Has anyone added a 220 volt line to their garage from the basement. I have a 70 foot run to my plug location. The welder calls for 200-230volts 22amps input and a 40 amp super lag breaker. It is a Lincoln 1 70 t. MIG

Can I just add a 220 circuit, run the wire . (prob 8ga 3 wire) and connect the plug.

I will have a licensed electrician inspect for safety. I am just trying to get what I can do done.

The first project is a top lip reinforcement for the B7510.

Thanks to all!
Merry Christmas to all!

Roy

I ran a 100 amp ciruit to the barn and then have a second box. I think I am 0 gauge. At 70 ft I think I would go with a little heavier gauge. There are tables available. I used them a couple of times when building as I needed temp. wire for the house and trailer. Hopefully someone has them available on the board or you can look them up to check. ....

#8 is the required minimum wire size for a 40A breaker (per the NEC). No derating would be required for a 70' run.
