Its probably better to ask before buying. After I buy, I stop comparing prices to stay happy.

The TC30 is an entry level tractor like the JD790. Both are built with good components but with more effort to control costs. On the TC30 you will see the painted metal used in place of the molded reinforced plastic on the others in the TC line. These are both well built and good performing machines, but they are not as fancy as the rest of the lines for either manufacturer.

I am not certain, but I suspect that the TC30 engine is the same as the TC29, but tested at a different RPM or power setting to rate 30 rather than 29 HP.

The 9X3 tranny is non synchro, so you have to stop to change gears. This is not terrible, and used to be standard on all tractors. You will notice this most when you are in road gear and have to start out from a standing stop in high gear. Just put the fuel to it and go.

When I first started looking at tractors again after many years, I was at first caught by the ad for the TC30. But, I liked the visibility much better on the TC29. After that decision was made, I selected a frame size based on what I wanted to do with a FEL, and this put me into the next larger frame size. In the end, I bought a TC45 for a number of other reasons. I shopped for both green and blue machines and bought blue because of better features for less price.

The TC30 and JD790 are both supposed to be priced for about a 10K magic entry price. I am sure that the price varies and the taxes certainly do. Your price is in the ballpark. ....

I have a 2002 TC33D with industrial tires and supersteer. On the Ford A-plan discount I paid $13,500 out the door with 6% sales tax.

I'm a residential excavating/landscaping contractor and for what I do the 33D is the perfect size. However, if I did any larger work I would have gotten the TC40 or 45. And I'd need a longer trailer--the 33D with a brushhog or power rake JUST fits on a 15' trailer. ....

Not to mention the other problem with the 790. Dry brakes in a wet environment. ....
