Thanks for starting this thread KT, and Dennis for maintaining the site for so many years.

Honestly, it's been so many years that I don't recall exactly when I joined. I'm thinking it was back in the 90s based upon my first compact tractor and research I did to sort out the brand differences. 1992 was the year that we moved to our current location, finally aquiring a bit more land, so that date could be close. Either way, it's always been a pleasure interacting with people on this site.

I retired in 2006, took the summer off, then accepted a position offered to me the day I left the utility business (I was not ready to jump back in that quickly). As a young man, my family had me working from 13 years old, much of that was my summer vacation. Not forced labor, but a good opportunity for me to learn a work ethic at an early age. So I had a retirement summer and it was great! The new job began in January 2007 and was a perfect fit for me. I found myself working from a home office and traveling around the state training for the one-call center. It was supposed to be part time, but during the busy season the work called for sometimes 80 hours a week. The company recognized the situation and placed me on full-time ie more $$.

That career ended in 2015. I suffered a heart attack in 2013 which prompted me to have a serious talk with myself about reducing stress and actually living the life I had been working so hard to have.

But true to form, I gradually over volunteered myself and ended up with another attack last December. Fortunately all is OK, but it did force me to take another look at my life and slow down a bit. The political aspect is the biggest stressor, so I've made the commitment to not run for office again once my term expires. The fire department is more my focus now, I'm treasurer and an active first responder. I was heavily involved with the church but have recently backed away from duties within. Unfortunately, some bishops feel the need to have political views preached in the churches they control. I don't go there to listen to that.

The wife will most likely retire in the fall. So again, life will change. As it stands, I do most everything at home, inside and out. If she retires it will allow me to focus more on the external property needs.

We are avid boaters and campers. I'm currently restoring a 40 year old cutter rig sailboat. The motorhome is an oldie, I've spent many hours and left blood all over that one too. Sometimes I wish the powerboat was back in her slip. Lake Ontario levels are unreliable at best now that plan 2014 is in effect.

In 2018 I traveled alone to Florida twice in order to assist my 92 year old uncle. He passed away a month after I left the state the first time, so back I went. He was a WWII vet whom served in the South Pacific. His home in Miami was a mess between his housekeeping and the local's stealing. I saved what I could, including his medals and his and his father in law's uniforms. One lady whom volunteered for the veterans helped herself to a good chunk of his money. We reported it, but Florida is so full of elder abuse and theft that it pretty much goes unpunished. Much of my family is or has been living in Florida for some time. Honestly, I really do like it there.

So that is about it for me, except for one thing. My picture is a 1992 Springer which I sold a number of years ago. I really miss an occasional ride, so this past winter, at an auction, I "accidentally" picked up an old 1982 Low Rider. Life is cyclical.

Thanks so much for the ideas.

I do not have a old steel bed frame now, I do have a Pallet. I have only one Tractor and 3 acres to work on.

At this point I think I will tackle the most egregious depressions that whiplash me when I hit them.

While I live with my spouse and 20 something daughter they do not help me with any outdoor project whether not there is food or beer :-( So I am on my own.

I think I will just dump these low spots and and back blade with the bucket or reverse the grader blade. And then hand rake.

Then I will have to see how much juice is left in this old battery as to whether I will do broader leveling efforts with the drags you folks recommend.

What do think of the drag I found on YT? Is it worth making?

I guess you mean the Glow Plug Light does not come on, but the glow plugs do heat up or else it would not start.

The Service "ABCDEFGH" I guess, as I do not have this tractor refers to Service item "A" thru "H" in your manual. This is probably a hour meter based alert say every 350 hours.

Check your manual for how to reset the Maintenance alert.

But I doubt being lax in performing maintenance would cause the Kubota to say hey that is enough I am not going anywhere until you clean my fluids :-).

I have a 2004 Kubota 4330 with the GST transmission. On occasion it will move but most of the time when I turn the key on to allow the glow plugs to turn on, the dash indicates "service inspect ABCDEFGH". The glow plugs do not come on but the tractor will start. Once started, the tractor will not go into any gear and move. On occasion, cycling the key will clear the service inspect message and the tractor will function as it should. The hydraulics seem to work as they should (loader, 3 point hitch, power steering). The tractor will move when the service inspect message is on and if the transmission ECU is disconnected and the emergency jumper under the seat is connected. I have replaced the battery and changed the hydraulic oil and filters. Still no change. Does anyone have any ideas of what may be causing this issue?? It is intermittent but is more frequent as of lately.<br>

rfkuka,I loaned my Kubota B2610 to my brother and when I picked it up had problem with the mid pto lever not lining up properly. Not enough to be in gear but just a slight amount of pressure on the lever solved it. Thought when you get it home fix and on the way home thought leave it alone...a person who does not know about it will have to hunt and peck to start the tractor...has worked well.

Hello all, thanks for the replies! I was glad to hear from Hardwood in the other "Just for Fun" thread, I think of you and your farm often, hang in there. I am still at NIagara University teaching in my 5th year, lucky to still have job. The University had a ransomware attack earlier this year which shut us down for a couple of days followed by the COVID fiasco. I was used to working online due to my days at IBM so the adjustment required some work but I already had much of my courses online.<br>

Life has been good to me, I feel rejuvenated working around the house to accomplish things for my wife. I got tired of having to "borrow" my 4310 back from my son, so a couple of months ago I bought a New Holland Workmaster 25S with a backhoe which is perfect for me in my 1 acre lawn. It isn't the cadillac that the 4310 was but it's like heaven being able to just hear that little diesel come alive when I need it (which has been quite often lately). <br>

I went to Farm Days in Seneca Falls for the first time last year. It was pouring rain but I managed to find Art White's booth. Unfortunately Art wasn't there but I did ask about him. Murf, Denis - sorry I didn't respond to your comments in 2019 - I commit to checking TP more often. Ken, thanks for thinking about the old gang! I am 20 miles east of Niagara Falls, 10 miles south of Lake Ontario. There are lots of wineries here, 2 within walking distance. Arrow Head Spring Winery has some decent wine. Let me know if you are ever in the area. -Joe

Sounds like you have a crack in the block.

Had a buddy of mine with an old tractor that had a cracked block and he still wanted to run it without spending any more money, but only occasionally.

He drained the coolant and filled the radiator with engine oil, that way the motor was happy for occasional use.

I hear what you are saying.

You could put the loader in position so that all pistons are retracted, turn engine off release pressure in Control, and disconnect the quick connects from the loader, now whatever you drain can be from the tractor only. Measure and put same amount in.

Flaw with that is the last time I did hydro fluid it went allover the place :-( so measuring no so good.

If no one replies I think you could improvise by measuring the oil you drain from an oil change. Then add that amount back.<br>

You could make a Test only dip stick from something like a solid copper wire with electric tape as the stopper.<br>

When you know how long it should be you could buy a universal dipstick at an auto store for under 10 bucks and cut to the right length. But it would only be for measurement as it probably will not fit the one on your tractor.<br>

it is possible 4.3 is with filter 3.6 is without filter. But I would not bank on it.<br>

I was walking the dog down on my driveway, noting how the spots he marks right along the edge are deep green.<br>

I have known for years that snow does gather nitrogen from the atmosphere, and while modest it is been the main source of food for my lawn.<br>

What was surprising to me was I noticed one large area of the lawn was really darker green than all the others.<br>

Was it because it was i the shade? Nope. Different soil or seed? Nope.<br>

I believe the explanation is that Dark Green area is where I blow an enormous amount of snow every winter. Ans since I did not do a Spring Fertilizer treatment it is really noticeable.<br>

Well after getting the starter back in and charging the battery the tractor still did not start. So when all else fails read the manual. Starter safety switch ? one turn of the adjuster and ZOOM it started !!!! And started and started !!! So I pulled in the barn and started changing fluids .

I am reading this having the impression you have not had it long. OK the fluid is full.<br>

I am assuming you just pulled the dip stick or sight gauge on knowing the fluid is full. <br>

If that is all you did it may be full but could have issue with clogged filter or filters or even contaminated hyd oil. <br>

If you are not sure the fluid and filters have been changed recently like last 100 hours or run time change it to begin with. Would say do the same with the engine oil and all filters, air and fuel.<br>

Find out if there is a screen in the tank that needs to be cleaned also. A dealer ship should be willing to tell you. If you buy the filters there have no doubt they will. Matter of fact if you are needing to change the fluids and filters stop they and tell them what you having going on and ask them if not that any thoughts. <br>

If this is not your issue have no idea. <br>

Paul, You were correct that the safety functions were the primary cause of the problem which I hope is resolved. Plan to use the tractor and mower tomorrow to sort of 'lower the weeds'.

My 16 year old grandson has learned, if your pants are on your knife is in them.

When I went to school BOYS all carried a knife. It was a must have tool, still is. At same time a gun rack in a pickup (two wheel drive pickup with factor rims and so forth) your hunting gun was safe in it and if a teacher asked about the gun they normally liked guns.

Sad how times have changed.

As to the Kershaw they make some very fine knifes. Bought an easy open one and did not understand how easy it was and how to carry it safely and that ended my toting it. Still a fine knife.

Handson, you thoughts on hurting your back...that my friend is the reason we bought the ferris as our second ztr. It has full suspension with springs and shocks and larger commercial mower size tires and oh yes a great seat. Not air ride bit my recliner is not as good.

Our Bushog which was their mid level when I last viewed their product line (not aware of a dealer for them near me any longer but pleased with that mower) basic seat, smaller tires all lead to bouncy ride if lawn is not very smooth. The Ferris run at least 50% faster than the Bushog and is much smother ride. Tire size and the pressure means probably the most to the ride. Not seen a ztr that wants the tires pumped very tight.
