Go BottomMF 1040 4WD wont Engage

The 4WD on this tractor worked well in the past, but now I feel no gear movement or engaging when I push the lever down. Is there some trick to this?

Have no idea what the system to engage your four wheel looks like but should be very simple.
If it has worked fine and you are the only operator you should know if something major failed so probably can feel safe it is minor.
Look at the linkage, if you can have someone work it while you look under the tractor to be sure it is moving and no missing pin or such.
Look for bent linkage.
Lube the linkage.
Be sure no sticks or such have gotten jammed in the linkage binding it.
Look and be sure nothing is wrong with the front axle drive shaft is good and connected on both ends.
Have you gotten on soft dirt with pulling something to be sure the front wheel drive is not engaging?

The linkage off the handle goes straight into the side of the gearbox so I cant tell what's happening after that.
I was wondering if there is some trick to it, like going in reverse in a certain gear, etc. ....

Have someone work the lever and you watch to see if it rotates the rod for there is a pin or set screw there that could be loose or missing or broken. ....

Not that this will help fix your rig. At least you don't have my problem. The 4WD in my 1120 doesn't work because it came from the factory with the wrong front drive shaft (3/4 inch too short). Previous owner stripped out the yoke. ....

Thanks for the suggestions. Turns out that my front drive shaft had broken. All fixed now, and replaced the clutch. ....
