Sounds like Peters is describing the seat on my Ford. The suspension is like a scissors jack where the height is maintained by springs. The bottom rides in tracks on rollers. It works pretty well and even better after I figured out that it's good to lubricate the rollers and tracks.

There are fairly inexpensive after-market seats that have improved suspensions. A dealer might be willing to throw in one if that'd be a deal-maker. The one I saw had flip up arm rests, which I didn't think were a good idea and it was also taller than the original so I just put a new seat on the old suspension. A local hardware store is selling old style cast iron tractor seats made into bar stools. Novel idea, but they were hard when they were on tractors, and these stools don't have a spring under them. Better as bar stools than on tractors I think.

Finding a rebuilt clutch and or complete kit is gonna be hard for a compact. Try Wengers in PA. Most of the tractor parts yards only deal in older tractors.

The clutch is goona be cheap compared to flywheel and pressure plate. You might be able to resurface flywheel.

I just looked it up at JD parts. That has live pto? the complete kit with both clutches and all plates is $1500. Looks like quite a project. I do not have that service manual so can not say how big of a job.

Quincy the dealer should have delivered no charge! I have NEVER heard of a dealer charging to deliver a $15,000+ piece of brand new equipment. 50 miles is not excessive.

Cecil1 the problem you will encounter is how quick your local dealer will take care of your warranty issues, if you have any.

If you have mechanical skills and buy the shop and part manuals you will have no problem with most repairs.

My 4400 whent back to JD 3X for updates and to install 48 BH I was never charged once for that service.

Looking at buying a tractor. I'm told its a LONG but I don't know what model, its been repainted so it doesn't have any decals left. What I do know is that its 2wd, has a D115 Fiat 3cyl. diesel motor and a 6sp tranny, I think the year of it is 1976. Could it be a 445 model??

My tubeless rear tires are filled with anti-freeze solution too. I don't think corrosion will be a problem for many, many years if at all.

I'm planning on going with the HST trans and R4 tires. When I was a young ladd I used to race my 4 speed at the local drag strip and couldn't understand why anyone looking for a driving experience would pick automatic...but...now that I'm an old dog, I want nothing to do with any clutches or manual shifts. One think I like(d) about the 4110 over the 7500 was the absence of a PTO clutch.

your right, the 1500 is a heck of a machine. My neighbor has one and that is what sold me on the buying a Kubota. A few shy on the horses it is still a great machine.

Roundup that you buy in the Home Depot etc. is the "baby milk" version of what the farmers use to keep the EPA happy. Go to the local COOP or Tractor Supply Store and buy the smallest container of Glyphosphate you can find. Mind you now this is some REALLY pricey stuff but very concentrated and effective. The Army stuff you are referring to I believe is "2,4,D" which is used in many herbicides in varying amounts. Glyphosphate ins the generic name for concentrated Roundup by the way. It works most effective when mixed with a surfactant (i.e. glycerin or a good soap/detergent). Mix up a batch and spray it and I think you will see a difference. My family uses this stuff to kill all the vegetation prior to planting since they "No till" farm. Works great for them. Vinegar, and salt will also work but salt takes a LONG time to be absorbed by the soil and the soil may end up barren for years. Just ask any farmer that has broken a NaCl filled tire open in a field.

I agree the question is between not around as the larger mower should allow you to cut closer to trees. The other question is the tract on the tractor. You definately need the mower wider than the tract as the grass pushed down by the front and rear wheels will not necesarily stand up on the next pass. I would not worry about power as most 60" take only about 15 HP.

I was going to add that one of the features I was specifically looking at when I bought the replacement for the Landpride was the antiscalp roller.
What I didn't know until I read this post was the fact that some manufactures consider it an option. I guess I ruled out some I might have considered, although as I was at 1K for the mower I don't believe I could have beaten the price with the features and quality.

Northern Tool and similar places have inexpensive gauges. Gauges from a hydraulics shop are expensive. Hydraulic gauges are fluid filled for damping but old welding bottle gauges work. I think the Northern Tool ones come with a line ending in a 1/4 NPT male fitting. A hydraulics shop likely would have fittings to adapt that to a quick connector.

The low-pressure settings discussed here usually have been the loader valve pressure relief. Switching the diverter valve (if equipped) to the remote setting would take the loader valve out of the system and only the system relief and 3ph safety relief valves would provide protection. That might be something to try while waiting on a pressure gauge.

I have a 5' Meteor, which is a moderate priced blower that been just fine for me going into my 5th winter. I don't know if a 4' model is available. Pronovost and a few other names higher priced names come to mind. Large regional fabrication shops sometimes make blowers and dealers often are aware of them. A dealer should be able to suggest after-market products for somebody who doesn't want to pay the price for factory attachments. Since I was in the Northern Tool site for another discussion, I expected to find a small inexpensive 3ph blower there, but there is just a 5' one.

I'd look for one that just covers the rear tire tracks. The HP requirements for a blower are manageable by controlling ground speed. A small HST equipped tractor can use an oversized blower to clear heavy snows by creeping along. However, with my gears, the slowest I can go is .8mph at pto rpm. At .8mph my 24 pto hp tractor doesn't blow enough snow to keep up with the ground speed for the heaviest snows we get around here. The problem is manageable but I don't think I'd want to use a 5' blower on a 15-hp tractor in an region that's subject to heavy snows.

It sure does sound like a tractor designed for its own attachments. From the description it's seems like the axis of the output shafts are a plane to drive reel mowers and tillers, and I guess you have a tiller.

If a mower for the tractor exists it likely would be a reel type and I'd guess it's be easiest to adapt a reel type. If the head of the pto output shaft mounts were symmetrical, the head might be rotated 90-degrees, which would put the output in a plane for driving a belt driven rotary mower, but likely would cause a lubrication problem. Anyway, this is just flight of fancy thinking and I doubt it'd lead to a realistic design for adapting a mower to the tractor. The sort of reel mowers that used to be towed behind jeeps for mowing parks and golf courses seems more realistic.

Sounds like a good plan. For a front blower on any compact, Art's comment about chains is good to keep in mind. I have few traction problems on frozen gravel and snow pack with turf tires and 3ph blower on a heavier tractor. However, sometimes I could use more steering getting around sharp corners and a front blower or blade for that matter. Steering is more of a problem for front mounts and it may be a greater problem than traction. Chains help steering even on 2wd tractors.

Nobody seems to have a preference toward any brand, that is good news. Maybe all are quality built and have equal performance. If any major problems have shown up in a brand, I am sure many would be expressing their concerns. I plan to shop for a local dealer with the best deal.
