Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and was needing some information on my 5040 if you can help.

Our 5040 started whining a few years ago. It gets pretty loud when running at higher rpm's. We did an oil and filter change when we noticed several ball bearings (4+) in the hydraulic filter. I cannot explain how they got in there or where it came from at this point. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas?

We was hoping that the new oil and filter would quite the tractor down to some extent but no luck. I am wondering if the ball bearing might be connected to the whining noise?

The history of the tractor is it was purchased new and used for about 4 years on our golf course, when we had an hydraulic oil leak from the rear hose hookups. I think one of my workers ended up running it short on oil at some point and then added regular hydraulic fleet oil. this seems to be around the time the noise started.

Drain and refill it with Kubota's UDT. Use the tractor for a few hours and call the dealer. The bearing is on a constant run shaft for it to make noise all the time. The drive train is covered for three years.

We did drain all of the oil and installed the Kubota oil as well as filter.

As far as the hose issue. it only leaked from the quick connect. it was never opened for contamination.

I would still love to know where the ball bearings come from. We have looked at all of the parts breakdowns and I cannot see how bearings could of migrated into the hyd. oil filter. Any ideas? ....

I think Art has said where he thinks, the bears on a shaft in the transmission. As a owner of a model near this one and who missed his fluid was low, will tell you that is what my tractor did and what was found when broken down. Parts are not too bad if bearing are all to replace, it is the work to replace them. I would want it fixed asap for shafts running with no bearings is not good. kt ....

A thought hit me, take the bearings you have there to the Kubota shop and ask them to pull a bearing off the shelf (assume they will have them) and see if they don't look the same size. kt ....

I wish this was a possibility. My mechanic thinks the filter was tossed out during the summer.
I agree with having a bearing shot and running it will destroy a shaft and possibly even more in the transmission.
