Perhaps I wasn't clear in my post, but what I was really talking about were the XX50, XX70, XX90 series JD being Yanmars with the only difference being paint and the price. I stand by that statement and anyone who has ever set an 850 JD side by side with a Yanmar knows what I am talking about. As for the larger 4XXX series tractors I am sure there was engineering work done on them in this country, but the guts of the tractor is still all Yanmar.

I think used wheel weights for a compact tractor will be very difficult to find. We would proably add liquid ballast to the rear tires for weight and add suitcase (hang on) weights on the front bumper. We have the hang on weights available for $30.00 dollars each they weight 42 lbs a piece. Generally 4 or 5 are required to do the job and counter balance a 5ft rotary cutter. A hydraulic top link will NOT add down pressure as you still have a fixed top link and the lower links are still free to move up if this is a no down pressure tractor. The only difference is now the length of the top link can be changed without manually turning the toplink. This is very handy for scape blades and box blades. A hydraulic toplink can not damage the implement or tractor as long and the range of travel is within the normal adjustment range of a manual toplink

Stiger does not equal Steiger. We are a Case /IH dealer and also deal in grey market tractors. We have asked and there is no known relationship between Case and Shibaura. No one we've talked to even in Japan knows what the Stiger means on the Shibaura tractors. By the way Shibaura builds compacts for New Holland. Yesterday was the first day of business for the merged companies of Case and New Holland. The company is now offically known as Case New Holland or CNH.

Sounds like your system maybe getting air bound possibly from a faulty check valve that allows hyd fluid to drain from pickup. One way to check this is to crack the pressure line fitting loose and see if you can get fluid coming out. If so get fluid coming and then tighten up the fitting. This is messy but will remove air trapped in the system. We have seen this in many grey market models as well as Big "American Iron" as well. Also make sure the tranny is full of hyd oil as full as possible. Sometimes over filling can help solve this problem

With chippers bigger is better and there is no such thing as too much HP on a chipper. Most of the small PTO driven chippers get by with less HP by using a less aggressive knife angle. This results in the chipper taking smaller bites of wood (less HP but slower feed rate) it is also used in the hand feed chippers because the less aggressive angles reduce the tendency to quickly pull material in the chipper and are safer for hand feeding. Hyd feed is nice because if the manufacturer did his job the feed rate of the material is designed to match the chipping capacity of the chipper and gives an even feed of material without bogging the driver power unit. I have worked on 1000 to 2000 HP whole tree chippers in chip mill applications. These machines have a disc weight of about 40,00 lbs and can reduce several 8-12

Ok guys lets get back to the original post -- Will Fit Oil Filters -- The oil filter quality discussion is interesting and important but lets address the issue of will fits on grey market tractors. A will fit filter- will fit physically... Was it designed for the application ? You don't know. The important parts of the filter you can't see and can't determine the effectiveness without expensive lab tests. You can bet any manufacturer of engines has tested oil filters on their engines extensively. Think about it... if you build say 3 million engines per year and can find a filter that meets specs for .50 cents less per filter you'll use it and put 1.5 million towards the bottom line. But as a manufacturer you will be sure that your new cheaper filter will not cause your engines to fail because it doesn't take many engine failures in the field to make you savings evaporate. The manufacturers filters may cost more but they will meet specs. An example of a Will fit that will fail. The old non-tubro 6.9/7.3L IDI Navistar diesels used in Ford trucks used a pretty decent sized oil filter that was about $9.00 -$10.00 most places. The new Navistar (Powerstroke) 7.3L DI uses an oil filter that is the same diameter and mounting threads but is much longer. Difference is due to additional filtration requirements of this engine and the engine oil used to actuate the fuel injectors. This new filter is about twice the price of the old filter, and some guys figured they would save some bucks because the old sytle filters

I'm sure in one of these message boards I saw a web address for a company that made leaf collection system that ran of a PTO. Needless to say I lost the web address and can't find the article again.<br>So any one have any recommended leaf collection / mulching systems for compact tractors that are suitable for yard clear up work. Sounds like you have sheared a pin or key somewhere in the 4wd linkage. Start by looking at the lever connection to the shaft. If thats not it its going to be a problem inside the transmission. My local dealer has Ford New Holland 1620 with 2000hrs on it. It has a Belly mower which comes with it (won't seperate it out) and a front end loader he wants $12,900 for it is this a good price ? Are there any known problems with this model to watch for when buying second hand? Thanks in advance for all your help.

I am completely new to the world of tractors and the joys of home ownership. I have a 3 acre yard that is a mixture of wooded lot and areas of grass. The whole lot is on a slope of varying gradient probably form 10 to 22 degrees. My main objectives for any machine would be to be able to mow in the summer and clear snow effectively from a 250 ft surfaced driveway. Over the next few years I intend to re-landscape the lot, clear some of the wooded areas, build a garage into the hillside and build some dry stone walls. I have about $10,000 to spend and could stretch to more if the arguments were good enough to convince my wife! I want to get a compact tractor that is not overkill but would be a good investment to assist in the yard projects. So I am open to advise. Is a compact tractor even the right way to go? I particularly would like to know how many hours is too many on a second hand compact and any recommended second hand dealers.

Using a compact to drag a few logs or skid a few trees is one thing. The point I was making is the original post indicated he was a commerical forestry operator that means skidding 40+ hours per week when weather permits. There is a big difference between occasional use and commerical service in many products. One thing you quickly learn in the equipment business is to assume the most abusive conditions exist when helping a customer select equipment. Forestry service is known abusive environment for equipment. Given these facts a bigger heavier tractor is going to be more reliable in this application. Its not that work is bad for a tractor, but it must be properly sized and applied for the application. The original post also asked about chinese tractors, their reliability is questionable at best. Alan you were proably also running your own tractor when you were skidding and being careful, generally owners take better care of equipment than a paid employee operator in seat. For commercial service unfortunately brutal operators are the rule rather than the exception. That also factors into the equipment selection process. I have seen tractor parts broken in ways you wouldn't think could happen but it does.

My TC33D does not smoke at all. I only have 27 hours on it at this time though.<br>The retail price on my New Holland was around $19000 with a loader. My local dealer has been a great help throughout the buying and testing process. I know from past experience that my dealership will bend over backwards to please their customers. As for factory parts, I hope I won't need too many, if you know what I mean.I am thouroughly satisfied with my TC33D.
