Hi i have a 7308 loader on my 1320 ford tractor. the problem i am having is that the loader goes up on its own. I took the cover of it and could see nothing disattached. Would the rubber boot that goes over the arm make a differnce? help, thank you randy

Randy;

The rubber boot you speak of, does it fit over the control lever? If so perhaps the boot is holding the lever in the a bit in up position instead of letting it go completely back to neutral. Maybe leave the rubber boot off and see how it works.

I'm thinking that you have a joystick valve and the linkage to the spool valve has gotten out of adjustment.

Otherwise if it is a twin lever depending on the linkage it still might go back to adjustment or a bad spool valve. ....

Buford1972,

How long has it been since the last hydraulic fluid change?

We recently had some -30 degree weather here. All kinds of bad things happen at those temperatures. I've been busy as heck trying to keep up.

I'm thinking you probably have some ice forming inside the loader's spool valve. If so, this is likely due to condensation. A small amount of moisture is always present in the hydraulic fluid. When it gets really cold, that small amount of moisture can cause all kinds of trouble for a guy.

If it's been more than a year since the last hydraulic fluid change, I'd consider changing it.

Get the tractor inside in a warm shop for about 24 hours. Run the tractor and get it warmed up good before draining the hydraulic fluid. If the loader problem disappears after warming the tractor in the shop, you can almost bet that the problem is due to moisture in the hydraulic oil.

Hope that helps.

Joel ....
