Near Reno, NV - $5000 takes 1978 Kubota B6100 compact tractor, 695hrs very good condition, 12HP 3 cyl diesel, 4WD w/ 3 forward & reverse each in HI/LO gear box, 3pt hitch and rear PTO. Has Kubota PTO 3pt rototiller w/ new tines and tractor recently serviced.

Jim, I think in your case chains will be a big help. I live in central Indiana so our snow is not that bad. We do get some big drifts from across the county road at the entrance to our place and I seem to get through it OK, albeit a little slower. My new B2910 that was delivered yesterday has the R4 tires so I will definatly have more bite this winter. I will be interested in seeing how they do.

Thomas, if you have a reasonable supply (even tanks) nearby just put the first section down (with a sand point on it) and then hook a pump to it, pump water down-hole for a few minutes which will erode the soil below the point, then push down with the loader or hoe and start the process all over again. We do this regularly, if it is not clay or rock, 25' should not take very long at all, if it is sand, I would say you should be able to do it in an hour or so, provided you have enough water. Besides this way the water does the hard work for you....Best of luck.

Not sure any of us ever gave you any solid info about this tractor so not sure we answered your question. I did find that Lowes Tractor, a grey market dealer has recently imported a 3110 and I have attached a link showing the price should you wish to contact them.

Tom, I traded even on the axle problem with a 4400. My '99 was six months old, with 150 hrs. on it. I don't know what dollar value Deere allowed the dealer for the axle replacement, but that enabled them to sell the old unit to someone who didn't care about the scuffing at a reduced price, and still satisfy me. Chris has a good point about "shopping" a trade, and Roger is right about Deere trying to get out of the mess they got themselves into...maybe another dealer will give you better results. I'm sure, in my case at least, it was the dealer along with Deere who was responsible for the even trade. Good luck.

The exchange rate is not quite that good, however, I have discovered that you can purchase many US manufactured items in Canada for less than could be purchased locally. This has been for me so far primarily electronics as the shipping is not prohibitive. I have attached a link to the Bank of Canada for a currency exchange rate calculator, which by the way is about 67% now.

If you search the archives, you should find several hours of reading and come up with most information you need. You should pay particular attention to the use of all types of equipment on gravel. <br>

Regarding 3ph blowers: There are large welding shops that make 3ph blowers in many areas. These shops serve local markets and probably do not have web sites. However, I believe some smaller companies can be found on equipment-net type sites. My dealer located a 'no name' blower for me as part of my original purchase package. I think a good dealer should be able to recommend decent alternatives to their own, or 'name-brand' items. <br>

My own 'no-name' blower has done the job for me (actually it's called a 'Meteor'). I believe all machined and hydraulic parts on the blower are OEM or mass-market items so getting parts for this type of equipment shouldn't be a problem, and the initial price was pretty good.<br>

Glen, this board has a thread called "Horse Power to Horse Power" containing a technical discussion way over my head on a number of things, including direct and indirect injection. My take on the discussion is that direct is slightly more efficient/powerful, but indirect is quieter. You can find the thread under the 30 day index. I think it began around August 8. I'll try to post a link to the thread with this message--and hopefully will work. BTW, I also chose the 4100 because the others seemed too heavy and too big for the majority of my jobs. And if someone offered to give me a tiller, I'd accept. No questions asked. Best of luck. JonB

I purchased a JD 790 last spring and absolutely love it! I've got the JD 60" Belly Mover and the 70 Loader. I'm able to "mow around the house" and get a clean 1/2" cut, with no ruts from my turf tires. I also mow 12 acres of fields on a regular basis with out any problems. Good mowing in the tight spots is purely a function of speed..... I've got the 4wd, dual range / 4 speed transmission. The loader works fine for lightweight work. I don't have anything in the tires (e.g. saline solution) for weight, so heavy jobs with the loader are quite difficult...... the turf tires slip alot. I need more weight, better tires, or chains for the heavy work.

I paid $15,900 for this 790, which had 40 hours on it when I bought it. Based on my research last spring, I think I got a pretty fair deal.

Kens, how could anyone be tired of tractor talk!! I have never tried to pull a lot of stumps, it isn't necessary in a pine forest....Well, I have pulled a few, but the way I do it is to put a chain on them and get a pull going with the front end loader or the three point hitch, and then attack the roots with my chain saw with a scrap "dirt bar and chain" on it. Even so it is a hard job. The guys who do it a lot get a backhoe. That works best, but a small one (like my small three point backhoe) is very slow at stumps. I have seen guys who jerk them out with a larger farm tractor...50+ HP and 8000+ lbs, but it sure is hard on the tractor and the tires.
For work like that, I always recommend that you hire it done. Even a small tracked machine will do this job without much effort. Then you can use your tractor for the enjoyable work. Don't worry, there will be plenty.
Fascinating about your having grown up in the Czech Republic... I won't preach on the virtues of Zetors to you then. But if I was looking to buy a farm utility tractor today I would start by looking at the JD 3010/3020 or 4010/4020 and then look at the imported Zetors from the last 20 years.
Any implement built since about the mid 1950s will interchange on any tractor. The mounting system (the three point or 3pt) is standard everywhere, and -with some rare exceptions- so is the PTO connection. Post hole diggers with an auger are just as universal as the rest of the stuff and run from a low of about $400+ dollars up to close to a thousand. Even 3pt backhoes interchange freely. It helps to think of the tractor as your mobile tool platform, and the implements as the tools. The most useful single tool is probably the front end loader.

Barry, click on the link below to look it up at tractortips.com, but I know nothing of their source of information or accuracy. They say it's a 27.36 PTO hp with a 105 cu. in. 3-cylinder Yanmar engine. If that's true, I'd say it would probably handle the 7' mower, but it might be marginal.

glenn, i'm in a similar situation. got a quote for a 790 and wanted to get the "smaller" ag tires so i could get chains on them without taking the fenders off. when i went to order, the dealer told me that JD no longer offers the tractor with the "smaller" ag tires (evidently not enough people were ordering them). anyone know if this is the case? we live in the hills of western maryland and i have trouble getting my old IH up (and down) the lane plowing snow without chains. dealer said i could run chains on just the front with no damage to the driveline. would appreciate any knowledge about this as i know about nothing about these 4wd compacts. if anyone is running a 790 with a front mount 59 inch JD blower would appreciate any comments.

Fireman (personally I'm a retired cop), whew, you're asking for a lot of information. I've used a lot of tractors, but don't have a backhoe, but I'll try to give you a little of nothing more than personal opinion. First, the B7500 will do the job, but the bigger the tractor, the faster you'll get the job done. I'd suggest you at least look at the B21 or L35 (specifically made for the backhoe), or the B2710 (which I have, after having had a B7100 for 4 years) or the B2910. Secondly, there are a lot of 3-point backhoes and people who like them, but if you research the messages on this , I think you'll find that a sub-frame mounted hoe is far safer and more durable. Thirdly, for tires, get the R4 (industrial) tires; more durable and better traction than turf tires. Fourth, engine block heater? Is it going to be stored indoors or out? I have no use for one in Texas, but might be a good idea in Ohio. Fifth, for a trailer, first choice would be the 16' tandem axle with brakes for safety, durability, etc., although it is possible to use a smaller one. Sixth, for implements; if you're going to be moving much dirt, smoothing, leveling, etc., I think a box blade is indispensable. If you're going to prepare seed beds, the tiller is great. I also use a 3-point finish mower on the yard, a brush hog elsewhere for mowing, a box blade, a moldboard plow, a double buster, and a cultivator. No way would I try to have a 9K sq. ft. vegetable garden without my tiller. If you have a backhoe, then you can dig the holes for planting trees, shrubs, etc. without a post hole auger, but if you're going to do much fence building, they're a fine implement. I don't have one, but have a cousin and a neighbor who do, so I know where to get one when I need it. One thing I should have included in my previous message was that the distance between the lower hooks of the Land Pride quick hitch (27 1/2 inches) was of primary importance. I could not have used a quick hitch with a distance of 20 inches with my John Deere Model 413 shredder or my Bush Hog 4 foot finish mower. The pins on both require a space of at least 27 inches. I really felt that my only choice was the Land Pride hitch, even though it was much more expensive.

I use the ball on the drawbar too. I have a solid drawbar mounted to the fram with a little 1 7/8 ball for my small trailer and then have a 2 5/16 ball on my 3 pt. drawbar for my big flatbed and my horse trailer. Just back up and raise it and go. Works nice. I have a little clamp I got at Kubota to keep the 3 pt. drawbar from rotating.

Run it open. Diesels need the heat and low rpms for extended times can hurt. The fuel will not burn completely and was down the cylinder walls. This is why I also have an idle controller in my diesel pickup so when I idle for more than ten minutes say with the A/C or heat on I bump my idle up to 1200rpm from 680 normal idle to help combustion and maintain engine life.

My local TSC does not carry King Kutter yet. I hope they do. I have a 5 foot rotary, 5 foot 3 pt finish and a 3 pt dirt scoop (parked that when I got my loader) all from King Kutter and bought a Quality Farm and Fleet. Good prices and I have not broken anything yet. Rotary is 4 years old, finish is 1 year and scoop is 3 years. I saved a lot of money over major brands and so far it has been a good idea. Attached is picture with bush hog on my B2150. New B2910 coming today!!!
