I've got a Yanmar YM155D --the 1st/reverse gear on the transmission croked (1st/reverse gear 14T #194340-25530) ...found a dealer in MS who gave me a good price and ordered the part...the part arrived but the ID (inside diameter) of the gear has not be machined...the race which the gear glides on won't fit inside the gear...so, sent it back to the dealer, subsequently the dealer sent it back to Yanmar...they sent out a new gear --WITH THE SAME PROBLEM !! Long story short --this has been going on since May, 2003 and Yanmar (as told by the dealer) is unwilling to rectify the problem. So, here I am waiting and woundering if Yanmar is worth all the hassel? The big question is "am I the only one with this same experience working with Yanmar".

No experience with Yanmar parts myself nor do I know the TX. I'm wondering if there's a chance that the gear is intended to be shrink fit onto the race I guess it's a compound bearing and it would be the outside of the outer race that is maybe recessed into the gear. Granted it's a stretch of an idea. I haven't seen anything like that in the TX's I've been into, but it's just a thought. A manual should mention such a procedure if that's the case. If so, the original one might have been loose due to the cracked gear.

Another possibility is that the bearing race has a spur on it due to the original damage. Unfortunately the more likely possibility is that Yanmar has a new OEM supplier and the gears aren't exact replacements.

Yanmar parts are normally very accurate in their dimensions. Perhaps the part has to be pressed on.
Of course it is possible that a part was made wrong, but two?? Take a Micrometer and measure the I.D. of the part, then measure the O.D. of the race it goes into, if they are close, then it is a press fit. If they are not close, have the gear machined out, it will be faster than re-ordering again. Gary J. ....

Take the gear to your local machine shop. They will know if the I.D. is right for a pressed-on fit. If it is not they will be able to machine to the right ID for your shaft. They can also broach a keyway if need be.

Good luck

I just looked in the YM155D Parts Manual, Yanmar made two different gears for 1st/rev. If your s/n is before 51000, then it calls for part no. 194200-25530. ....

Good info, and that's the second reason why I have a parts manual. The first reason is for the exploded diagrams. There are all sorts of notes in my Ford manual about part differences before and after production upgrades or for models marketed if different regions. My manual is hard copy and may be a bit out of date but a dealer's shouldn't be.

There's a good chance that's the problem, but you'd also think that a parts guy would have noticed several dated entries in the manual and would have asked for the tractor's serial number.

Fredricks Imports in Alabama

Hoye Tractor in Texas

These 2 places would be your 1st go to as both have new and used OE parts. With the used parts, many come from low hour machines only brought from Japan, not Vietnam.

There is a place in IL called Schafers too. Not sure how much inventory they carry.

The YM155 has the 2TR13A engine that shares many parts with the Yanmar gray market machines. So, you are in good shape with the above dealers and refurbished equipment vendors.

If you need engine rebuilding and such, Weavers' and Stevens Tractor is a good place to start. Also, Southern Global is there too, but they are a bit pricey.

Over on the Yanmar GIO member site, our archives has folks who have swapped gears out and with photos. At the moment, we are moving from Yahoo Groups to GroupsIO. You will need a hydraulic press or find a local shop to work with in your area. Not really a hard job, just takes some time like most things do.

I have the service parts manual as well in PDF should you need that too. ....

I notice the parts manual shows two different part numbers for the gear in question. Are you sure you ordered the correct one? I am not computer savvy enough to post the page but the two part numbers are 194340-25530 (gear 14/14,reverse) and 194200-25530 (gear 13/18, reverse). ....
