I have a 4300 with 180 hours and have been experincing this of late. No idea of the cause and have not investigated it with the dealer as yet.

Doug,

When you say you are having trouble getting parts,
do you mean Yanmar parts in general or do you
mean getting parts from Craftons?

Don't count me in on your list of "everyone thinks a backblade is the way to go"! I'll admit it is better than a shovel, or a walk behind snow blower. It is the cheapest, and you can get by. But, the way to enjoy snow plowing is with a front blade, and the option to be able to quickly switch to the loader to bucket the snow away if drifting is a problem, or the snow gets too deep along the edge of the drive. Backing up to clear snow, or driving over the snow to hook it with a back blade is NOT my idea of enjoyable. I've been clearing snow for nearly 40 years on a 700' gravel drive, and enjoying it for the last 35.

Dealer has now replaced the power steering unit after ordering the wrong part. Pressures are now fine but steering still grabs and loses power. They are working with the factory and say that they have to disassemble the whole hydro system to find what is wrong.

They did bring me a 445 with a 60" deck to mow with until the 4100 is repaired.

No problem. The blades on the rear-discharge mowers are supposedly high-lift, which should help pull up the grass that has been tracked down by the front and rear tires. The higher blade-tip speed makes for better lift.

All,I'm looking for a 3 pt rotary tiller for by B7100. I don't know how wide it can be for this tractor. I was hoping that a 42 to 48 inch model would work.I would appreciate info about brands and how well these things chew through sod.Also, any one have a line on a slightly used tiller?Thanks,<br>Bill

My Massey Ferguson MF 240 is now more than 3 and a half years old and it has been running for more than 5000 hours with only minor giltches. It came with useless brakes, new ones still do I had to pay extra money to the dealer to fix it. It also came with too hard seat, that problem has been fixed in both new ones and in mine too but not for free.<br>

Nels, there is no feul pump, and probably little need for one either, IF everything is as it should be. I would bet the culprit is one of only two possibilities, 1) you have a little obstruction in the fuel system somewhere (lines, tank, filter) which is restricting flow, or 2) the vented cap is no longer venting, this is causing vacuum in the tank and slowing flow, causing the vapour lock. The main advantage of HST is almost continuously variable ground speed that is independent of engine rpm plus little need for clutching or shifting. An HST is a big advantage when doing a lot of slow stop and go and backward and forward is required such as in loader work. HST usually has higher maintenance costs than gears, and they have more power loss. However, most compacts have more traction than power problems, so the extra power loss of HST's may not be that important. I've got a 3x4 gear TX. The 3 gears in each range plus the reverse are synchromesh, so I don't have a lot of trouble going back and forth, and I sort of like my gears. Even so, I have to use gears to adjust ground speed if I'm running PTO RPM. With 12 forward and four reverses, there still are times when one gear is too slow and the next is too fast. In addition, the ranges are not synchromesh, and I have to stop the tractor before shifting ranges. If I'm doing loader work on a hill, I have to hold the tractor with one foot on the brakes, and the other on the clutch while waiting for the loader to dump. The fairly low engine RPM and TX range that is good for loader work does not dump the bucket very fast unless RPM's are increased with the hand throttle. I suppose I could shift into neutral and use the foot throttle, but that�s sort of a pain. Sometimes, I'd like to go very slow into a pile with the loader, but I don't have a creeper option on the TX so I can't go real slow without running very low RPM's. I wouldn't have these minor aggravations with an HST, but there probably are other aggravations that go with HST. Plus, I could afford the extra power an HST takes. I'm sometimes out of traction, but I can't remember being out of power. Even so, I do sort of like my gears. Would a HST be worth it to me? Don't know. I bought the tractor used. It was the right tractor at the right time and place, and it still is.

Jan, what do you intend to do with that tractor? Is an automatic transmission in your car or pickup worth the extra cost? If all you're going to do is run long periods of time at constant speed; i.e., plowing or mowing big fields or open areas, I probably wouldn't want the HST. However, if you're going to do a lot of maneuvering, turning, changing speeds, changing direction - forward and backwards, then the HST is a real time and energy saver. And that's not to mention the added safety of having more precise control all the time, easier for new operators to learn and use, etc. As you might guess, I have HST on my tractor and wouldn't be without it, although I probably have more hours experience on bigger tractors with straight gears. There's a time and place for both.

Try you local NAPA parts store if you have one close by. They stock some filters to fit farm tractors, including JD compacts (Yanmar).

I'm guessing around 100 lbs., but potential pressures in the return line would depend on how the system is plumbed. My 3ph is downstream from the auxiliary system. The return (power beyond) line from anything run from the aux system could see anything up to the system relief valve pressure if the 3ph is used. A system where the return line goes directly to the sump would not have this potential problem. A test for the plumbing in a power beyond system is to see if the 3ph works while operating the loader. If the 3ph doesn't work, then the system is plumbed like mine. With mine, there would be potential for exploding most filters if the 3ph was accidentally bumped into lift position.

I've never heard of it....which doesn't mean much, since I don't follow JD in any special way. If there was a recall, then I might not have heard about it. I guess what I'm saying is that talk of an axle problem isn't casual scuttlebutt on the 755 - or for that matter on any tractor that I know about. Oh, one hears of the occasional front axle failure on all of the 4wd tractors, but from how you describe it, I am thinking that yours was a rear axle. That is even odder, as rear tractor axles are monstrously overbuilt.
My gut feeling is that you are right, and this was a defective part - which happens sometimes. It would be hard to imagine what kind of abuse you could dish out which would result in a rear axle failure. Maybe you could talk to the JD dealer or Zone Rep. and make that very argument: That the uncommonness of rear axle failures supports the idea that your part was defective.
For what it's worth, I think that the price is high but not too bad.....and I hope that you don't let an oddball failure get you discouraged about the tractor.

Well, tractor parts can be a problem for anymake. I'm still unable to get a governor control rod for my JD530....so not surprised you are having trouble with seals. Have you had any luck the Yanmar dealer (Len) who posts on this forum? What about the two Yanmar clubs on Yahoo? There are lots of Yanmar dealers on those sites. To the best of my knowledge, the YM3110D was the greymarket version of the popular US and worldwide model YM336D. That one had several upgrades to the front end seals during its model life, and when I checked last year they were all available.....you may have to try one of those other dealers.

Look under the Dealers section, under Indiana dealers, for this dealer. Lowe's Tractor & Equipment, Inc. It has been a long time since I have been there. They used to have a lot of old compact tractors & parts.
