What is considered new? I recently did some research for a new tractor and decided to replace my 950. I bought a 3320,300X loader, and a Woods bush hog. After trying out the cutter and bucket I took the machine in to clean and noticed traces of rust on some of the engine and frame area( and transmission cooler). I researched the serial number and found out the tractor had been built in Oct. 2005. I told the dealer to take the tractor back since he assured me when I bought it, it was an 2007. He took it back and said when he gets a tractor from JD he could not assure of the year of manufacture. Sounds like BS to me. Why would I pay for something new that is already 2 yrs. old? This year of manufacture was not disclosed when we were negotiating the price.Any feedback? Thanks.

How many hours were on it when you bought it? Light surface rust is fairly common since dealers store the equipment out in the open. Tractors don't have model years, so a tractor can probably be considered new if it hasn't been sold before and has very low hours. Auto dealers do the same thing. You can buy a "new" car that has been on the lot since the start of the model year. Since auto model years are only 12 months it's obvious when it is no longer a current model. ....

3 1/2 hrs. on the tractor. My feeling is that the tractor should have been considered a left over and further discounted. When I called the JD main number for the serial number lookup, they called the tractor an 05. I think to call something new that was made 18 -19 months ago is a stretch. Thanks for the reply. ....
