I'm looking for a farm wagon to do hay rides once or twice a year for company parties, but can't find any available. My JD dealer says JD used to offer one, and they were also available through Sears and Montgomery Ward, but now he doesn't know where to find them either. Any ideas?

Shawn,I see farm wagons all over the place. Why buy new when you should be able to find a good used trailer at an auction or through an ad in a newspaper. Another place to look is a welding shop that fabricates for farmers. The most difficult part is the front axle. It may be necessary to take the mechanicals off a rusted out cotton trailer or the like. You would be surprised at what one of those old time farm welders can come up with when they have a little time. ....

There are several sites which focus on older tractors and equipment. Probably the best is Antique Tractor Internet Services (www.atis.net) which has its own classified's and also links to many other good agricultural sites (Yesterdays's Tractors, Agriculture Online, etc.) Good luck.Best regards,Steve O.soffiler@ici.net ....

Yes, they're still made. On the off chance you can't find a used one, Gempler's sells new 5 ton and 10 ton wagon gear. You'll have to build the wooden part yourself. Call them for a free catalog. ....

Having spent all my life on a farm & being an auction lover, I make the following suggestions. You go to a farm sale or machinery dealer & buy an old running gear( the metal thing with 4 wheels with front to that steer) That should be the cheap part. Then you buy 2 stringers( boards 3 or 4" thick that set on end that run from the top of one axle to the top of other axle. They are the length of the hay rack, 16' is a common length. They have to be wide enough to eztend above the tires.) Then buy enough 1 or 2" thick boards 8' long to put crossways to make the floor of the wagon. Fasten to stringer with 16 penny nails. Then place a 2x4 the length of the rack on top of the 8' boards at either end & bolt it to 8' boards with 2 bolts on each end. I hope this is clear, if not contact me. ....
