven't had people show them ("women don't need to know that stuff") or because every guy around them says "you can't do it!!!" and the woman becomes a nervous wreck.

I operate my FEL and BH confidently, but every time I try to ask a guy for a tip, he dismisses me. So, I just had to teach myself. And yes, women can have a "pucker" sensor, too.

what kind of tires do you have?

I don't have a boxblade but I have a 5' scraper on my bx23. It works wonders even when scraping snow or thick mud. I have the zigzag tires (what are they called? not the turf ones).

I had Starband for a few years because it was the only way I could get highspeed internet in my rural area. I dropped it once Cable Modems were available because of cost.

It worked pretty well and was alot faster than dial-up, but it was really expensive. Cable was half the cost. Look at the monthly cost, the equipment cost, and any cost you might have to pay to run wires.

The thing about satellite is that it's designed to be superfast for sending info TO you. When you have to send info back to the net (running a web server, playing an interactive game, uploading to the net), it's much slower. Because of the slower upload speeds you also can't do realtime multiplayer games well (this is called latency -- the delay in getting groups of information back and forth to you). This isn't the end of the world unless you (1) live for realtime games, eg. Doom (2) plan on hosting your own fast web site locally It does work VERY nice for downloading software and music and such.

Technically in my opinion, any of these can be considered "broadband" as they are all significantly faster than dial-up and are always on.

Some of the providers try to limit what you can do. Most of these limits are easy to circumvent. For example I can run a Web server on my home computer even know my cable internet provider says it's not allowed.

I am also female, and I have no background in using a FEL/BH. I LOVE the kubota. It's small enough I can handle it, and it's big enough to do the work that I need done on my 15ac. It could be my imagination but it also seemed a bit quieter than the comparable NH and JD I testdrove.

Also ask about tire types. I opted for the bigger nubbly tires (not sure the right name?). I've been really happy with them. Didn't seem to hurt my lawn and I never got stuck in the snow or mud. Just something to think about if you're asking about traction (4x4)

I'd drive it into my little town and pull up next to those obscenely jacked-up SUVs-- show them a real country offroad vehicle! For some reason the locals like to put their Ford Explorers on lift kits so high you could park a Yugo under it. What's that all about?

I'd be more worried if the buy-it-now price was $2k. Maybe he figures everyone will bid on it and he can afford to start low?

Not sure why he doesn't list details like his location, shipping cost, payment options, or tractor s/n in ad. Maybe he's an honest guy who is clueless about ebay?

Me personally, I would never bid on it. Looks too fishy to me.

I'd still need something to lift the pile into the FEL.

In a perfect world someone would invent a machine I could tow that would pick up the nuggets and fill a cart. I can't believe nobody has invented such a thing.

brokenarrow- I don't have spouse as an option. No neighborhood kids in need of money either.

I usually see at least 1-2 tractor companies as well as other implement sellers at the big horse expos. The average hobbyist horseperson (at least here in Midatlantic) doesn't have 100's of acres, so the CUTS are targeted towards us.

I only wish they had *all* the major brands represented at the same time.
