I too am in debt to this board -- I would have thought the scuffing normal with the tractor had not it been for the comments here. As a result, JD & the dealer are providing me with a new tractor! (The current 4400 is 6mos. old) Do you think I would even consider any other make than a JD? Also, told anyone I come in contact with what a great company who stands behind their product will do. I've been the best ad that company has!!! And, the dealer too, deserves a lot of credit for going to bat for me. IMHO, John Deere will take care of the problem if the dealer works for (with) you. unless the diode's under the flywheel are burned out from welding on the frame it has to be the ignition switch.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks for all the input. The problem turned out to be simple (as usual) just overlooked. I dropped the carb bowl, and noticed that the fuel flow with the float and needle out was slower than normal. further inspection found the fuel filter screeen inside the fuel inlet elbow was clogged up and simply starving the machine for fuel.

I don't think it's particularly focussed on purchasing issues, but it's there. Unlike here, the forums at @agriculture aren't very conservation oriented. All responses tend to come in the first day or so. There is some expertise among participants there. However, again unlike here, some responses can be somewhat abusive or a little nutty.

Possible problems are power hop and drive train damage. You should calculate the amount of mismatch to determine if there is a problem. There are several good discussions since last summer on how to do these calculations. You should be able to find them in the archives here and possibly on tractorbynet.

Does anyone out there use a JD 790 in their business. I want to start a business and do lawn aeration, seeding, finish mowing and brush mowing. Does anyone out there do this? If you do how do you trailer the tractor? How much do you charge, how did you get your business started? Where I live suburban Kansas City there seems to be a market for this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd like to here some feed back on the BX2200. I was close to buying a JD4100 because of how well my 1987 JD165 has served me for the last 13 years. I,m building on 3 acres and need a bigger machine. Mostly mowing, after box grading and raking. Also some moving of dirt with the loader and some tree dragging. The price of the 2200 has me ready to purchase. I've found some discusion about the 3 pt. hitch and a lot about the cup holder. I'd like to know how well the tractor works.

Cutter, sorry to read of your TC29 problems! I have the TC29D, and it is GREAT. Other than road dust, I received it in mint condition & it runs like a top. Like Kruser, I love the way all the controls are so easy to reach & operate, the seat is super & the floor board is so roomy. I'll leave tools on the floor board while moving from project to project, and they stay there. You must have a very poor dealer to sell you a tractor in such shape, and not stand behind it. Was it new or used? Donald

heard from my dealer today and he advised that the factory is shipping the front end and pump, necessary parts. I restore tractors and do major work and advised him I would take care of installing. I've got a good dealer and have spent a lot of money with him. Have helped him out in the past. I believe this is a factory situation as he said he had to talk to them wasn't a recall type situation. The axle is supported by 8 bolts and the new setup bolts in same place with the line hook up in the same area. He said it was coming as an assembly. Guess it is off the assy line. Dana supplies all these units. Will keep posts as progress continues. May have in a few days.

Why do 5 year old 955's with loaders sell for more than 1-2 year old 4200's? Same features, 4WD, hydro, hours, PTO's, tires, etc. What am I missing about the two machines? The more I look at what to buy the more confusing it gets!

How does that price compare to a comperable JD or Kubota? Around here, it would be a saving of a few thousand - at least. See what I mean about Massey? Dandy tractors, known to be reliable, proud old American brand name....and all that stuff....And even here on the Compact Tractor Board there just isn't much interest. Do you think it really could be those wheels? What did you think of the overall look of the tractor? I'm thinking it has to be something with the aesthetics.

As a tractor dealer this clearly looks like a case of overheating to me. Overheating a diesel will very often cause RPMs to drop. Water in the fuel no way. A tractor that is worked hard for a period and then backed off should quickly (5-10) minutes recover to normal temperature levels. If this doesn't happen the cooling system is compromised in some way. Plugged radiator either internal or external, blown head gasket, or a cracked head. Loader work and box blade work generally provides very little load so will not generate excessive engine heat. A Bush Hog or Finish mower in tall grass in a high gear is a good way to load a compact for a period of time if a tractor dyno is not available. You need to get to the bottom of this before the weather gets real hot.

Thanks for the info. Could you educate me a little more? What is a moldboard plow, a cultivator plow, 6 field sweeps, and a double buster? I grew up on a farm and we had a plow, a disk, a drag, and cultivators. I've heard of some of those things you mentioned, but don't know what they are. Thanks.

I'm plannng to buy a 30HP 4WD compact diesel tractor and use it primarily for finish mowing, so I'm getting the turf tires. I also plan to use it for gardening and am wondering what kind of garden implements others are using on their compact diesels. Do any of you folks use plows, subsoilers, disks, tillers, etc? If so, what size and how much weight do you need to add to the tractor? Since I'll have the turf tires, I'm planning to get chains for doing the plowing and/or subsoiling, has anybody tried this? Thanks.<br>

T.Thomas...I've done extensive research on the big three. JD790,4300,4400. Kubota and NH. I've purchased a NH-TC33D with 7308 loader and 757C backhoe for $23,600 plus tax. I found the NH's were the best value for the buck all around. Their new desidn will hold value for quite some time. All specs. are close to the JD 4400, for aprox $3,000 less.

Thanks for the reply. You were right, the TC25 is plenty strong. The TC33 was not available so I went back to the dealer and hooked the TC25 up to a heavy duty set of disk and went down the road to a field to test them out. I buried the disks up to their axles in some loam. I put it in 4wd and it pulled them fine. The tractor is sitting in my garage right now! Can't wait to get home and get some hours on her.
