My first tractor was a Deere 4100 Gear. It smoked all the time, clattered, and started hard on pump diesel. It all cleared up inside of 5 minutes when I added a clean-up dose of Red Line 85 Plus directly into the fuel tank. It was quite amazing to watch.

When I get the quote from the local JD dealer I will post the 3rd Party Hoe Mfgr they are proposing.

Answer to some posts:

Yes, no "honey-do's" on 20+ degree slopes due to dew!

Will be getting 40# front weights and some new type of liquid in back R4 tires for the rear and a ballast box.

Question: would having the rear tires weighted with liquid provide a better or worse center of gravity when going up the steep slopes?

What is your collective opinion on keeping the FEL on or off during so as to give it more front-end weight when mowing?

Again, any ideas or insights much appreciated.

(hmmmmmm, the wife just added another few mill to my accidental life insurance... !!)

Art, it's funny, I actually use things like the PTO switch to my advantage, so do a lot of my employees. On my dedicated FMM the seat switch is how I turn it off when I have to get off to pick up debris, I just jump (relatively speaking) out of the seat and everything just shuts down. The PTO switch is right next to the key so start up is a cinch.

I also look at it as a real safety device, I have a bunch of kids around sometimes, leaving PTO's engaged makes it just that much harder for little tykes to start things.

If you are only trying to cut 6-8" deep and can straddle it, what about using a single bottom plow! You could do it in two passes, one each way. If you lock your swaybar linkage on the return pass you may be able to keep it straight. That should get the majority of soil out of the way. Maybe a back blade, etc. could clean it out further after the majority has been rolled out of the way.

After reading this sites many post over a year now, I recall only seeing one fella looking to down size machines. Most are pretty happy with there first choice, And some like myself up size to larger machines.sometimes after gettin a tractor your plans will change beings you now have something that will possible be able to do the job. That was the case for me and it turned out a larger machine fit the bill better. put some though into it before hand.

My '04 TC40DA has the indicator on the tach at around the 2450RPM mark. It looks like the head on view of a PTO shaft with shield. If your indicator is missing, I would think 2400-2500 RPM range would be a safe bet.

Cherymax; Your comment about Land Pride being too much money. Yes, their equipment is pricey but once you use it you won't mind the extra cost. When I need another piece of equipment I don't even shop any more, I just go get a Land Pride. I use an RTA3576 on the 4410, yes it's a load for the Deere, but that tiller means business. Just my thoughts. Frank.

You never said how much property you have or what your plans are for your property. It would be a shame for all of us to have you buying a 3000 lb plus tractor for a one acre yard!

You could also try white LED lighting. They are super bright and use a lot less power. Tradeoff is cost. It would likely be less expensive to simply upgrade the alternater.

<ul>Would rather see a few of the "Premium" features put back into the tractor, such as the position control on the 3pt. This is probably the biggest disadvantage the 7800 has to the 2910. This alone cost the tractor my 1/2 point deduction.<br>
The standard seat on the 7800 (2003 7800f model) isn't stiff enough to properly support your weight.<br>
Having the brakes on the opposite side of the HST pedal would be an advantage for turning.</ul><br>

<b>Review Commentary</b><br>
I have had the tractor for about a year and it has done everything we have asked of it. I clear our 800' driveway and 1/4 mile of road in the winter with a hydraulic front blade, and it does an amazing job. The controls for the 3pt and the pto are easily reached from the seat and I find them very simple to use. Adding rear remotes was straight forward, even without the rear hydraulic block that is stabdard on the 2910. Except for the lack of position control on the 3pt., this tractor has everything you need to comfortably get your work done, and enjoy the seat time.<br>

Draw on the slternator is usually a concern when adding work lights. My 7800 cam stock sith a 15amp alternator, where the 2910 has a 25amp alternator. I added two 55watt work lights without changing the alternator.

If I noodled it though right, a 55watt/12volt bulb will draw about 4.5 amps. Two would be around 9 amps, or within the range of the alternator.

That is correct. Even with the sub framed aftermarket units like woods ect. If the tractor breaks the manufacture will not cover it. BUT most times the backhoe manufacturer will. This however is not the case with 3pt units. That is a use at your own risk type of product.

Even though I highly recommend sub-framed units there are times when all you can use is a 3pt hoe. (with NH any way) You can not have a mmm and a framed hoe on the same hoe. With Kubota and I think JD make units with both. I know the BX23 come with both.

NH is slow in the R&D department.

Since I am not a premium member, Chief, I cannot read your entire message. No more than I use the site, it's hard to justify the premium price. I appreciate your suggestion, though, about the tricycler kit, which I assume is a mulching kit. That's worth looking into.

By the way, does anyone have experience with the Bag-A-Nut harvesters? They seem awfully pricey but look like they'd do the trick.

Well kind of a funny story with an added lesson:<br>

I have had a 4110 now for about 6 weeks. Before that I had a 455 which fit in my garage height wise with no problem. Now the 4110 does too if I put the rop down. Well about 3 weeks ago my cable to my garage door opener cable snapped. 2 weeks ago I was going in the garage and for got to put the rop down. Cash I tore off the casing broke the glass out and a few other nice things got wacked out of alignment. One would think it would be a lesson learned.<br>

Well this week I did it again and this time hard enough to push the top panel off the tack. Now with no cable to keep the door up it was too heavy to keep up on its own so this is where the tractor and its buck came into play. I raised the door with the bucket and used it to hold it there while I replaced the top door. So you see you have to be careful but once you have found trouble a person can turn to the trusty tractor to help you fix the problem. <br>
