Good day all,,, I have an HPX, it was leaking some gas out of the carb, however it was still running well. I took it apart to check the float and needle and all looked good, I put it back together an now it has no power.. the gaskets were shot and the person before me put some of the self make blue gasket material all over within.. what would cause this lack of power? it runs ok at slow speed on a flat surface, when I lay into it or try to climb a slight hill it boggs right down and will actually stall. I have new jets and needle valve and plan on doing that this weekend. but would rather get it done complete while I have it out.<br>

Ken ,Mine is a 2001 Long Trac and yes it has that D124 engine/8 speed tranny.high and low..I also own a Massey-Ferguson gas and it is hard on fuel,and I own a `1956 F-40 Ferguson gas tractor/with orginal power steeing, this tractor was the last tractor Harry Ferguson made and it is the same tractor as the M-F 50 and The Massey-Harris 50 ,all 3 are the same on everything except the front of the grill.The F-40,the color of the F-40 is a beige color with a red grill and red bumper/with 6 speed tranny,high and low. is also cheap on fuel.
Ferguson invented the 3 point hitch and the live PTO and clutch,not many know this..
If you have time read the story of Harry Ferguson,it is very good reading.

I really think the D115 was the 360 tractor that Long Made.

Do you have a wiring diagram and are you using a meter to check the current as it enters and leaves a switch or any other connection? If not think you will be fortunate to find the issue unless it is simple broke wire or blown fuse.

It could be a switch, relay, the gauges or sending units is defective or ground is loose, both hard to find with out those two items. I wasted time and money and did have meter and have years of experience with electrical but not on that tractor. Shop would have saved me money. kt

The ability to spread out the width of tractors for various reason but for row spacing is well known. Tractor manufacturers know this is done often and unless you use some kind of aftermarket spacers to get width wider they they made the axle and rims for or you are really using the tractor for something really odd or beyond reasonable use think you will be fine. I assume you would be doing so for stability and it can be amazing how a little width gives more stability.

One word of caution, if you have never done this be sure when changing the rear wheels do NOT sit a single jack under the rear end to jack it up. The front axle pivots and can be enough the tractor can be unstable and even come off the jack allowing tractor to get damage and you or anyone helping you. Be safe. kt

I am assuming your term "Rearing", means backing up, I just hadn't heard that term before. If you haven't checked the fluid level in the rear differential, I would soon.
If that looks ok I would suspect a rear brake is dragging.

I am not sure how much fescue is used in my area the most popular grass is centipede for the home lawn due to it's low maintenance. We have I think zenith zoysia which is a bladed grass and not the zoysia used in cooler climates. It can be mowed with rotary mower and planted from seed. Wile we were clearing our land we planted I think red fescue on the first part ready and if it lived one summer that was it and it just died out.

Talked with the rep for the company who developed our type of zoysia and he said use rye but not fescue. Bermuda is used here a good bit where subject to wear but it needs to be mowed about ever four days here is my understanding while our zoysia normally ever week if fine unless lots of rain while centipede is once a week to once every two weeks.

I may be missed what is being talked about here but in my part of the world timber and pulpwood are both major income sources. Planned planting and growing of pines is very major here with large land owners and especially the land owned by the timber companies. Not sure the spacing they use but too close for them to grow to timber and about 10 years old they cut every third row giving room for the other two to grow. (this would only be good for pulpwood or fence post.) Funny how much of this I see not to be sure on this part but think most let those two rows grow for about 10 more years and often harvest ever other row of those and then come back for the third row a few years later. Now hardwoods here are left to reseed them self and are normally clear cut.

Have not notice the use of large skidders here being reduced. kt

If not does it use electricity to shift the transmission in any manner? Would look for blown fuses, cut wires or blown flue link wire. kt

I may be wrong for don't buy a lot of parts but think most if not all brands have taken a good increase the last couple of years. I know batteries have. Could be due to currency value changes. Just a guess.

Anyone know where I can get a rebuilt water pump or where I can send mine to be rebuilt? $223.00 plus shipping seems a little high for a new one. Heard a few say they only get 400 hours before they go. I made it to 600 hours. 1st repair ever needed in the 11 years I've had it.<br>

Had the same issue with my Deere 4115..... found a leaking hydraulic hose fitting bleeding air into the system.

Tightened all the fittings and the problem went away.

I have the same problem and this seems to work - when I first start up the tractor I let it warm up a bit but I also turn the steering wheel end-to-end (all the way left and then all the way right) about 2 or 3 times. This seems to get all the air bubbles out and then the tractor seems to turn better. I notice a big difference in steering when I forget to do this. My thinking is the system gets air into the system when its cold and you just have to work it out before you start out. Works for me!<br>

I think your right where its a valve letting air in versus the pump because turning the wheel (getting the air out) seems to fix the issue each time.

smoke is prob leaking valve seales $6.63 apeice on partspring.com had same issue make sure cups under injectors arnt broken if it still starts hard u might want to have injection pump rebuilt $350

The channels I miss most that Direct had were History 2 that had actual history shows instead of the History channel we get now that is Pawn Stars almost 24/7, the other is the RFD channel. Pawn Stars does have some educational value, but I simply cannot accept their coarse language and calling their father "The Old Man". I don't claim to be a saint, but rough language has no place on TV or radio shows.

It does seem that your main cylinder seal may be leaking, yet it could be that the direction valve isn't in its correct position. I was mowing my field when I went down into a slight dip and I notice that the lift didn't work. What I thought was the main cylinder lift inner seal blew out. This will cause the lift not to raise the implement. I went ahead and order the kit. It had two scrapers and one rubber seal that fit around a piston that fits into the cylinder that is about three inches round and 5 inches long. <br>

It will not come all the way of the cylinder unless you take the complete reservoir off the tractor. You can take it apart which will consist of all those seals that fit into the hydraulic lines that bolt to the sides of the reservoir. I used the old ones. You can order a complete set of seals from harbor freight that is lot cheaper than from anyone else. <br>
<br>
To remove the piston from the cylinder will take a quite a bit of work and time to remove. You will have to remove the back compressor spring on the back of the reservoir this will let you get into the guts of the reservoir. Before you do all this I would check the value stem that controls the up and down of the lift. I found out the this hydraulic fluid has a tendency to collect water from the heat buildup in the system. The stem is made from a metal that easily rust. If there is water buildup in the bottom of the reservoir the block of metal that holds the stem will sit in the water and rust. The stem will gradually stick and will not open or close all the way. If you take off the seat and remove the plate that sits on top of the reservoir you will see that the oil completely covers the mechanical mechanism. <br>

You will need to remove this oil to work on the system. It would have been nice if they installed a drain on the reservoir. I just pumped mine out. You will notice that the draft and lift controls come through the side and operate some levers and springs. The springs make sure that the levers have enough tension against the stem and control levers. <br>
<br>
Before removing anything I would get a camera and take pictures of each part that you remove so that you know how to re-install it. Before removing any parts look down into the control levers to see if it is push up against a piece of metal about the size of a nickel this will be the head of the valve stem that controls the lift of the tractor. <br>
<br>
Mine was stuck inside of the block that lets the oil go through the cylinder. You will notice the springs and the springs fit against the lever and the lever is push against the stem head. There is a spring inside of the block that will push the stem out to let the lift down. Your lever pushes the stem in to raise the unit. The stem is a direction valve that controls which way the oil flows into the cylinder. What happen with me is that I removed everything in the reservoir except the cylinder which can't be removed unless you remove the reservoir from the tractor. <br>

Anyhow, what I'm stating is that my issue was with the stem being stuck in the direction block. I removed all of these parts and placed them on the table. I had to put about ten pounds of air to blow the piston out of the cylinder. You can not remove the piston out of the cylinder because the back of the reservoir will block it. <br>

You can go head and replace the the scraper and rubber seal. I notice that if it took that much pressure to blow it out that it couldn't be bad. A bad seal would let the air bypass and you would hear a hiss. Anyway I had removed all the parts, which took me about 16 hours to remove and repair and replace. If I just removed the direction block that had the stem in it I would have saved 13 hours or more. I remove the direction block, took it apart and notice that the stem was stuck in it. <br>

I really didn't know exactly how it was suppose to look until I check it<br>
out noticed that the stem wouldn't come out. I set it in a vise and took some channel locks and worked it back and forth until it came out. Looking at it I noticed all the rust. I used a 3/8 round brass brush on the direction block and I used 1000 grade emery cloth on the stem. Put it all back together and it works like a charm. <br>

I cleaned the filter and refilled with new oil. I didn't use any new seals or gaskets. Started it up to make sure it had no leaks. Like I said I wished that it had a pipe coming out of the back of the reservoir to drain the fluid. From now on I will place a clear hose into the filler hole and remove the oil to see if it has water in it. <br>

My tractor is a 304 b model and I couldn't find any oil filters. I talked with a man at affordable tractor parts and bought an adapter where I can use an American oil filter instead of paying a high price for a filter that is hard to find. The adapter cost 50 bucks, the Chinese filter cost 23 dollars. No brainer. Hope this helps. Send me your email and I will send you my pictures of the unit.<br>
