I have two or three PTO pumps that thought would rebuild. Have been told toss them by two shops that sell them. They are Hypo cast iron. First one took apart and see no signs of wear in housing. Then find out repair kits often or maybe never have bearings and some don't have shaft seals in them. These are roller pumps with cost little over $100 to $130 depending on where you buy them. Repair parts for rollers, bearings and seals will be $50 or slightly more. Looking for experience and thoughts on repair or not. KT

KT,

If you're willing to take the time and spend a few dollars on parts, you'll gain a huge amount of actual hands-on experience with the pump. (or even a chainsaw) The experience, alone, is worth a whole lot to a guy like me, because I have no access to a repair shop within 120 miles of me.

The way I look at projects of this sort is that if you were to take a class on rebuilding a pump, you'd pay a great deal of money for the training.......but spending a few rainy days in the shop.....even if you fail......is worth SOMETHING.

My theory is DIG IN. You won't hurt a thing by trying. Youtube has some of the best teachers in the world.....and it's all free.

Joel, I like mechanical stuff! In my heart I think if a man made it this one can tear it apart and sometimes ever put it back together. Often it works when I do. I like your attitude and really admire what you face. My wife and I were just talking about the 7 mile drive to get a tire tube and how we had to plan that! For you that is about the walk from house to shop, lol.

Hey, how is the weather there? I was talking with a company rep in Minnesota just now and it was snowing on April the 25th.

Joel I don't think you realize how much you help so many with the advice you give us. Have me and I thank you. kt

KT,

The weather here is much like winter. We've had some rain and snow, with temps in the low 40s. More cold rains on the way, with temps below freezing through much of the upcoming week. Winter isn't over yet......which is normal for these parts.

Somebody asked me how far it is to the nearest Burger King from my place. It's 120 miles. McDonalds is only 40 miles...and there isn't a traffic light between here and there. If I want to go to a Costco, it's over 200 miles.

We're located 35 miles south of the Canadian border, about halfway between Minot and Grand Forks. My parents live 140 northwest of me. It takes two hours to get there, but there isn't a traffic light on the entire trip.

I try to help when I can, KT. Growing up on a farm for most of my life helps a whole lot. On the other hand, it's always great spending time on this site, because I get a chance to see how things are done by folks who have faced certain problems a whole lot more often than I have.

Joel ....

Joel I grew up about 5 miles from town but that was a major trip back then. Today live a little further out and think nothing of running there for lunch and back for supper. None of that would have happened in my growing up days nor when first married. Boy have things changed. Some for the better but not all.

We did plan ever trip to town for it you forgot or missed something it was normally next week to get it. That was not all bad.

Then ordering parts or supplies was a great way to buy and then wait for the delivery. Funny it is now gone back to that with ordering often off line and getting part of what you need the next day and lords knows when the rest will show up. LOL

Show conversation about John Wayne on cable the other day and it was told her grew up with Sears and other catalogs and still like to order from there all his life.

I have always found could gather more information from catalogs or on line than in most stores. Clerks often do good to know where it is in stores today and then to tell you what store does have it in stock. But no idea on fit or operation. Have second electronic motion sensor (indoor light) to return to Lowes within two weeks. It came packaged with wrong label and then does not work with timer or light sensor dependably. In the good old days of 14 years ago put in first one and set it simply and it lasted and lasted and now price is over twice, more like three times that switch and a piece of China failure. But Cooper is not the only USA company to do that, sadly.
I agree on enjoying reading about how others find and handle the situations there. kt
