My log splitter sucked nearly a gallon out of my 4115.

The whole range on the dipstick- from high to low- probably represents about a quart out of a 4 gallon sump.

Get the biggest unit you can afford. To address the portability issue get a portable tank for $20

I can run my nail shooter most of a day on a portable storage tank.

If you are close to a Costco they have some good deals.

Looked at a DX33 this weekend, with a LX114 loader at a dealer. The salesman could not tell me if the loader has down pressure, the plumbing looks like it does. Is there something special to make the down pressure work?

Thanks Oneace. I could be wrong, and probably am, but I really think that in my own case the starter may have something to do with it. With the 15 amp fuse in place of the 10 amp, you'd have to hear the starter turn over, or attempt to, to know what I'm talking about. There have been times where it just made a >spinning< noise before the starter caught. I'll find out tomorrow what my dealer intends to do about it. Working for New Holland I always look forward to your input, as well as a few others, on here. Thanks again.

The Terraplane name has been on several tractors over the last couple of years, Futian/Foton, KAMA, and DF, seems currently they are just using the DF tractor. This is a decent tractor and has been sold in the US for several years. It is also the same basic tractor as Taskmaster. Cosmetics, especially fiberglass work is better than Jinma. Last I checked prices on Terraplane tractors are higher than typical Jinma selling prices.

DF tractors are imported under an exlclusive agreement meaning one company controls distribution of tractors and parts in the USA. This helps maintain brand value by limiting competition from "fast buck" type competitors who don't make the commitment to plan for the long haul by stocking parts, etc and so can sell at lower prices then move on when the easy money is gone. It also means that parts will have to come from that same restictive channel. and can sometimes result in higher prices. I don't have any knowledge of Terraplane parts prices or thier availability, but the rules of supply and demand still seem to work the same as I learned in college 30 years ago.

My advise is to go see both, drive both if possible, and evaluate the dealers ability to support you after the sale, assign a dollar value to differences you discover and then see which is the best value. Might want to look at KAMA too!

Tom, it appears all the blue tractors on that page have the offending trade dress. If you order one I would suggest you at least get red or their new box nose look as shown on the FT304 on that same page.

If you are going to deal with a Chinese exporter, rather than a US based importer or retail dealer, be sure you are aware that these do not have EPA compliant engines (even the Perkins they use in some models). The most common method used to get around this is to use an engine manufactured before the EPA requirements went into effect. If Customs and or EPA decides to make an issue over a 2004 tractor with a 1997 engine, your unit could have a hard time getting home. If it is blue/black and looks like a New Holland, it very likely could get seized. It is yours when it leaves China so don't expect a refund if that happens.

I am not aware of too many importers bringing in any of the larger (over 50) HP Chinese tractors possibly because of the issues I mention here. I suspect the result will be that spare parts supplies will be very sparse here in the US.

Now with all this negativism out of the way, I will say that Foton builds a pretty nice tractor. I brought in a sample 254 last year and it was a decent machine, in fact I have ordered another sample tractor as I understand the factory has impoved on a couple of small issues we had with the prior unit. I am getting getting red and the box nose style just to be safe.

Hardwood brought up an interesting point. 40 years ago the worst thing that usually happened was loosing a few gallons of fuel/gas. We never topped off at night...

However as cabs became common, curved glass and stereos VANDILISM has became the problem.

Now it's cut tires, fuel lines, hoses, smashed windows, broken guadges etc...

I also believe it's not limited to unsupervised kids. It's tree huggers, peta's and that list of whackos goes on and on.

One of the best overall references that I have seen for methods is "Operating Techniques for Tractor Loader Backhoe" written by Gary Ober. It was published in 1983. Lots of photos and illustrations and explainatory text. It has part of one chapter devoted to clearing land. I got it through an interlibrary loan rather than buying a copy. I have an '03 2500HD Crew, but it's a 2x4. On piece of advice. I got one of those bug deflectors and my city milage rose from about 10 to about 12. Don't know if anyone else has seen similar results, but there's my 2�.

I have had some problems restaring my JD4500 after it has benn running for a while. I was working it for a couple of hours this afternoon pulling a cultivator then a york rake. Stopped for about 5 min. and when i went to restart it it would not start. It turns over fine, battery is real strong. I waited for about 20 minutes then it started right up. Worked a while longer. Shut it down for about 45 minutes, the same thing happend. I also had this happen for a third time as well today. after it wouldnt start the third time, I turned the keyswitch to the left before turning it to the start position and it started right up. Anyone have any advice? Was it a coinsidence that it started after turning the key to the left?<br>
The worst part of the whole thing is it happend in front of my wife who really didnt want me to buy the tractor!!<br>
Any advice would be appreciated.<br>

We have sold many of these units. the top speed is about 8mph. there are no tools needed to remove the deck. Not sure of the weight but they are not that heavy. If I had to guess I would say under 2000 lbs.

I have a new 7610 HST. I was just getting the parts together to do my 50 hr service. I thought there were 2 filters for the hyd.unit. I mentioned it to the dealer. Their info and the manual that came with the tractor showed 1 filter. I bought just one. When I got home, I looked again and there are 2 filters. Does anyone know what is the second filter for?
