my 790 has 25 at the pto and handles 72(6ft) easy (rear discharge)I would say 84 would be tops (rear discharge)as long as the blades were sharp and it is grass and not hay.
I can not give any information on side discharge mowers they require more hp due to the clippings being pushed through the one side of the mower. ....

I am not sure I would go any wider than 72" unless it is a gang mower. You will not get a very good cut unless it is green smooth. Kubota does not recommend their mowers any larger than 72".
....

If you are cutting suburban turf lawn grass at a reasonable growth, a 72 inch mower would do well. If you are cutting pasture or fields with any significant degree of growth, go with the 60 inch mower. I finish mower draws more pto hp and is not a high inertia type cutter like a rotary cutter is and you would bog down in thicker grass with the 72 inch mower. ....
