Hey Coach,

Our diesel Gator was behaving similarly. I ended up removing the driven clutch in pieces, as I was not able to get it off splined shaft intact. I bought a replacement off ebay and it now runs smoothly through entire speed range. It's been a while, but I think the primary is pretty easy to overhaul, the secondary not so much, especially if badly worn. We have 4 different types of utv's, and keeping them running is just a small part of my job so it's hard to keep them straight. If faces of driven clutch are not parallel, then gear ratio and speed input to trans is changing rapidly. Running with wheels off ground showed the problem for me pretty easily.

If it makes this noise when sitting idling you may have a bad clutch throw out bearing. If it only does this when moving it sounds like you may have a different bearing going out.

If it only makes the noise when turning it could be worn spyder gears or wheel bearings. You could jack the rear up and with engine off and rotate the rear wheels by hand, a tough assignment, to see if you hear bearing noise.

My 2360 makes very little noise in that area when the tranny oil level is correct.

As you trouble shoot this let us know what you find.

Thanks for the reply! It does'nt seem to be a slip clutch issue, it does it with a tiller attachment and also a post auger attachment both with different drive shafts, and both pieces of equipment work without any issues on my dads kubota. I will look into adjusting the pto clutch and see if that helps. I still just cant help but wonder if something like a shifting fork or a pin type something broke in the "PTO engage" system not allowing it to engage all the way or possibly be letting it try to disengage. Any other ides or suggestions are greatly appreciated and respected.Thanks!

Okay, I said melted, may be it didn't actually melt but the motion of the driveshaft / gearbox ground the shear bolt and it coated the gearbox shaft with the residue as the shaft was coming off the shaft. Which Loctite, blue?

How old is the Machine? How long have you owned it?

Any recent work done on it?

Clean thoroughly all areas on tank, fuel lines, carburetor, fuel pump so you can see everything as clear as possible.

I would take it outside and disconnect the spark plug, have someone crank the engine a little while you observe for leaks. Stop cranking and feel all areas for fuel seepage.

The leak is probably very small and why you only smell in garage or in an area with little ventilation.

If it is the carburetor, gaskets could be bad, or needle valve and seat which controls the amount of fuel in the bowl like a toilet. If needle and seat worn out when engine off bowl keeps filling.

You may be able to cover with a cloth rag and push the hose end on metal and it open plug enough to release the pressure. But as has been said prevention is best here.kt

Thanks everyone for the information, it was a weak ground that prevented the light from working. Got that one fixed and added another elsewhere on the tractor.

My sprayer is not a huge sprayer but boy re-plumbing from roller pump to centrifuge pump has been a challenge. The pump I ended up going with is buily by hpro and it has gearbox to speed up the pump using 540 pto. Dummy me told my wife should take no more than half a day and I have spent at least 4 to 6 hours per day on it for three days and yes I will finish it in a couple more..only have the suction hose to hook to the pump and the boom hoses the electric valves. Then do a test run and pray it all works as it should. Have a field of corn that needs spraying.

I went to basics and took the attitude I have no idea what was issue with my sprayer and read beginning with how to select the right pump which also includes how to figure the gpm you need and realize where an issue I had was coming from, way too little gpm to keep chemicals mixed in my tank. The roller pump I had was not even large enough to just keep the chemicals mixed. Have a 500 gallon tank and I needed from 25 to 50 gallons gpm just to keep the chemicals mixed. Way undersize for that and could not find roller pump for 540 rpms to handle the need. Also was told roller pumps will not hold up to wettable power chemicals if not mixed properly. Look forward to having it up and running at is should. kt

If there are a top shop they will be glad you share this with them and will try to make it right. They will also try to find the problem on their end and fix that. If they are not worthy of the reputation you say they have they will play games or excuses with you. I would tell you share either but do so carefully so not to cause yourself an issue. kt

Watch for wire being picked up and it cutting the bottom seal out of the gear box. Another way it can happen if you get the it way over filled and the vent is not able to allow it to seep out when it heats up can damage the seal.

Now the plate..it slips onto the spline shaft if I am right, correct? First I think you must get it where you can work on it and with the cutter being secure. If you must flip it upside down. Take a good penetrating oil and spray it and keep it wet for a day or two if possible. You may want to take a hammer and keep taping the sleeve that is on the gearbox shaft to help break the rust that is hold it on the spline. If you have torch you would heat the thick sleeve on the stump jumper that is sled on the gear box spline shaft.
You might be able to design a simple puller for this with say a piece of channel iron and large bolts. But heat can be a wonderful helper. kt

When using an auger or tiller attachment the PTO slips or comes to a stop. The clutch seems to operate and function fine driving but only when under load it does this. When my dad had the tractor he was brush hogging one day and said he raked or ground the PTO engagement real bad one day on accident and that is when this problem started occuring. Could this be a clutch issue or something in the gearbox broken or sheared? I am very new to owning a tractor, so any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
