I went with the 4400 because of the 4WD -- I'd recommend it, regardless of which you get -- and from other posts I understand the adder for this on the 4300 brings the price almost equal to the 4400.

AM LOOKING INTO A JOHN DEERE 4600 OR 4700. I CAME ACROSS THIS WEB SITE LAST EVENING BY ACCIDENT. HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR SITES LIKE THIS THAT ARE INFORMATIVE ABOUT TRACTORS AND EQUIPMENT LIKE THIS. I AM NOT A FARMER BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION. I HAVE SOME LIGHT FARM TYPE USES IN MIND, BUT FOR THE MOST PART IT WOULD BE MORE OF A UTILITY USE. I bought the same setup (790, R4, Loader) about 6 months ago. I love the tractor, but have to agree the ergonomics could be better. A hydro would be nice, but I could not afford one in another brand that had the same HP as the 790. Also, I feel the gear will probably last longer.

The ym2000 was built in the late 70's. If your buying from a dealer he should know that. The ym240 is the US version of the ym2000. I have an opportunity to purchase a JD 850, 2WD 1980 tractor with 354 hrs. It is currently running on only 1 cylinder but the seller will fix this before selling it to me. This tractor has been stored out in the rain and is not the prettiest around. It comes with a tiller, disc and 2 blades (all pretty rusted)Any thoughts on what it is worth and whether this is a fair price?<br>Thanks is advance!

I'm in S. California (read that rip-off central), and have a quote for a B2910 with LA402 loader for a total of $17,630. This was from a small down dealer about 90 miles from San Diego. So far I have found that the rest of the country gets a much better deal!

I was told by a dealer today that he had a bradco 7500 backhoe he would sell me for 4,950 for my NH1725.<br> I am new at this but I have never heard of this model of bradco but he said it was the same as the woods 7500 which is made by Bradco?<br> Could it be possible maybe I was talking to the wrong person like maybe a janitor or somthing.<br> Also would the woods 7500 be a good hoe for the NH 1725 I am planing on getting the frame attachment but I canot figure what bucket size to go with? I plan on trenching and stump removal and possibly digging out (repairing) ponds. My soil is mostly clay and rock. If you look at John Deere's warranty, it states that it is the responsibility of the customer to get the tractor to the dealer for warranty service. Some dealers will absorb this cost. Some won,t. It would be a good idea to ask your dealer what their policy is before you buy if this is important to you. On an actual safety recall(Product Improvement Program, as Deere calls them) Deere pays to have your unit picked up or for a service call to do the repair. Since the axle is not a safety related recall, technically it is your responsibility as the customer to pay for transport to the dealer, unless they have a different policy. I would have to say that most of the better dealers would have such a policy, at least through the first year of warranty.

It sounds like you're talking about the lock nut (or jam nut) on the tie rod. I would think that your owner's manual would tell how to adjust the toe-in. Without seeing it, I wouldn't know whether the lock nut has backed off or whether the tie rod has backed off and gotten out of adjustment. The way to find out is to park the tractor with the front wheels pointing straight ahead and measure the distance between the beads at the front of the tires, hub level, then do the same at the rear of the tires. On my Kubota the manual calls for the front measurement to be 1 to 5 mm less than the rear measurement. If it isn't, then you need to turn the adjusting sleeve (or tie rod itself - I don't know which the John Deere has) to get the proper adjustment, then tighten that lock nut down.

Actually, I just can't quite imagine the threads being different, but I've seen weirder things happen in manufacturing. And I just can't imagine why the left rear wheel would be a problem and the others not be. So it was just a thought.

I hate to sound like too much of a chick here, but when you say "two hydraulic hoses," do you mean two all together, or two in any particular location? I look at the front axle and on each side (by each of the front tires), there is one little 1/4-3/8" L-shaped metal thing coming off the axle toward the back of the tractor. These have a hose thing attached to each of them that heads up under the hood of the tractor. I assume this is the hydraulic hose, as I can't find anything else that looks like it may be it. I can't find anything in the manual which would label this as a hydraulic hose. I also assume then that there are two total, rather than one. So does that mean it is a bad axle? The tractor was delivered in August of 1999. Thanks again!

PJ, My 7275 has the Woods 417 loader and that unit is different only in design and not function. Hydraulics are hydraulics and there should be only a few things that could be wrong, so if you stay with me we should be able to get you up and running. Page 75 of your 7275 owners manual will show you the correct position of the hydraulic block shut-off plate. You can't accidentally have this in the wrong position because it requires removing and reinstalling a bolt. The shut-off plate MUST be in the "S" position to run your loader, the "O" position is for when NO attachment or implement is connected. Hoses: looking at the hydraulic block you'll see (3) fittings; two to the left marked "T" and "N", one to the lower right marked "P". "T" is for your loader control valve's OUTLET. "N" is for your loader control valve's POWER BEYOND PORT. "P" is for your loader control valve's INLET. Your 3 PT should function if these hoses are connected. If not, try turning your hydraulic control flow knob counter-clockwise (FAST setting) until it stops, your hitch should run fast when you activate the hitch control lever. Turn the knob clockwise to slow its speed. You didn't say if your hitch has the draft control option, if you do, see pages 69, 70, and 71 for proper operation. You also didn't say if you had a with sub-frame backhoe running from your PBY circuit or other rear hydraulically operated implement attached. If you do, then no matter what you do, the hitch will lay idle-it won't work at all because the 3 PT hitch circuit is by-passed. Finally, if someone operated your tractor with the shut-off plate in the wrong position, the chances of having a hydraulic system failure is strong, however, you'll know because your hitch wouldn't be working before you installed the loader. GO SLOW, CHECK YOU CONNECTIONS, and you should be OK. Good Luck, Teddy Joe

Ray, for information on "Bush Hog" brand loaders, click on the link below and check their agricultural equipment. I don't see a QT2240, but they do list a 2246QT. Reckon that's the same or similar one?

There is one more alternative (my personal favorite) which is Kubota's "GST" (Glide Shift Transmission). This unit also gives you clutchless Forward/Reverse and Up/Down shifting. The big advantage of this unit over a Hydro. is that it is still gear drive, over-heat is not an issue, therefore high draw-bar loads, hill climbing, etc. is not a problem. The other advantage is that the hydraulic power is only used for 3pth & steering, prolonging fluid life. Best of luck.

Glen, I didnt try a 4100, but I sure am impressed by how sharp my 790 4WD turns. One thing to think of is if you need to turn sharp in 4WD, mine is not nearly as sharp as in 2WD, but you can use the brakes. If you try eaither out, put it in 4WD and turn the wheel. I mow in 2WD, not a problem making the sharp turns in front of the house.

I looked at both and picked the 790 because it has a contineous live PTO (with the 4WD option), the Kubota didnt. You will really like the live PTO if you use any implements with PTO requirements and you have to stop or change direction. This can be done with out stopping the implement's PTO motion. I have 60 hours on it now and not a single problem.

I use a NH 0W-30 oil from my dealer in Ontario, Canada year around. I've heard that the viscosity of some winter oils actually is higher than typical 10W-30 at operating temperatures.
