I said it once and I'll say it again.......if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I looked at this guys feedback and the most recent was from last March. 9 months ago. $5,500 for a zero time tractor, cab, and 2 stage snow blower just doesn't seem within the realm of reason. Be careful.

There have been a few sporadic reports here and elsewhere about Kubota denying warranty claims. I'd be curious if they gave you a reason for the denial. If they can't give you a GOOD reason for the denial and won't make it right, and your dealer won't intercede on your behalf, about all you can reasonably do is file a complaint with your local consumer affairs office and/or park it in front of the dealer with a big LEMON sign on it. I do hope you are talking calmly to the dealer about the situation - shouting matches usually end up with the customer losing.

If you can mix and match up parts many of the lower end brands get sold or discontinued and parts become a problem Many times if you are saavy with parts you can track down another part from another brand and get by.

The big boys will continue to make parts for what works. You are more likely to find parts 10 years from now from woods, landpride, JD, kombota, (FordnHcase) or whatever it is at the moment.

A manufacturer like Kubota or JD makes a wide spectrum of equipment. Less expensive equipment is made because there's a market for it. For a machine to be less expensive requires that some of the bells and whistles be eliminated. Why should a buyer buy lots of hydraulic doodads that they don't need? On the other hand, a good dealer will characterize the customers stated requirements and properly equip a machine to meet those needs. This is where the quality and honesty of the dealer come into play, and where I believe many buyers are penny-wise and pound-foolish. If the customer insists on buying the cheapest tractor on the lot regardless of dealer recommendations, or if they articulate their needs and a year later decide they have NEW needs, that is neither the dealers or manufacturers fault. And the buyer will pay more in the end.

I blow with a 3ph I do lots at night. The lights are above and shine down and not shraight out into the plume. I have no problems with this arrangement, other than maybe it could be higher. However both sets of lights are well protected from tree limbs so it works real well for me.

Ive been out in howling blizards, I can see very well, and have had neighbors say, how nice it is to see something they can see because of the lighting.

I read somewhere that the single biggest cause of death for beavers was not predators, or even man, it was trees falling on them.

If it happens to them I suppose it can happen to us just as easily.

Whenever possible we only cut trees with mechanical assistance, usually a 30 ton excavator.

It's usually not much of a battle, Man 1, Tree 0, but every now and then one surprises the operator by fighting back just a little.

I went with the 2 link chains since I got the R-4 tires for the 7800 and they were $265 per the pair. I probably could have gotten them cheaper somewhere else, but I just got everything together there as a package.

Ken or maybe Kens: You're right I should have been more specific. I don't know how kadorken would like to be called in messages, but probably not Kad. Mine was a question for him. It sounded like maybe he had the same problem and a dealer fixed the problem so I was curious what the solution was. Screen names can be a problem for me. For similar reasons I choose to call 'deeremd' 'md.'

I have noticed that some of the turf tires Kubota is using these days have a "V" shaped carcass on the tire, similar to the basic shape of an Ag tire where only the center section of the tread makes contact with the ground.

To my way of thinking, a turf tire should lay all of its tread flat on the ground.

Thanks Art for noting that manufacturers may make changes for reasons other than my usual stocking horse of corporate liability for all explanations. I'm also in favour of using more tractor for heavier work.

No matter what you have though, there'll always be jobs too heavy for the tractor that's available and also jobs the tractor is too big for. Almost all operators will face problems sometimes. I think we do a pretty good job around here of bringing out the ideas that can make for fairly realistic ways to approach problem jobs. And well, contractors are sometimes the best solution.

The tractor is a model year 1989 which was sold off the dealers lot in 1990, it does have 4WD and the correct hours are 493. As for the front tires, my guess would be that if they were using it to plow snow on a asphalt parking lot that that may lead to premature wearing of the front tires. Especially if they were pushing snow and tring to trun at the same time. The front tires are about 25% and the rear tires are about 80%. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are caught between a sneaze and a fart on this issue. Have you gotten a repair estimate yet? Depending on what is wrong with the trans. it could be tough to place a value on the repair. In all probability the John Deere shop is going to do the repair reguardless. Have you considered trading in the tractor on a new or newer used model the dealer may be trying to move. If the trans is economicly repairable the dealer will do the repair and try to sell it; otherwise it is off to the auction with it. Could be something as simple as a clutch pack seal but no telling until you have an estimate. The other consideration is what condition is the tractor in? Will it be worth even close to what you have in the repairs afterwards? You can buy a new tractor and extense up to 60% in the first year. You may want to sit down and juggle the numbers. In most cases it is cheaper to repair and keep running it but not always. Just bear in mind "in for a penny; in for a pound".

I am really impressed with the 4115 and wouldn't trade it for any other green tractor. It has just the right balance of size, weight and power, and when you throw in the legendary longevity of Yanmar tractors, it comes up a winner all around .

I have found a significant increase in usable traction and basic stability over the 4100 which I think may be attributable to the longer wheelbase and increased base weight.

The only reason I could imagine ever going bigger would be if I moved to an area that required the services of a large heavy duty brush cutter and therefore more horsepower at the PTO.

This is my third tractor in three years and this one is a keeper.
