I wish it were from mowing in deep grass, but it just snapped. The belt actually looks perfect except where it broke. All of the spindles etc are in good shape as is the ideler pulley. I'm guessing it was just a flawed belt.

I too am leary on my 7205 Cub Cadet, with only a 48" wheel base. I have been thinking about getting some type of inclinometer to put on the dash, anyone heard of something like this?

I live in New Hampshire where the temps. can be pretty low at times. The tractor comes with a block heater, but the battery and hydraulic heater sound like good advice. The RPM and temp. connections explain one of the reasons why I see others run their diesel engines at higher RPM's when warming them up.
My tractor should arrive the end of this week. Thanks for the advice.

Finally found me a used bush hog. It is a 2000 model that somebody stove up by going over a stump or rock and forced the blades into the deck to form a round ring in the deck. Looked like a good deal for $500.Anyhow, what kind of oil goes in the gear box?<br>Also, the lower two big pins on the bush hog's 3ph are about 4" long. It is tough to get it on my tractor without dragging it forward with only one arm on and turning the wheel hard to get the other arm on. Can I get shorter pins the same diameter? This would also narrow down the width of my arms and help keep them from occasionally rubbing my tires when turning.Someone told me not to back up with a bush hog lowered, is this true?

By the way, be careful when plugging in the hydraulic lines when you mount the loader onto the tractor. Wipe off the ends of the hose fittings and also inside the couplers on the tractor to make sure they are clean. Inside each coupler is a small rubber O-Ring, and they are easily damaged, which will cause a leak. Make sure the hose fitting is straight, not cocked, when you push it into the coupler. The first time I did it, one of the O-Rings got nicked, and it leaked. I replaced the O-Ring and I keep a few spares on hand just in case.

Sounds like it's under warranty and the dealer is involved. You might check the clutch petal adjustment described in an owner's manual. On most, there should be at least a half-inch free travel at the top and the return spring should pull the petal back to the top of its travel. If the adjustment is very close, there is a possibility that a heavy load or hill could flex the frame enough to change the clutch adjustment slightly. You might check for clutch free travel under the conditions where chatter is present (safety permitting of course). There was a discussion something like this some months back. I can�t remember if it was a JD clutch in question or not.

I've been 'out-of touch' up at our camp since Friday. We spend a lot of time there during the summer, and maybe I develop new perspectives. One thing I noticed in this discussion is that I carried on at length without realizing that no mention of the kind of tractor was made. It does make a difference if it's an open or closed system. It also makes a difference whether the loader valve is power-beyond or not. In terms of tracing connections, a good way to sort this stuff out to think of the SCV assembly (everything that controls the loader) as a set of separate components. There is an inlet section at one end that will have one hose. There is an outlet section at the other end that will have two hoses if it's power-beyond and one hose otherwise. In between the inlet and outlet sections are control valve sections--two sections for a basic loader. Each control valve section has two hoses, and its two hoses go to opposite sides of the same cylinder(s). From the description, it sounds like there is only one hose on end of the SCV assembly, in which case it isn't a power-beyond valve. Most likely, the inlet and outlet hoses run to a manifold block/diverter valve. Markings on manifold blocks aren't always obvious, but with most hook-ups, the diverter valve should be in the auxiliary position and the high-pressure and return ports connected to the SCV inlet and outlet respectively. You can probably get the correct inlet and outlet hose connections from your friend whose unit is working. The hose connection should be correct with those inlet and outlet connections and as long as each pair of control valve hoses go to opposite sides of the same cylinder. It doesn't really make any difference which control valve hose goes to which side of a cylinder. If the hoses are reversed, it just reverses the direction the cylinder moves with respect to the valve handle or joystick. It makes sense to me to verify that the tractor has an open centred system, determine if it's a power-beyond valve and whether the loader SCV outlet feeds the 3ph and finally that the hose connections are OK and then go from there..

Subtract $20.00 per hour was what I was told by the dealership where I had purchased my tractor when I asked about trading towards another model while it was in the shop under warranty covered repair work last season. At the time it had 60 hrs on the clock and was about 10 weeks old.

I guess the SCV thing is my doing. I grabbed on to the term as I've heard it used to refer to a set of inlet, outlet and control valve sections that make up a control unit and any operating linkage. I suppose it's more clear to say 'SCV assembly,' which is usually how I heard it. It is an awkward thing to name since it is a collection of things rather than a unit.

I wouldn't worry too much--it's done now. The engine probably will work fine over a normal life span. It may burn a little more oil than normal.

I am looking at a b1700 from a local dealer. This rig has a loader and a backhoe. I am unsure of the year but it has only about 150 hrs on it and is pretty darn close to new condition. Its 4wd with turf tires. what would be a fair price for a b1700 tractor be. Also does anyone have any specifications or literiture on this model.

One additional comment. I don't know what your valves look like but I frequently rebuild a bank of 5 spool valves with spacer blocks between the valve bodies and an inlet and outlet section. There are three threaded rods (used as tie rods) that pass end to end thru the entire assembly and have a lock washer and nut on each end. Because of the O rings and mylar spacers that my assembly uses, I have to be very careful to torque the whole assembly to specifications. Even bought another torque wrench because I didn't have one that would work for inch pounds of torque. Just something for you to consider.

You might try contacting the manufacturer Country Home Products in Vergennes, VT. They have a 30 money back Guarantee. I know a few of them do come back (not often). I'd try asking what they do with the returned ones. They can't legally sell them as new. I know a couple of locals have picked up cheap ones, but it may be the kind of thing where you have to be in the right place at the right time.

I work with my father at my father's farm. We have about 400 acres of land. About 300 acres are cultivated, rest are under reclamation. Infact these shall be cultivated for first time ever. The problem with our lands is high salinity.
For almost all of these 3 years MF 240 has been used in 60 of these 100 acres for land leveling with rear blade. And it had only 2 implements one rear blade and a 9 tine cultivator. Now it has a rotavatoras well.

I was just informed by my dealer that John Deere has authorized him to replace all possible hydraulic components in the trans and wheels Totaling $4000+ of parts to ensure no damaged components and will honor the warrantee past two years for any related troubles.

40 HP is actually quite a lot of tractor. I have a JD 950, 27 PTO HP. It will drive my 6' brush hog thru grass up to a foot or foot and a half with no problem. Higher than that I just have to slow down a little. It has a loader and box scraper that handles dirt quite well. Unless you have a lot of acreage, you may want to consider something slightly smaller. However, you may already know this and have already determined what is right for you. Anyway, my 2 cents worth.

Actually, I decided not to sell it. I'd had a line on an old ford 8N with a loader. Was thinking of selling the 790, buying the 8N and banking the difference. Thinking more about it I realized the old Ford couldn't do what the JD can. It's a nice little unit. I have no complaints(see my post on the battery thread). Your post says SE Ct. I'm in Southern RI. I bought mine from Howard Johnsons in Wakefield. Real good folks. I can recommend them.
