I've been cleaning a 1/4 mile of drive w/ a rear blade for 15 years various blades, various tractors. no problem, garvel or pavement. the biggest trick is between the seat & the steering wheel. the operator needs to be careful how aggressive he/she sets the pitch of the blade. if you tip the blade forward it will tend to "drag scrape" as opposed to tipping the blade back which will "dig in" more when you drive forward. I have sold over 1000 blades and no one has complained about their drive getting ripped up once they get accustomed to using a blade. of course the first snows of October & November when the ground is still warm are the toughest to tackle

Hi Rich,
the older L-series tractors were very dependent on glow plugs for cold start.
a good indication if the gp's are work is when you preheat the indicator coil in the dash will glow red. the longer you preheat, the hotter they get. w/ a good battery, it should glow red in less than 20 sec. if it takes longer, it could mean a bad glow plug or two. If the owner has been using ether (start fluid), By all means, STAY AWAY from this tractor. KUbota's & ether are not a good mix. Jim

I also have a couple of walnut trees. I use a "Estate Rake" that I bought at Quality Farm & Fleet. ($300) It's looks like a minature hayrake but is only 48" wide. I pull it with my riding mower and it puts the walnuts in a windrow. Then I nailed tarp to a 2x4 with a rope hooked to the rider and just push them on to the tarp with a garden rake as my 8 yr old drives. It does pick up some thatch from the lawn but seems to work well otherwise. It is the same process I use on the lawn when it grows faster than I can keep it mowed. Beats all the dead spots in the grass.

I have a small electric Karcher that works well for my needs. I asked the mechanic at the JD dealer about washing it down with a power washer and he said it was fine EXCEPT:
Make sure engine is off if you plan on washing the engine. He said he'd seen rods bent from the smallest amount of water getting through the air cleaner, and indiscriminate use of a power washer can force the water into places it should not go.
He also advised that I re-grease all of the Zirk fittings since the power washer will also displace the grease and start rusting things.

The Yanmar 165D was imported in the US during the years 1980 to 1986. I assume that it is similar to the 155D which was produced prior to this and which is reputed to be a pretty solid little tractor. The 165D is listed at 1230 lbs. These tractors have a Catagory 1 three point hitch. I don't know the capacity of the hitch, but Yanmar tractors tended to have less capacity than other makes of tractors having the same horsepower rating. I think the 155D had a three point rating of about 625 lbs. Many of the 155Ds use an auxiliary hydraulic pump for a loader as using the tractor's hydraulics result in rather slow action. These are generally well regarded small tractors, particularly the engines. They are, however, somewhat loud and do have a thermosiphon cooling system rather than a water pump. They are used successfully in some rather hot areas, however. The Yanmar 169D has a "semi-automatic" transmission called a "powershift" transmission that owners seem to like a lot and is reportedly quite robust. Since nothing was mentioned about the transmission, I am guessing that the 165D has the manual transmission with 6 forward and two reverse speeds.

I would say that $5400 US for a 165D in reasonable shape with a loader is not out of line. My 155D is supposedly worth around $3500US and with a loader would be worth at least $1000US more. I have seen Yanmar 155Ds advertise for $5000US to $5500US and some Yanmar 169Ds were on a local tractor lot listed at $5995. Prices seem on used Yanmars seem to vary by parts of the country with the lowest prices being in the South and the highest here in the Pacific Northwest.

The local John Deere dealer still handles parts for Yanmar tractors that were imported (but not for grey market yanmars such as the YM1300 and YM1500, which are not too different from the 165). With a few exceptions, parts are readily available for for Yanmar tractors (for grey market models, parts are available on-line through a few dealers who specialize in them). You can find dealers (at least in the US) who handle Yanmar tractor parts by going to the Yanmar web site and somewhere on there is a map that you click on your area and it will give you dealers within that area (sorry to not give you the URL).

I am looking at a case 648 with a loader and a backhoe. it is a 48 " all hydraulic loader, the backhoe (model D100) has a digging depth of 6', it is hydrostatic 2 wheel drive. it is need of a 18HP engine (engine is bad) The back hoe is is excellent shape (previous owner purchased new and dug graves with it) it is connected using 4 bolts, if the unit is bad it would not take much work to adapt to a compact tractor or skid loader.<br>what would be a fair price for a unit like this? any one have experience with units like this?

I'm guessing this is a riding mower with a gas engine and a battery/coil/breaker ignition system. If so, the fuse may be in the primary ignition coil winding circuit. A loss of resistance in the circuit would blow the fuse. In these type systems, current flows when the ignition switch and breaker points are closed. The primary coil circuit condition should be the same when the engine is just turned on and at shutdown. In a static engine, the breakers are most likely closed. The only difference in the circuit between a static and a running engine is that the breakers may be continuously closed. If the fuse blows only at shutdown, a heat or vibration sensitive component may be present. The ignition coil itself is a candidate. However, all this is speculation, since we don't know what kind of ignition system it is or what the fuse does.

I have heard that rumor that Kioti used old Kubota tooling on this and other message boards. I have no personal knowledge as to its truthfulness. I have also heard (on the same places) that it is perpetuated mainly by Kioti sales persons.
For arguements sake lets say it is true....Does that make it a Kubota? No. Why not. There is alot more to any item than the machinery used to manufacture it. I work for a machine tool distributor for a living and can assure you that just because to places use the same machinery there work may be vastly different. Different procedures/processes, different tolerences, and different raw material suppliers or raw material quality levels just to name a few. This is even IF they are trying to make the same parts. (ANOTHER BIG IF)
In alot of companies there are differences in facility to facility. (Isn't Firestone trying to blame their woes on one plant?) I have assisted customers with moving equipment from one facility to another only to turn around and move it back later because their customer demanded it.
All that would be known for certain is if Kioti did buy Kubota old tooling is that they bought some used machinery and that's done everyday by companies.

Now I am worried. I changed the fluids on my Kubota L4310 and had no shavings at all after 50 hours. Either I have a precision machine or I am in trouble!
