Reminder to also keep and eye out for depressions in the ground. You can really get surprised if a front wheel drops into a depression regardless of how low the loader is.

Sarge: I'm sorry for your problems with your dealer. It can be frustrating at times. Maybe each time you talk to them ask for their work-order number because you "need it for your records to log the call." At least then they will have to open up some screen on the computer, maybe they'll write in your requests. I've used this before with some success.

Opposite to Harvey's idea, my experience with the large ag dealers (in my area) was if you weren't spending $250K you weren't worth their time. Smaller equipment dealers are more likely to help the little guys because that is their market.

Been on the road for a couple of days, hense a late reply.
Yes I do have a front end loader and usually have a tiller mounted to add rear wheel weight. I also have the tires loaded.
Guess the problem is related to the territory I live in. Basically in S. Eastern Ohio there just isn't any flat land.
A friend of mine with turf tires on an older, small kubota, resorted to chains on the front tires. Seems to work ok for him. As stated, My 2910 has almost no clearance between the tire and steering link. Just wondered if anyone had any simple solutions or suggestions.

My 2nd year mechanical engineering student son has decided to try to develop a computer model for determining tractor stabilty on a slope. The variables are L; rear wheel spread, RW; rear wheel weight, and the slope angle, for a given tractor configuration. We will ignore the effects of the pivoting front axle for now.

This things takes on a whole new life when the kids get involved.

From my viewpoint, I wouldn't purchase a CUT with less than 27HP. Mine is 27 and on occasion wish it were 30-35HP. I like the larger size frame with more weight to do the grunt work. For mowing, I mostly use garden tractors. I just picked-up another used one for $1,100.00 with 50" deck. I have a 72"MMM for my CUT and took it off once and never put it back on. Conversely, I've never taken my loader off. It is the most valuable asset. I don't mow that many larger open areas and by the time I use a smaller mower to edge it and go around trees, it takes longer than it is worth to bring out the big mower. If you are mowing larger areas, suggest a rear mower of 72". You don't need to justify anything, just do it!

Around the house, I like to bag my grass clippings and do so with a different garden tractor with 46" deck. It is hard/expensive to find baggers for larger size decks. I also mow ditch areas with almost 45� slope. I sit over the fender to balance it on a different "beater" garden tractor. Again, wouldn't do that with a CUT.

My circumstances may be different than yours but caution you are trying to do everything with one unit. Something must be sacrificed. I know there is a very large market for sub-compacts but it doesn't fit for me.

I'd suggest purchasing something slightly used. Let the other guy take the big hit. If you shop around a good deal should be out there somewhere.

You can use the chokers you have by making a loop on one end and clamping it with a cable clamp. Just leave the end hanging in place. I think you'll find you can skid a 12-15" diameter pine out full length, especially if you've limbed it. Last winter I yanked out plenty of spruce that size with limbs and tops attached, and my Kubota is about the same size as your JD.

TomRoberts: that sounds like a neat trailer, post some pictures if you have time. I've got a 25 ft. goose neck beavertail. It works nice with the tail up to haul really long things, and also works nice with the tail down and slide out ramps for loading. It would be nice if the beavertail were hydraulic rather than crank up, but I guess there is a fine line between what we really need and what we can afford. One of the neat things I've missed since we no longer have cattle is the smell of fresh alfalfa. Frank.

The "kit" is a better setup but you can put it back with the original setup as well. The improved version uses a new shaft that has a threaded end with a large nut and cotter pin instead of the 3/8" bolt. This is much stronger, but depending how much you use it and how hard you use it, it may not be neccasary. Most of our customers opt to put it back with the original style. This saves a lot on parts, but unfortunately, If they don't get lucky by fishing out the old washer and bolt head, you don't save alot of labor. We had one customer that decided to take his chances and leave the bolt and washer floating around. I don't recommend that because if they get picked up in the gears, it will cause major damage. I've never heard back from him though, so I assume it is still running. (that was a couple of years ago, but maybe he doesn't own it anymore) Basically, If you are not a commercial operator, I feel the improved kit is not neccasary, but you have to make your own decision. I hope I didn't confuse you.

Try a TDI VW. On my '01 Jetta TDI the glow light is on for maybe 5 sec on the coldest days. Always starts.

Make sure the fuel tank is venting properly. Try running it without the cap on and see if this improves the flow. If not, you have a fuel line blockage in the tank or the line.

If venting is the problem, replace the fuel cap, and try again.

Good advice Big Pete...in fact I'd have her cut n split a few cords a wood while your at it no sense in lettin her get away with this kind of thing there's just no tellin where it might lead...next thing you know she'll be down gettin her library card and then you'll be in some tall weeds for sure.

I agree, the ratings manufacturers give are almost meaningless in the real world. They are best used to compare one loader to another. My kubota's lifting capacity is 1625 pounds with forks, but I routinely lift pallets weighing over 3500 pounds and that is way past the hinge pins. Its tipping load is 3870 with forks and that is where I am at so I added additional counter weights I occasionally lift over 4000 lbs and it basically rides on the front wheels. Breakout strength has not been reached yet so the hydraulics keep going no matter what it is rated for.

You're welcome murf. As for the width of the box blade, the wider you go, the mroe material the blade can hold. I've got a 5 ft box blade that I use on my JD 4310. Wehn it's full of rock, I run the risk of bogging the machine down and spinning the tires. So that's another factor to consider. You don't have infinite traction.

After much deliberating, demoing, and unbiased consideration, I purchased a 4300 hst/ 430 loader with 299 hours on it. I have noticed from posts and dealers own mouths, that there can be some John Deere issues with this machine. Can anyone help me make a list of JD type problems and solutions so I can make a preemptive stike to prevent costly problems in the future. One I can remember is the in line filter for the 3 point lift. Thanks

The Bearcat 70554 I saw looked identical to the Woods 5000 to me. You would have to put them side by side to determine any differences and I think that they would be small. Weight specs would be something to look at.

I paid $2300 two years ago for my Woods 5000.

I have found that trying to work the ground when it's to wet really does more harm then good as others have stated,compacts it to much and leaves it very clumpy . then as it does dry they turn into almost rocks.and it's hard to get them broke up and smoothed out. I use the same disk you do and yes it's a bit on the light side weighing 540 lbs.I welded 300 extra pounds of steel to it (not a pretty site) but at 840lbs it's a whole new animal. works Great now.
