How many acres are you mowing, and how big is your garden? There are a lot of choices out there, ranging from old Ford 8N and 9N tractors for about $1500- $2500. There are used compact tractors that range from $4-$5 K and up. Or you can go the new route, and spend megabucks. For implements and some idea on tractor prices go to some farm auctions and observe what is sold and for how much. Compare that with what you find at dealers. Research will help you a lot, but try and find someone in your area that has equip. and is using it. I assume you may have neighbors around you with tractors, etc. Talk to them, you need to get to know them anyway. Maybe they'll let you test drive what they have, which will give you a place to start from. Most people that live in the country are more than willing to help a new land owner get started, I know over the years I've helped many people with advice. If you run across someone with a closed mind that swears they have the only setup worth considering, remember not everyone has the same needs, budget, and experience. Get a second and third opinon. I saw a posting here a couple of weeks ago about a guy that bought a used Kubota, that the front end fell off of after he got it home. If the deal seems to good to be true it probably is. Tractors and implements are expensive toys for the most part, and the quality of what you get will be directly proportional to what you spend. I would stay with a name brand, Kubota, John Deere, etc., and stay away from the stuff being imported from China, Korea etc.<br>Hope this helps a little, if you want to talk more my e-mail is jbbooks@yahoo.com

You need to try the Excel-Hustler front deck mowers.<br>Excel built the first zero turn front deck mower in 1966. These mowers are more heavily constructed than anything I have seen. The cost and productivity of these mowers is phenominal.

Nice tractor, nice price, fairly low hours. If all depends on condition. If it is in poor cosmetic shape then I'd think twice about any tractort. If in average or better conditon then you will waste a lot of time looking for a better deal. Used JDs have good resale. <br> Roger L.

I just purchased a 4300 HST for our horse stable business. Only about 4 hours so far and no problems. I am very interested in the outcome of this problem (in case I fall victim to the same thing) and would really appreciate it if all of you who have this problem could keep us updated as to your progress in getting a fix. By the way - 4300 HST FWD with DSCV (no mid-PTO) was $15500 (in San Diego).

I am also looking at the TC29D. A friend let me use his 33 this weekend and it worked great! My only concern is the 4 less hp. Is it still enough? By the way how much did you pay?

Greetings All: I am thinking of purchasing an old Oliver Crawler, Model HG42 SN#55GA902. It also have a Ware Loader, Model HGH Ser. No. 49-1146. The machine has a 4 cylinder gas Hercules engine...Everything works, although it looks mighty old and used. Loader cylinders could use rebuilding soon. Tracks appear good and tight, sprockets look pretty good. Asking price is $2250 which I think is high. What do these machines typically go for? Next question...How do you drive this? With a clutch and two steering clutches (although I have been told they are brakes), my small amount of driving has been rather rough. Do you clutch often when trying to manuver, or only when shifting and stopping? Anyone with experience with these machines, I'd love to hear from you. I went to see it expecting to find a larger machine...It is kinda cute and small. Does it push well?<br>All comments greatly appreciated. Thanks much, Bruce

The fittings on my 410 loader also leak slightly upon disconnecting. But not <br>more than what I would consider normal for any hydraulic implement. I think its normal<br>to have a slight drip, immediately after disconnecting the lines, due to any residual<br>oil in the valve itself. The two problems I've had on other implements, is either dirt <br>in the valve or the valve can tend to stick when new. You may want to check for dirt or cycle the valves, <br>by connecting and disconnecting them a few times in a row, to break em in a little.<br>Hopefully someone can shed a little light on what your problem may be other than this.

Friends - I feel bad about continuing to come to you guys for thoughts, but I have really appreciated the ideas I have gotten here so far. Here is my current question: remembering that we are building a small log home, we need something primarily to move the logs around the property. If it could help raise them up the walls, even better. If it could be used for other purposes later around our 11 acres, that's fabulous. I now have the following possibilities: 1) to buy a recently re-built Ford 5000 gas tractor with either a new bucket on it or a really hefty set of something like hay tines (this tractor could definitely lift my logs for moving purposes and probably handle some of the lifting for the lower walls); 2) to rent a 1950s diesel boom truck for the duration of the project for $1000 (the truck is pretty study and has a boom that could raise logs to at least 14', but it is not terribly maneuverable and might prove difficult to operate when the weather gets wet; or 3) to buy a log arch for $200, lift the logs with a block & tackle system and haul them with my '72 CJ5. Any thoughts?

I believe Beverage tractor in Stuarts Draft Va imports many used tractors from overseas. They then re-sell them to numerous dealers across US, you may be able to contact them at their email address of beverage@cfw.com. He is a decent fellow and may be able to give you a name of a good dealer near you. If not, buy one from him and ship it, his prices are good enough to offset the costs( if you find a reasonable shipper).<br>

Also Dan, If your Kubota is still under warranty do not mess with off-brand stuff. Buy your oil from the dealer you purchased the tractor from and documate with receipts etc. and buy what the manuel specifies only.

dave the price of a std m9000 is28000 on a two wheel 32200 on a four wheel m9000 cab tractors with cab are 35500. and 39700. m110 prices are48000 and 54700for the four wheel version
