I have been a Benz owner only a short time, but am having a problem. I have a W-203 2003 C240 base with the bi-xenon headlights. The problem is that the drivers side (left side...I live in the US) works intermittently. When it is cold out, it doesn't work. when it warms up, the light will suddenly pop on. I had the xenon bulb changed, but that did not solve the problem. A local service shop tells me I need to replace the entire light unit at a cost of around $1400 US....which seems ridiculous, though I new going in that M-B's were expensive to maintain and repair.

It's not the bulb, it's the ballast, they run one sort of like a fluorescent light does.
When it's getting near the end of it's life it doesn't light up the bulb when it's cold outside, after it heats up, whether from being on, or from the engine warming it, it works. Till it overheats that is, then it goes back out.
They're not more than a few hundred bucks used, in fact I have a spare you can have cheap if it is interchangeable for your car, I'll look it up and see.
Best of luck. ....

Yup, ballast would be my first guess too. Have you considered the do-it-yourself approach? See http://www.ebay.com/itm/2003-2007-MERCEDES-C-CLASS-DRIVER-XENON-HEADLIGHT-OEM-8-/330605813214?vxp=mtr
