It cuts, mulches and leaves a very even spread of mulched whatever I cut. If you have brush or orchard prunings, it will shred and leave them evenly spread over the ground. Flails comes in much wider widths too (with more blades), enough to use whatever PTO HP your machine has available. The size of branch a flail will shred and mulch depends on the particular flail and HP. A small one like mine handles branchesup to 2 inches in diameter--something I wouldn't try with a finish mower--something the rotarymower wouldn't mulch.
