I installed the mulching plates on my 60mmm side discharge deck, now when I use it everything blows out the front. It's like driving through a cloud of grass, dust and anything else I try to chop. I also have a JD GT235 with mulching kit and nothing comes out the front of it. Took it off the New Holland. Any ideas why it's doing that.

I'm not a big fan of mulch kits in the first place, but....

If the clippings and such are blowing out the front the way you describe I'd be checking that the deck is set up right, it sounds like the front is too high. All things being equal, the front is the last place it should come out. Since the area to one side and the rear is already cut it should be coming out that way first, not into the long grass ahead of the deck.

Best of luck. ....

The deck set up like the book says, front 1/8" lower than back. Tried to buy gator blades for it but was told they are not available for that deck. I guess I'll just keep letting it go out the chute, and use the John Deere for leafs. Thanks guys. ....

Harley, that is a problem with some deck designs. We do experiment some with modifying decks and the baffles to pick the air up differently to illeviate the problem if possible. How high do you mow? This is often the problem. Most mowers are designed to mow at heights in the three plus inch range for the health of the grass. When the decks are set at one to two inches we have seen this problem before. You have to much air contained under the deck with no place to go so it will blow out the front. ....

I cut @ 3 1/2", its really bad, the grills get plugged up have to stop or tractor overheats, tractor and operator covered with leafs or grass. I also have a John Deere GT235 with 48" deck (for sale now} with mulching kit and it has never done what the New Holland does. Thanks for your reply, any other suggestions? ....

Hey I wouldn't laugh at any help. The blades are on correctly flair is up. I just checked the deck adjustment and it's exactly like the book says. I have the front of the blades 1/8" lower than back, but I see on Massicks web site they say it should be 1/4" - 3/8" lower. Whats everyone setting theirs at? All I know is what the book says. Thanks for your input, it never hurts to double check the things you take for granted. ....

I've never had any luck mulching. Seems like I'm always trying to cut too much at a time. Could this be your problem? How about a slower ground speed? ....

My customer doesn't want it! I still have the vacuum! Anyone interested? ....
