I hope I don't sound like a complete nucklehead with this one. I bought a TC35D about 3 yrs. ago and have enjoyed it ever since and gotten alot of good work out of it. I now want to start cutting my own hay. I have a 10 ac. pasture with good coastal on it. What equipment i.e. cutter, rake, baler, can I use for my tractor. I've looked at several pieces of equipment and see that they require min. 35 hp PTO. Mine only puts out 29.6hp to PTO. Is the difference not that big of an issue or will I definitely need to trade it in for something bigger?

Don't feel bad about asking such questions. It's good to have these discussions.
The TC35 is a compact tractor. It has its place in the world. However, it was never meant to be an agriculture machine.
You're going to need a bigger machine. Even the smallest balers will require at least 40hp, with most requiring much more than that. More important, however, is the fact that most farm implements require at least one rear remote outlet, with most requiring at least two remote hyd. outlets. This is something the little TC35 was never meant for.
I believe you're going to need a TC55, or bigger, for the jobs you have planned. In fact, I'd place the TC55 at the bare minimum required.
The little Ford 9N was designed for this type of work, but back in those days most implements were ground-driven, with a chain running off a sprocket at one wheel on the implement.
You're going to have a very difficult time finding implements of that sort today, but more importantly, I don't believe you'd want them.

It ws a few years back when my family was still growing that we had some beefers to feed. I had a little IH 424 that was rated 35PTO horsepower but with a little work I had it turning 45 on the dyno and still burning clean. Through a bunch of trades I had a 9' mower and a older IH 430 baler as well as a rake and tedder. I was picking up a lot of acreage that nobody else wanted to work and for the first couple of years it was fun, then I was just borrowing our trade-ins to do the work. I was allowing the tech's to check out the used equipment on the fields I had donated to me for the hay. After I got my own machinery then I was having to fix it after work as well as the normal maintence. Turned into a chore big time! I was glad that we had stock piled enough hay in his barn for a couple of years as we moved to a different location and his life changed and we got out of the beef business. I sure was busy trying to save a few dollars and letting a lot more slip on the other side.
You could run some of the machinery needed at speeds well below where you might want to travel faster watching a farmer. For the ten acres I think you could spend a lot of time and money and not get to much in return but thats just my thoughts. ....

Following on Art's comments, I have been told here it takes at least 30 acres of hay to even begin to look at your own equipment and coastal bermuda grass hay here is baled at least twice per year and often four times. Have you considered just cutting the hay and raking it but having it baled by someone else? That is the option used here on smaller acreage normally. It seems the guys who do a lot of baling don't mind baling your hay as much if it is just to run baler to it as all the other equipment also. kt ....

That is a great idea KT...I was beginning to stress over the cost of having to get a bigger tractor on top of the haying equipment. I'll do some asking around because I think there are some fellas that do that sort of thing. Thanks! ....

TxFarm, did not see if you were selling the hay or using it yourself. If you are selling it, you may find someone who will bale it and buy it or using it yourself bale it for a share. Glad to help. kt ....

I have sortof a coop with my neighbors. I have a new tractor and each fall I do all the plowing now. In return one of my neighbors loans me his baler and swather whenever I need it. Between the three of us on this road we have everything we need. It works out really nice. Just a couple weeks ago I finally broke down and bought a new tractor so now it looks like I'm doing all the haying work myself too and they are buying about half the hay off my property and paying my gas to work theirs. I plan on buying my own discbine from new holland in the spring before I bale my alfalfa again and eventually my own baler but I got the new tractor first and made sure it was big enough to handle everything I need. I only have 25 acres here myself but I have 100 more somewhere else and work a total of 150 acres with it counting the neighbors. It's nice to have the cab and AC on this new one. An old minnie 4 star was my main tractor till about 2 weeks ago. ....
