Is it a hyd steering unit or is their mechanical linkage also? If a hyd unit you may find an off the shelf unit that will fit it. ....

we took unit off, inspected it, it looks ok, dust seal and o-ring in top appear ok maybe a little worn. we tried to get seal and o-ring from dealer and hyd. shop no luck. unit is made by eaton. next shot is to run search on numbers on internet. I wonder if running a pressure test on unit will show the problem, but I do not know what it should read. I will have to have dealer do this or hyd. shop. hyd. shop said not to pull center shaft up or it will get out of time and he could not time it. Mainly searching to see if someone out there has had same problem. thanks for replys ....

Wish I could help, esp as I'm interested in a Kioti but leary of them. For what it's worth,

It's easier and more profitable to replace rather than repair. And repair parts may not be in the dealer manual, but you might phone or email another dealer to be sure.

All hydraulics shops would be able to pressurize the system; few tractor dealers would.

Try Eaton itself.

If you were able to remove the unit, with a bit more work you might be able to connect the system so as to bypass it. Then, until this is sorted out, you'd have a manual-steering but working tractor.

Keep us posted. ....

I am having the same problem with my DK45. It is not pouring but it exits below the wheel at the bearing and dust seal. I am assuming the seal at the output shaft inside the pumb is allowing the fluid to rise in the column and ease out directly under the steering wheel. I have been told the new replacment is $1400.00.

I there any way to have it repaired.. may just be that one seal. Steering is working fine.

Help.
Hollis ....

hi, the kioti belongs to my neighbor. he took the steering control box to a hyd repair shop. fixed for $100.00. the first shop said no because they could not time the input shaft. the second said no problem. you may have to check with a few shops. we think his was due to the tractor sitting outside on dealer lot and rain running down steering shaft. it went out just after warntty went out. hopr this helps. ....

Thanks for the info...

I will be removing the steering valve assembly tomorrow. I found a HYDRO shop highly reccommended approx. 80 miles from here in Pearl, MS.

I sent photos of the whole system, and they feel they can replace seal in top of valve system... must go in from the inside. Hopefully that will do the trick since my tractor is steering fine at this point.

Leaks always get worse, not the same, and certainly not less. Once they break it apart, there will be no charge if they can not repair it... then to some other shop I guess.

Hollis ....

I know I'm way to late to reply, but for other owners: The steering control unit on the DK35 and DK40 is a very slightly modified Eaton Char-Lynn Type 10. The main shaft seal on my DK40 was a single lip u-cup and measured 25 mm x 35 mm x 5 mm and is available on-line for about $3.00-4.00.

Even a whole bolt on replacement unit should only cost about $350.00 and is readily available, so don't get fooled by all the prices you are quoted.

As far as stripping the unit, if you can unscrew a bolt you are halfway there. If you can screw one back up and have a torque-wrench you are the rest of the way there.

I am posting this as I was also given a ridiculous run around about availability and repair cost.

Total cost of repair: $40 ( I replaced all the rest of the seals as well using a standard kit )

Total time involved ( after the run around ) : 1 hr. ....
