Have only seen pictures of the Rotary Broom. Can you describe how you attach the float springs? My biggest problem when mowing on uneven slopes has to do with the mower being pushed into the uneven terrain. Lifting the mower to take off some down pressure makes it much easier to turn and steer the tractor.

I run duals all the time on my Steiner 430 Max. If you have to trench while backing up a hill, the rear tires will sometimes slip while weight from the trencher transfers to the front. The duals really help provide additional pulling power. Also, if you have to cross a spot where two trenches intersect, a single wheel will sometines fall in and the tractor will not pull itself out. Also, mowing with the contour of a hill will cause the front end of the tractor to creep downhill because of the weight of the mower deck. Duals prevent a lot of this, especially if you have to carry part of the deck's weight with the hitch. Duals will not change the articulated tractors turning radius as would happen with a solid frame. As for engine speed - I run my 25hp Kohler at 3,500/3,600 rpm all the time. This is not for power but rather to take care of the hydraulic system. A Steiner mechanic will tell you to keep the rpm's up, even if ground speed is low, and this is to avoid burning up the hyeraulics. I just let the engine have a lot of time at idle to cool down. My stump grinder has a 23hp Kohler industrial engine and it idles a lot to cool down as the hydraulics get red hot after an hour or so of steady grinding. That and frequent oil and filter changes are the best thing you can do for a small engine - in my opinion. Does anyone know where to get Steiner belts and blades at a good price? I have been able to cross reference some items but others are still a mystery. Love and machine but hate the dealer mark up on consumables.

I tried a 4300 john deere with a 60" belley mower. The mid pto went out at 9 hours. The engauge lever for the pto is hard to operate (not the mid pto knob) and the lever to lift the mower sticks. The tractor had a 430 loader. With the seat all the way forward you could not roll the bucket on the loader back. The lever hit the seat. The local dealers never seeme to have much information on belley mowers on this size tractor. I guess most belley mowers are sold on smaller teactors. Does anyone have information on these items?

THE PEDALS ON THE 4300 JOHN DEERE HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION ARE HARD TO PUSH IT. THE REVERSE PEDEL IS THE WORST ONE. I THINK THE ANGLE MAKES IT EASY TO HAVE YOUR FOOT SLIP OFF. HAS ANYONE FOUND A CURE FOR THIS? DO THEY GET ANY EASIER AS THE TRACTOR GETS OLDER?

I am looking at buying a small tractor with loader and finish mower for use on my yard and pasture. At the moment, I have one acre of yard and five acres of Argentine Bahia pasture. I live in S. Fla and have mostly sandy soil. I also have horses and need a loader for the manure pit, as well as for clearing scrubb from another two acres. I have about $6000-7000 to spend for a used tractor. Is this a reasonable amount, and how "used" is "too used"? How many engine hours are too many and how much does the age of the machine matter if it looks to be in good condition. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. <br>Thanks

Out here in southern california you see water jugs on a lot of tractors but the operator has to use some commonsence about when to take a drink. Personnaly I would not use a machine that I could not keep my water close by. You can make cup holders out of PVC pipe or you can go to a boat store and get some real nice ones that will not spill your drink even if you have to use the ROPS.

I would also like to see a copy of this report. Is there any other specifcations that are used in the rest of the world? The information that I have on three point specifications states that Cat 0 is for less that 20 HP and Cat 1 is for 20-45 HP. The BX is rated at 18 or 22 HP depending on the version. But I have seen this type of hybrid hitch on other compact tractors in the past. Please Post this report or provide a link to a site were I can read it.

Here in california we just call Dig-Alert and they will come out and mark the utilities that are of record but they cannot mark the 12" irrigation lines or sprinkler lines that are are my property so I have to be carefull when I do any excavation

It does get a little tedious when trenching that long a run and your arm can get sore for sure. I have a 60" deck, trencher, slip scoop and 5' angle blade along with a front mount "A" frame trailer hitch that is great for jockeying several trailers around without having to hitch them to the truck. I've wondered about the power box rake and the auger - been told that both work well but haven't tried them yet. Have heard that the arm mower isn't worth having. Saw the new rough cut mower demo'd and wasn't too impressed. The knives seem too light and don't have enough momentum to really work like I think they should. Steiner sure is proud of the attachments - some of the prices seem way out of line for what you get. Would like to find a dealer that will discount some of their items.

I have a Kubota L3010 with approximately 45 hours on it. Its primary current use is blowing snow with a five foot blower, and moving snow with the loader. I noticed what appeared to be something leaking on the snow. I checked all fluid levels, and hoses for leaks. None that I could find, and the fluid levels were fine. But, I notice that my loader doesn't seem to have as much power as before. I can't lift my front wheels off the ground when I press the loader against the ground, something I could do earlier. Any suggestions? Thanks.

How do I remove ivy that has been growing in an area for many years with out disturbing the irrigation lines that are under it. The ivy has very heavy roots about 1" dia and the area is only about 35 feet wide and 100 feet long. there are also several trees in this area that are to remain. doing it by had is not fun. any ideas?

Mike, I don't have an air compressor, but have thought that one would be great to have for years. And with these conversations, I think I will finally get one.

One thing though I did not know the difference between Oil and Oil-less. I checked out Campbell-hausfled's site last night and the offer both types.

Is Campbell-hausfeld an OK brand to buy?

My opinion is that I am sure that Kubota has done a top notch job here, and that the 4wd will certainly make it the best machine to buy over a garden tractor, I still think any compact buyer would be better off spending their money on the larger B series machines or any other color Compact rather than the subcompact. The fact is that people buy these machines and have an expectation that if they need to rent a tiller or harley rake or overseeder or some other very heavy implement that their huge investment will handle it. I think the BX will fall way short in this regard. But if you have no such intention then I think you will be happy with the BX as the Cadillac of GT genre, used for mowing and general promenading around the neighborhood.
