Like a car the first few years are the hardest on the resale value. Overtime the price will generally equal the initial purchase price.
Also like a car if you do not want the high loss in the first few years then you need to look for a good low hour used unit.
I believe the Kioti are holding their value as well as most. Despite what some say I do not believe that green paint holds its value any better than others. I have done well buying others initial green losses on CUT.

I'm also concidering a quick hitch for my JD 2210. What did you mean by 1. all impliment HAVE to be built or modified to fit the quick hitch. Is this an envolved process?

I talked to the distributor and he said that the tractor comes with owners manual and parts book plus some tools and spare parts; gaskets, filters, etc. He said the factory ships them with the tractors and he passes them along to the buyer. He also puts 5 or 10 hours on the unit to be sure that it works and he's found all of the leaks..doesn't that sound good!

The chinese boards that I found are CTOA and Johnstractors(?). The CTOA has some good tips but the guys here seem like the best I've seen.

Well I checked my tractor with respect to the direction changes today. I tried various speed direction changes and each time the tractor would come to a full stop momentarily and smoothly procede in the opposite direction. I even tried making a direction change at full throttle with full pedal forward and then immediate full pedal reverse. Each time the tractor performed as above. The fact that you state your tractor performs fine when cold and acts up when warmed up inidicate to me that your ehydro problem may not be an electrical/sensor problem. Sound to me like indeed the FRPV may be malfunctioning (i.e. sticking or hanging up). I would bet you that if you took the tractor out on some flat ground (driveway) and tried performing repeated direction changes for a sustained period, your tractor may start working better as the proportioning valve (hopefully ;-) loosens up. It may actually force the system to throw a code the dealer can work off of at the very least. I would say at the very least, it would not hurt to recalibrate both forward and reverse drive pedal potentiometers. If they replaced the reverse pedal potentiometer as you say; this should have already been done. If they had both pedal potentiometers disconnected and turned the key while doing the original repair; both pedals could be out of calibration concievabley.

This is not a real complicated system and if functions VERY similar to the automatic stabilator positioning system in the helicopters I used to fly. Basic sensors are:

Throttle position potentiometer
Drive pedal potentiometer
Fly wheel speed sensor
MFWD speed sensor
Forward/Reverse proportional valve coil

These feed the system controller. If any are not properly calibrated or malfunctioning; the ehydro will not work properly and should hopefully throw a malfuction code.

Let me know if you have not resolved this problem and I will run it by Jimmy at my John Deere dealer. Sounds to me like someone is not doing a full system diagnosis and skipping steps and swapping parts in hopes of getting lucky. Ask your dealer to conduct a full system calibration and function check with the JDG 1575 Test & Calibration Kit. These checks are covered in detail on pgs. 303 - 314 of the shop manual TM 1985. I'm will to bet this would identify the problem.

I apologize in advance if I am going into way too much detail. This type of thing just really pisses me off when a dealer leaves the customer hanging like this. They need to get their ass in gear and fix your tractor or provide you another.

Hi, Mudpie. Check out the Turfco TM42. Just right for my 2210 and yours. Once you get out of the cheap drag-behind aerators, the price runs between $650-$1,500. The TM42 is 225 pounds dry and has water ballast jugs that will allow you to load up to a total weight around 600 pounds. It will pull 3/4" by 4" plugs with one of the tightest patterns in the business. <br>

Some do read pretty low when they aren't being worked too hard but I don't think that a gauge that doesn't come off the peg even when sitting idling should be considered normal. Low temperatures as well as high ones are signs of malfunction. You can't tell a low temperature condition easily if the gauge doesn't come into the operating rage under normal conditions. There'd be no good way to tell that the thermostat stuck open and the engine is running cool or that that the coolant wasn't circulating--could be frozen or almost empty and the engine is actually over-heating. A bad water pump or broken fan belt may also result in a gauge going to cold on some engines.

My wife blew a head gasket on her car recently due to running a hot engine. There was a large leak in a rad hose. The temp went to hot and she should have stopped but the temp went back down so she kept going. The coolant got so low that the pump wasn't getting coolant to the sensor.

Dave, yes. The R-4's have a very rigid carcass and will better and more stabley support that extra substantial weight of a backhoe. The turf tires are great when your primary mission is lawn care but I think the R-4's are a good compromise for a variety of uses. You could use the turf tires in this case but I don't think it would be a very good combination.

Blizzard, nice pictures. It looks like you actually use your machine with the paint worn off the bucket and everything. :-)

I suppose I should just admit that after a few hours of experience an operator with the hydro tranny can probaby do more than with the shuttle shift. Maybe I'm just starting to think old and set in my ways. A few weeks ago I was walking around in the barn with baggy pants, clearing my throat constantly and muttering to myself. I was my old man reincarnated! Oh well, I suppose there are worse people to emulate. :-)

The Snap'n Turtle has two jaws, similar to the pincers on an insect, that grab the tree trunk when you lift the three point hitch. It's very heavy duty (jaws are fabricated with 1" plate) and looks like it would pull a 6-8" tree or stump. The mounting looks like it involves some frame attachment as well as side and top links. I haven't used it as I would like to know how it was intended to be mounted. I may try to trace the patent number to get information. I haven't seen another puller that uses the three point to grab and yank the stump. It seems like a good idea as the center of pull is below the drawbar.

Consider the purchase of a 19 to 20 hp lawn mower and a 60" to 70" 4 wheel offset pull behind mower with its own motor. If the lawn mower cuts 40+" you will be able to make 100" in a pass. The pull behind also goes under trees with no problem. Total cost will be 1/3 or more of the way you are now thinking.

You can do a lot of smoothing with the regular blade and FEL, but a box blade is much easier. I would suggest renting or borrowing one to smooth the area needed.
Other than that what Harvey said will work. I might see if you can fine wheat straw or rye straw to mulch as hay tends to bring its share of undesirable weeds and grasses. Left over seeds of wheat or rye will only bother you one season.

I'm not sure about your priorities but me thinks the "to make things worse ..." is where I'd begin. My buddies wife finially had enough of the toys and her car sitting out. Her car is inside again. His big red toy is in and his truck is in the snowbank. But she did explain the facts of life and something about a livin hell...

First I guess I'd look at snow removal because blade can also be used to move dirt. But maybe your wife is the forgiving type and will also shovel the driveway.

Box blades can work for snow and work great for dirt. My first scraper was a 4' box scraper bought used from a rental place less than half of a new one.

Second was a brush hog type cutter.

I've had small tractors for over 15 years b4 I got a backhoe. So I have most all of the attachments I have needed. I can think of some stuff I want for brush but I guess I'll stick with pushing it up in a pile in the hedgerow.
