Glad you got it going. I never had an engine with glow plugs, but I'm sure with an engine designed for them they need to work. A good robust cranking speed does wonders for any engine, especially a diesel.

Ether fluid is not hard on diesels when used in moderation. I used to drive a Perkins diesel in a delivery truck. It was equipped with a HotShot ether delivery system which looked like a small propane bottle. On cold days it took many shots or squirts to get it running.

Now, that said, some tractors I hear have flame-operated heater as described above which I would use caution around.

Next a little pointer, this board has a pretty long history as far as websites go, the thread you responded to for example is nearly 5 years old. If you look in the upper left corner of each post it shows the time and date it was posted.

Hopefully by now you have repaired your tractor. If not, there is a linkage within the drivetrain which has simply stripped threads and pulled apart. I went through the exact same issue. It's a P.I.A. fix, but inexpensive. If you haven't fixed it yet, and need more info, contact me.

Real sorry to hear that, Hardwood my friend, and hope you mend fast.

Some attachments (like my tree spade or snow blower) you lower to the ground, pull three pins, and drive off. To reattach, you back in, and it's sitting exactly where you left it.

Others, like the scraper blade, disconnect, and it falls down and says, "You and who else is gonna hold me in position the next time you need me?" For this type of attachment I build a holder that keeps it in position during and after disconnection so it's a simple one-man job to reconnect.

Acording to the "Tractor Data" website your tractor weighs about 1400 lbs., so being a two wheel drive you probably have a front axle weight of 5-600 lbs. I don't know what the blower weighs but if your three pt, will lift it ok you might want some front weights or a front end loader for safety and to help with steering.

If yours is a diesel then it is likely nearly identical to one an uncle of mine had. He only had it about a year before he passed away. I sold it for my aunt to a local man who still mows a good sized, probably 4-5 acre lot with it. Not too long ago he commented that all he has ever spent is just normal maintenece.

Rarely a problem ith snow (as opposed to ice). If it's higher than the top of the intake, raise the blower, blow a few feet, go forward, lower, blow. If it isn't that high but dense, use max revs and slowest ground speed, and if that's a strain, stop every few secs to let the blower clear itself.

How familliar are you with tractors, mowers, PTO shafts connections etc? I don't want to get too basic if you have experience with them. Some have the familiar button to push on the side of the "U" joint on the tractor shaft, some have a ring that pulls back, some have a ring that you rotate while you slide the "U" joint off. The real old ones had a pin that went thru the "U" joint and the PTO shaft, so lots of ways they can be connected.
Rust and dirt can get bad enough over time to lock things together too. Several generous doses of a penetrating fluid or just plain oil over a couple week period may loosen it. Don't get too agressive with hammers, pry bars, etc., they can help, but too many things you can mess up using the sledge hammer method.
