Dumb question # 32!
I'm ready to change oil in my 2210. I JUST realized that there is a difference between car (Gas engine) oil and Diesel engine oil. (OK - stop laughing!!)
I noted that someone online was recommending a Shell product (TCO?). Must I use Deere oil or are there other brands that meet the specs of my machine that folks recommend?
Also, while I'm just over 10 hours on the unit I seems to recall a note posted here that suggested waiting until 50 hours to let things "burn-in". Am I rushing the change? Does that cause problems?

Your 2210 comes from the factory with a break-in oil. You need to leave it in there so the rings on your pistons seat or hone-in with your cylinder walls.
I use JD Plus 50 15-40 wt in my 2210. You do need to use a diesel formulated oil that meets specs after you drain the breakin oil. Also be sure to follow the the manual for the changing of all fluids, greasing, and re-torquing of bolts. You can do the maintenance yourself or pay the dealer to do it.
Doing the maintenance at the recommended Intervals is important not only for the longevity of your machine, but also covers you if you have any warranty issues.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I'm a bit too anxious to get a wrench on my machine. Waiting for 50 hours might take me another 2-3 months at the rate I use my machine. Would you suggest changing oil prior to Wisconsin Winter weather even if I'm not at 50 hours? ....

If your going to change your oil early, you should replace the old oil with another batch of break-in oil, which you should be able to get from your dealer. ....
