The only problem I see with the TC18 is the price. That is an awfully high price for such a small tractor. I priced some new tractors back in the spring and all the tractors priced were 4wd, shuttle shift models, with front loaders. You can adjust for a belly mower. <br>JD790 $14,182<br>JD4200 $15,277<br>JD4300 $17,007<br>Cub Cadet 7300 $15,090 with R4's 30hp<br>MF 1250 $17,100 32hp<br>Like I said these are without the belly mower and all prices are before tax. I would shop around some. You already have a tractor so you can afford to wait and find a better deal.

I did not mean to offend so many folks with my comment. Obviously I must have hit a nerve. Using a clutch to shift between gears, ie: 1-2-3-4-5 is no different than shifting 1st to reverse. I didn't necessarily mean people shift their cars into reverse 100 times a day. Someone started this whole thread with a question about HST reliability and I responded as someone with experience with both types. Through my part-time sales and general interest in tractors I have had over fifty different tractors to play with. I thought maybe I could add something but I guess I didn't.

The 4XXX series tractors are a new design and from the posts here and on other forums, still have a few bugs that need to be worked out. The 790 is still built by Yanmar, as the 50 and 70 series tractors were. The 790 is the former 770 with a bigger engine. I looked with interest at it a few months back. The only drawback for me was it's light weight. It is only 2105lbs. To me weight is as important as hp. The loader mounts the same way as the 4XXX series. It is quick detach.

The 70 series was built by Yanmar. The 4xxx series is made in Georgia but they use Yanmar engines. I believe the 4100 is also made by Yanmar.

I don't know if you have seen the spray-in bedliners that you can get for pick up trucks now or not. I am thinking about taking the next tractor I get to one of the spray-in places and get them to do the floor boards. If you haven't seen this stuff, you should check it out. They scuff the paint in the truck bed and spray this rubberized coating in. The stuff is tear resistant and will not let your cargo slide like a traditional bedliner. It seems perfect for tractor applications.

Have the deluxe 3 point on my 1925 Boomer. Can't remember...was it a $50 option. Well worth it...makes hook-up much easier. Bet if you asked all of us that have one, we'd say we'd order this option again.

Thanks for your help. Was the battery connection...used a file on both the post and cable end, and replaced the nut and bolt...they were so corroded that neither a metric or standard wrench would fit...had to get the vise grips.

I have had both a gear drive and hydrostatic tractor in the 25-26 hp range. I can <br>stall the engine on my gear tractor working the bucket into a pile of dirt, but <br>not as easy I could stall my old hydro tractor. I was told by tractor dealer that<br>the application of forward pedal on the transmission along with working the loader<br>at the same time was just more than the tractor could handle. That is not to say <br>you are going to stall the engine everytime. After having both I will not have<br>a loader tractor with hydrostatic transmission. One other gripe I have is with<br>New Holland and Cub Cadet. Why in the world did they put the brake pedals on the <br>same side as the Hydro pedal? John Deere had this figured out a long time ago. <br>You can't hold the pedal down and use your turning brakes at the same time. Or<br>at least you can't do it without it being really awkward. My former JD 855 had the<br>forward/reverse pedals on the right side with a master brake pedal over them. <br>That pedal was to stop the tractor. On the left side the separate right left pedals<br>were located so that you could use the brakes to pivot turn.

It is kind of hard to put a price on one that I haven't seen or had for sale<br>myself. I can give you something to compare to though. I Have a Hinomoto E2304<br>(cross over to Massey 1030) 26 hp 4WD with 1900 hours for $4500. You would be <br>better off to get a Hinomoto 1804 or 204 because they cross over to a Massey 1020.<br>The 2004 does not have an American cross over. The 2004 was built from '82 up<br>at least '87. As for front bearings on the Japanese compacts, when I replace them in the tractors I<br>sell, I replace them with seal bearings so they are maintenance free. If you are<br>looking for a good tractor, I have a Hinomoto E2304, (Same as Massey 1030)it is a <br>26 horsepower, 4WD. Parts are easy to get if you have a Massey dealer nearby. <br>Price is $5000.<br>Brent Pepper

If you want to get roots and all, back up to the tree with a landscape box <br>lowered all the way to the ground. Ease the back edge of the LS box into the tree<br>and at the same time raise the box up. You will easily pop 2-3

Got a 1925 last May. Only trouble was a recall for a possible loose steering wheel nut. NH had dealer come out, apply a locking compound and torque to a certain tolerance. Was handled free of charge. So far, about 25 hours trouble free.

An 855 will handle it. If you are worried about premature wear think about this.<br>How often will you use the tiller? Once a year to till your garden? Maybe again <br>in the fall to till under your garden? Or do you plan on going in to the garden <br>tilling business and putting about 500 hours a summer on the tiller and tractor?<br>I think you will be OK with the 5 footer.<br>Brent

I bought a NH 1925 Boomer last May. Could have saved well over a $1,000, plus no 6.5% sales tax by buying at Ritchie Tractor, instead of one of many local dealers in the Twin Cities area. Local service was the main point for me in dealing locally, espcaially with a major purchase. The Boomer was recalled two months ago for a minor problem, NH communication said that local dealer would fix, but that there may be a mileage charge for their mechanics (dealer is over 40 miles away). Dealer corrected the problem, at my convenience with no charge whatsoever. What is your time worth if there is a problem? I was told by another small equipment dealer (that does not sell compacts) prior to my making the decision that it is getting increasingly difficult (but not impossible) to get warranty service from a non-selling dealer. Anyway, something to think about. Don't want to make a $14,000+ mistake.
