I'm not sure if you would get any penetration. I think the rake will just load up with old grass.

You might try taking out every other tooth and that might do it.

If it does not I'm only 25 miles SW os Syr and have a old set of #PH spring tooth harrows you can borrow for the weekend.

I'm surprized Ken wasn't taking bets on how long before I put my $0.02 in on this one.

I have designed a decent number of geothermal systems, but will admit to rather limited experience with horizontal installations. What I have seen, read in the trade, and learned from trying to help Ken strongly suggests sticking with known, independently tested ground exchanger designs.

Ken's contractor had a home brewed concept with no 3rd party test data to check it against. I think Ken got short changed, but can't prove it. It also seems like the unit may be a little small for the house and climate. Recovery time is a function of unit size vs. load.

Add some hardware issues with what was a new technology at the time (2 speed compressors) and I don't blame him for being bitter. I really would have hoped Waterfurnace would have stepped up to the plate on the equipment side, but apparently they haven't.

It's a lot like the discussions we keep coming back to here about tractors and dealers. Usually any of the name brand machines are fine to own, but having a good dealer and in this case a good installer very important.

If you have the room to go horizontal, be sure to spread it out, get it all in as deep as possible and limit the number pipes in one trench. The whole concept is transferring heat to and from the earth, so keep the pipes away from each other. If you can do your own trenching, I wouldn't even consider any more than a 2 pipes / trench design. Spread the trenches at least 25 feet apart if you need multiple trenches, and keep everything at least 4 feet down. That's how to have an efficient system.

In extreme climates, either very heating dominant or very cooling dominant, the system efficiency will go down compared to a nicely balanced load. A correctly done ground exchanger design should take that into account.

If you have cheap fuel available (oil, gas, propane) don't even consider geothermal. But if you are stuck with electric, and want to invest some money now to save it later, it may be worth looking at.

I consider ground water too precious a resource in most areas to think about an open system, but they have a lot of advantages in first cost and constant temperature if you have the water supply. Looking at run time the well pump life may be normal. Think of how much the pump run time changes if you use a couple of gpm / ton the whole time the unit is running.

Geothermal isn't a cure all technology. But it can be a good technology when correctly applied. Get an IGSHPA certified designer and installer and be sure they stick to a proven design. Also, be sure they don't undersize the equipment. An undersized AC unit can't catch up in a heat wave either.

Deere, Kubota, New Holland, etc. all make good tractors.

I have a Kubota L3130, proximity of the dealer, price and reputation were my serious considerations.

The smaller CUTs are really good for finish mowing, getting around obstructions and less demanding jobs, but have limited ground clearance and smaller attachments. Brush cutters are horsepower hogs. Working in the woods requires agility, stability, and ground clearance. I don't finish mow with my CUT, cut ~3acres with a 'disposable' 42" MTD garden mower, so size was what I could afford/fit in the garage. If you are seldom brush-cutting it might be cheaper to rent or contract the work out, and buy a smaller tractor.
My drive is ~1600' and I run a 7' rake and 64" snow blower, I guess you would want at least the 24 PTO HP I have available to maintain yours.
Once you have your 'uses' prioritized, test drive all the models you can, it will give you operating experience and also an idea of what to compare.

Plenty of good info/opinions here, do a Search on your key word(s).

Funny you should ask. I was filling out the DEQ form today, but had to stop because I didn't have the model number. The guy I bought it from later said to use the model number JM6 so I'll mail mine off in the next day or so.

I think the official JD way to do it is to install an electric diverter valve and use the joystick control for both. Mine is set up this way and I like it fine. When set up this way the loader and Top-N-Tilt can't be operated simultaneously, but that would be the case anyway given the way the hydraulics work.

you're just a little upstate. Get north ot the thruway before you really say UPSTATE. Us NYers north of Syracuse still have 4 feet of snow on the front lawn and we still got lots left on our roofs even after shoveling them off a short time ago. Can anyone spell Lake effect? LOL

I have a BX23 that came with a 10" bucket. I could make good use of a 6" or 8" bucket. I live in the San Joaquin Valley in Central Ca. Soil conditions are ideal for the 6". Most of my trenching is shallow for small pvc irrigation. <br>

I think that's a great idea (Spring Forks). I know some short forks like you describe would be very helpful to me in maneuvering logs and stacking brush. Probably would help a lot in easing rocks into the bucket too. <br>

You hit it on the head. My ch. lab has had infections just about all her life, spent hundreds on vets. I learned a few things from the lattest vet we went to in a small town we have a second home in. 2 things that the vets down in the cities did not ever tell us. ( kinda makes you wonder) First of all, she said never swab it out, let the dog shake it around ( the ear wash ) She said swabbing it will spread the bad and do no good.

Here is the biggest one that NO VET has ever suggested (we have been ear infection free for 3 months now, a new record for us, and mind you my wife cleans my dogs ears twice a week for the past 11 or so years) The vet told us my dog may be allergic to beef and dairy products, shesaid it is pretty common and hardly ever diagnosed. Stay away from all eggs, cheese and BEEF. ALL!!! That means buying a dog food like IAMS chicken/rice or a lamb and rice meal.
watch the dog treats too for beef by products. I am so serious you would not believe!!! NO ear infections for 3 months now!!! It makes you wonder how the last 4 vets she was too missed something that a hick town vet hit on the head!!!! (By the way, I am moving to that hick town soon!!!) Its my kinda people LOL>
Good luck and giver a try? At worst your dog will lose a bit of weight with out all those extra little treats from the table, Mine did anyway>

I am not sure that the 135A will do 1/4 steel. I believe they recommend the 150A.
The other manufacturer of the small machines is Miller. I have used the larger commercial Millers and liked them. I am not sure about the smaller rigs but the price is comparable.

I recently purchased a 1992 B7100. The previous owner said he used 10 W 30 Rotella T. I can't find anything but Rotella T 15 W 40. The owners manuel says to use 10 W 30. Can 15 W 40 be run in this tractor with no problems?

Pete, at one time it was offered on all of the B-series. Now they only use it on the B-2410 and the larger M-series. Yes it does sell for more but the market has not been strong or the marketing is weak!

I'm now looking at a Case-IH-Farmall DX33 with a front loader, belly mower, cultivator, disc, and grader box.
Not cheap, but basically the same as the New Holland....actually a few $$ more but the C-IH-F dealer said they would "be willing to talk" so we'll see.
It's still going to be around $18,000 with all the goodies I want. I found a year-old DX29 in the paper recently for $9000 bare tractor, so might go look at that. Everyone's right, they are the same as the blue tractors except for paint, headlights and the cowling/hood. :)

Like was already said, many Manufacturers use one key for all machines. I work for an excavating company and on my key ring I have a Cat key, a Deere key, and a Komatsu key. They each use 1 key for all their equipment. It is nice in some ways, but also kind of scary that anyone could get a key and steal a very expensive piece of equipment.

Any idea how much more the TC55 will be over the TC45? I was looking at the L5030 but the Kubota dealer has talked me out of it as it is too light for tha BH287.

I would think that the test would be a good one with back filling. To measure out from the pivot point and test at that common distance for both units and to also reach out to it's longest point would also show the added length in reach to assist in faster clean-up. I like the fact that many of the Kubota Excavator attachments go right on the L-48 without any trouble, you know they are built rugged!
