Have a john deere 790 that runs very well when in neutral.
It dies when put in gear. Does any one know why? Potential cause could be a safety factor built in to tractor. The fuel gauge is not operational and it does not want you to run out of fuel when in field is a guess. Have adequate fuel. Otherwise the tractor appears to be find. Also have a problem with the PTO shaft but just want to deal with one problem at a time.

New to this board and unfamiliar with its operation and exactly how it functions.

Ken Thanks

Replies should be posted on the TP site. You will get an email to alert you when someone replies to your post.

When in neutral you can move the throttle through from idle to PTO speed and it is fine?

If yes I think you need to temporarily locate and bypass each safety switch. I would check the under seat one first.

Thanks for joining TP !

Your seat safety is probably the problem...also, make sure the plunger under the seat is making contact when you are seated ....

Rearranged the 'safety device' under the seat and everything seems to be working properly. Am not a full time tractor man and there are numerous safety features and believe that they at times can be almost anti-safety. Thanks Ken ....

Paul, You were correct that the safety functions were the primary cause of the problem which I hope is resolved. Plan to use the tractor and mower tomorrow to sort of 'lower the weeds'. ....
