The JD weighs a 1,000 more and that is a negative? I don't know the JD but am very pleased with my two Kubotas. Bought one new and the other used.

However if I felt a tractor was abused would avoid it. Remember before buying my first Kubota JD was about first tractor I looked at and found just what I wanted in a used tractor with low hours. Only thing was for such a low amount of hours the tires were cut to pieces and made me nervous about it. Did not like the dealer's attitude as he would only discuss that tractor and no others.

Will each tractor serve your needs? IS one better suited than the other? Such as the transmissions how do they compare, is one synchronized the other not? One of the reasons I bought Kubota over JD was this at least in models I considered at JD was not at all and the Kubota was partly. How about hyd pump capacity and remotes if they will matter to you. Getting on and off the tractor and comfort on it. Are you able to talk to previous owner?

How about the pto, any difference there? Does one offer any advantage in the way you control the pto or the engine rpm for the pto rpm?

Lift arms and stabilizers, how do they compare. For me I do not like chain stabilizers, too much slop in them. Then they can be easier to hook up. Does one have telescoping lift arms to help with hook up and the other not? If so do they work?

How about parts in your area? Dealership for both about same?

If all that comes down to the same, which do your prefer for if you don't like it you will never be pleased with it. Personally I like the Orange very well. Here you see most commercial use to be the Kubota. Of course on the farms it is JD compared to Kubota but that is partly due to JD making tractors with more HP and such for the field.

Have you looked to be sure linkage is connected and no pin has dropped out or a stick or such is not allowing clutch to fully engage? If HST have you checked the fluid? If has both a gear and a ranger shift are both in gear?

To determine the height accurately with limited tools I have used some geometry. I took a framing square and a level. On the framing square I tape a yard stick at a 45 degree angle then tape it to the level. I then use this to sight the top of the tree on the 45 degree line with the level. The distance I am from the tree then is the height of the tree plus the distance from the ground I am holding the level.

I still would look at wiring connects and be sure the grounds are good. One may be trying to feed back through the other (those idiot lights).

I have a 1070 with an electrical problem. A few weeks ago, I tried to start it and nothing happened. Clicked but no startng. I took the battery to the Interstate battery and got a blem. Put it in and the tractor started right up.<br>
Unfortunately the posts didn't fit and I had to return it and get a brand new one. I put the new one in and it started right up. A few days later I drove it up to the woods and it wouldn't start again. Turn the key, the lights on the dash came on...nothing. I walked back and jiggled the ignition and it started up.<br>

Drove it back parked it. Tried to start it a couple days ago...nothing light would come on, wouldn't turn over. I tried jumping it nothing...it was kind of funny when I was jumping it(i had it hooked up correctly) sometimes when I turned on the key, the lights on the dash wouldn't even come on.<br>

I've pulled the battery and am charging it, but just sitting shouldn't discharge a brand new battery. I'm fairly convinced that it is not a battery issue. I'm wondering about the ignition switch. Your help would be greatly appreciated!<br>

I don't know the M5040DT but have a M6800 with a few more hours than you have there. One reason to the number of hours on Kubotas are many are bought by homeowners and thus not a lot of hours. Another point maybe is how much business has been off the last 3 or so years, many machines are sitting idle. However many are bought by commercial people who run them many hours. Think you will find they have a very good life.

Been awhile since I have been on here.Just thought I would let the Steiner enthusiasts know I traded my 430 max in for a Utilimax 428 with 321 hrs..I have mowed the yard and checked it over pretty well and am pleased at the performance and the dump bed.Im not sure how many of these are out there,but any other owners on this board? I love my tractor! I take care of it and it treats me the same. I have over 200 hours and have only had to do regular routine maintenence. I use my tractor, but take care to not exceed any limits. I am building a new barn just for my tractor. Great machine, and I like chasing my brother's Deere.

Have you checked the linkage to be sure there is no trash in it holding preventing the clutch to engage?

I have a F935 that just stopped moving and lost all hydraulics while mowing.It has a Sundstrand Series 15 transmission. It was not losing power it just stopped while going from forward to reverse. The mower was working fine and then just stopped moving. At the same time the steering stopped working and the lift for the deck stopped. Engine runs fine and pto works. Drive shaft is turning the charge pump. I have taken the charge pump out and checked it. When I did a charge pump pressure test it only has about 15lbs. While it was out changed the seal, bearing, o-ring and pin. Inspected pump for wear and damage and everything looks fine. Checked and cleaned charge, implement and steering relief valves. I also changed the filter. I still have no hydro. Like I said everything was working great right up to the time it stopped. I think something come apart in the transmission itself. Any help or Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig<br>
